I didn't know your Dad, but he made you. So I'd say he was pretty good at his job.

Sorry for your loss, EMCE. I lost my mom 6 years ago. Still have subconscious "oh shit, gotta call mom" moments.

so sorry for your loss. that's an awesome rack focus pic. From the looks of it, your dad wasn't participating in the "absent black father" stereotype. based on that alone, I'd say we lost a great man. I've never met you or your father, but I wish you the best as you go through this tough time.

I do appreciate the kind words. It really means a lot to me.

My father passed on 2/1/17. The memorial service was yesterday. I took several days off of work for berevement immediately after his passing...Which was good....Cause it gave me some time to make arrangements, and to cry like a little girl.

I cried a lot, spontaneously Feels bad, man. I think I have the tears under control now, but more are coming. It's a weird feeling...Like there are emotions right below the surface which can be triggered randomly by a thought, or commercial, or even the wind blowing .

EMCE, was it a sudden loss or was it something that you were somewhat able to prepare for?

It was expected. My father had been ill for quite some time. I was his legal guardian , as he was in a nursing home here in DC. A few months the back, the Dr. told me that Dad had < 6 months to live.... That there were things that could be done to buy a couple more months, but would probably result in more pain and recooperation time.

So it was expected... But that makes it no easier. It's just the worst.

Sorry to hear that man. That's gotta be rough, especially if you were close to your father, which it seems like you were.

Cry it out as frequently and as intensely as you want to. It is good for you.

Take care.

Sorry to hear about this.

It's hard to know what to say when someone has lost a parent, or anyone they loved for that matter. At my mom's funeral, I had so many people come up and talk to me and convey their condolences, but I really honestly don't remember any of it because I was still in shock.

Just know, like I'm sure you've heard many people say, that it will get better over time. And soon, the pictures you find of him that you haven't seen in a while, or any pictures of him, will not bring tears, but big smiles.

And that is a really good picture.
