you right, Monday it isI've been planning on taking time off to be in that area during that time, so I've perused the info on it quite a bit[Edited on January 4, 2017 at 12:50 PM. Reason : ]

I have a friend that lives in Nashville. Heading up there the day before to crash at his place for the eclipse. Got some eclipse glasses from work. From what I've heard, Nashville is gonna be fucking crazy. Knowing our luck though, it will be overcast that day .
8/9/2017 3:14:04 PM
^ I'm doing the same thing. My sister lives there, and the Panthers have a preseason game against the Titans on Saturday.
8/9/2017 3:25:41 PM
Where I live in Knoxville will have 99.89% totality. Excited.
8/9/2017 4:14:52 PM
^ you want to go somewhere with full totality. read this description of the difference between partial and full: https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/we-asked-two-eclipse-chasers-what-keeps-them-hooked/I saw a total eclipse when I was a kid in hawaii, it is my most vivid memory. You do not want to miss it

^^^^Maybe if you think really hard and yell a lot, the clouds/rain will go away: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8b9HEIx5J8[Edited on August 9, 2017 at 7:29 PM. Reason : ^^^^]

You definitely want to get as close to the center line as possible. I plan on being in the Lake Murray SC region but I am very nervous clouds could easily ruin these plans.
8/10/2017 11:32:46 AM
Any of you fuckers want to spend a couple grand and stay at a sweet house in downtown Charleston for a few days during the eclipse??
8/10/2017 11:45:56 AM
So is the view in central NC not going to be a big deal?
8/10/2017 12:16:45 PM
I am gonna wing it and try to drive down Monday morning early and hope I can get there in 6 hours. I plan to avoid 95 that should be a shit storm gonna try US1 into central SC away from all the major cities and find a parking lot or field or something. All pending the weather forecast of course.
8/10/2017 1:14:28 PM
So at this point if you don't have lodging in the path would a good strategy be to stay an hour or so away from the center line and drive in for the event?
8/10/2017 3:03:18 PM
Driving out to Deal's Gap early Monday morning for some fun driving roads, and then staying to watch the eclipse
8/10/2017 4:52:31 PM
8/10/2017 10:13:39 PM
^Thankfully I live in the path of totality so I’ll be taking the day off and just lounging with the family
8/10/2017 10:34:08 PM
For those interested in such things, 21 August 2017 = 13.0.4.13.4 in the Mayan Long Count calendar.

basically, the blue line is the bomb. anything outside the gray is shit.

A lot of people tried to turn it into a vacation/event so all the bigger areas especially on the coast would make sense to be booked long in advance. I am gonna target someplace between say Columbia and Sumter out in the sticks. Drop the kid off at school Monday morning then just start driving trying to reach target area if traffic gets all jacked up I will just start taking backroads. My only goal for that day is to get into target area by 2 pm or so then who cares about the drive back. I still assume its gonna be overcast that day though because thats how shit goes haha.
8/11/2017 8:25:54 AM
This is why being in the path of totality is important:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xAuVs9_o9RY&t=7sThis gives you the full feel of what it is like. It doesn't really get much darker at all until totality arrives. When it does the change happens in seconds.
8/11/2017 10:53:21 AM
^awesome video
8/11/2017 11:59:07 AM
I don't get it. Was there an exciting point of that video?
8/11/2017 1:28:10 PM
You realize it's a 360° video that you can pan around, correct?
8/11/2017 1:35:02 PM
yes
8/11/2017 1:43:18 PM
the forecast right now in Columbia and south of Knoxville sucks right now, but they change every dayI have reservations in both places, but I'm going to have to cancel one by friday
8/12/2017 7:10:55 AM
My company's Toyota of Charleston dealership is expecting 1M visitors on that Monday alone so we have to reduce our capacities and etc. because traffic will be INSANE. Can't imagine that many people in ONE city for something.
8/12/2017 6:53:04 PM
forecast here is 100% clear skies -- and the wildfires have cleared for the most part, so the smoke is fadingregarded as the best viewing spot in America
8/13/2017 9:21:19 AM
Some lingering smoke might give an interesting effect.]

8/14/2017 4:34:28 AM
I'll be in Wrightsville for this, I think they're calling for 95% or more coverage. So that'll be cool.
8/14/2017 8:19:39 AM
Everything I have heard has said totality or bust anything less will basically be not much different than a cloud passing by the sun. I have never witnesses one obviously but thats what I have read.
8/14/2017 8:49:43 AM
For anyone going to Nashville -- start Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon at exactly 12:46:12pm and right when Eclipse starts playing should be when totality hits.
8/14/2017 2:34:02 PM
8/14/2017 2:34:32 PM
Does anyone know where to find solar eclipse glasses? I'm going to have a few more guests than I was expecting, and everywhere seems to be sold out of them.
8/14/2017 4:56:01 PM
good q
8/14/2017 6:23:28 PM
I ordered some off amazon hoping they get here when they say they will. I have heard places like Lowes and Walmart carry them as well but I havent checked.
8/15/2017 8:03:33 AM
8/15/2017 10:24:46 AM
Also, if you are in the path of totality -- even if it is cloudy, it will still get super dark. Not as cool, but still, pretty cool.
8/15/2017 11:34:25 AM
^^^ I had heard the same thing. I called four different Lowe's stores, but all of them were sold out. I haven't tried any Walmart yet.[Edited on August 15, 2017 at 1:47 PM. Reason : ]
8/15/2017 1:47:20 PM
Honestly all it takes is one lousy Cumulus cloud to fuck it up with a 2 min 30 second window of totality. Anything short of a washout would be worth a try in going.
8/15/2017 3:36:30 PM
I'll be renting a lake house and pontoon boat at Lake Murray. Hopefully, the weather won't be too bad, and we'll be able to reposition the boat away from a passing cloud.I also came across this article:https://www.citylab.com/life/2017/08/the-darker-side-of-this-summers-total-solar-eclipse/535740/
