So since Google Fiber has given the bird to 2/3 of my 'hood and only gonna run service to 1/3 of it, (Wake/Durham county line splits like that) looks like I gotta work with TWC to upgrade my interwebz. Here's my current speedThinking about upgrading to the 300Mbps package. Does anyone on here have it? If so, do you "lease" the modem from TWC or did you get your own? If you got your own, whatcha got and how happy with it are you? I'm currently paying $59.99 for the service I have now, upgrading to 300 will cost me an extra $30 (with modem, $40). holla

I have the 300 mbps package. Here's my middle-of-the-night speed test.I use their modem. It's an Arris DG1670. I have it bridged. I use an ASUS RT-N66U router. This was a hardwired speed test obviously.

i have same speed as OP from TWC cost is $35/month for first year then $45 second year. just buy a modem and router off amazon or something. will pay for itself in a year in less than year

I've got the 200/20 package. Didn't go for the 300 because the upload is still 20.
11/4/2016 9:29:22 PM
I pay for 300/20 Also I would foam at the mouth to 10ms pings. I can't get it under 30ms to my office 6 miles from home.
11/4/2016 10:39:02 PM
You have connection problems.
11/5/2016 12:42:49 PM
So darkone and saturnine, would you say its worth the $$?
11/6/2016 6:15:46 PM
I had 200 down and got similar to wwwebsurfer, dropped to 100 recently and now get routinely over 100. I hate TWC so fucking much.[Edited on November 6, 2016 at 9:55 PM. Reason : foo]

^^ It depends on what you do. My wife's company subsidizes our internet since she works from home. As such, we got the plan that had the highest upload speeds. That plan became the 300/20 plan. As I understand it, the 200 mbps plan also has 20 mbps uploads. The higher upload speed is nice to have for working remotely. As for the 300 mbps download speed, it's a luxury that I rarely take advantage of. I do most my my high-bandwidth work from campus. It's nice to have when I need it. There are surprisingly few places that will push data to you at 300 mbps. If it was still the days of Napster and Scour, I'd be in heaven.
11/6/2016 11:54:54 PM
That's pretty much my reasoning for upgrading my interwebz. There will be times where I work from home so having that upgraded upload speed will be great, though not as good as campus. also, I think the ps4 might like that download speed too. but damn man, its TWC ya know. really hate giving them more $texas.

I must be an outlier. I'd like them to be cheaper, but my experience with TWC has been pretty good. My service is consistent and it stays up. I've found their customer service to be on par with most other companies.
11/8/2016 6:35:36 PM
so I signed up for the 300 plan. This is what I have now. not really any change in the upload. (I'm also using their equipment)
11/26/2016 5:14:40 PM
not getting those awesome upload speeds. Wonder wtf is up with that.
11/29/2016 8:46:11 PM
What's your modem?
11/30/2016 12:07:49 PM
Technicolor TC87151D. Its the modem they gave me.This is my most recent test (done just a bit ago) [Edited on December 1, 2016 at 7:59 PM. Reason : decided to not ghost this time. ]

Here are hourly speed tests for the last 8 months straight (almost 6,000 speed tests): http://pastebin.com/pYCCYXbrI have had to reboot my router a few times during that period, lost power once, and lost internet service for short periods of time here and there. I pay for 200 Mbps service in the Wilmington market. At least 90% of the time I get >90% of the advertised rate. Before TWC upgraded to DOCSIS 3 in my area, I used to chastise them constantly because the service would drop below 20% of the advertised speed every single day from about 6pm until around midnight. Since the upgrade, it has been far more reliable (better than I ever had before from TWC or AT&T DSL). My service is $79.99/month and I bought my own cable modem. Buy a modem and router, don't rent one. The ones they provide are crap.AT&T is currently installing fiber in my neighborhood for gigabit service. I may be switching in the near future unless I can convince TWC to cut their rate substantially. As I understand, AT&T charges $70/month in some places and $110 in others for gigabit.[Edited on December 3, 2016 at 6:35 PM. Reason : ]

I'm having ATT out tomorrow to run gigabit to my house. They dug up the neighborhood about 6 months ago. Is there anything I need to look/ask for in particular?
12/4/2016 5:36:29 PM
Do you know what to expect with the installation? Particularly with the wiring inside your house?
12/5/2016 11:04:20 AM
^^^^ That modem is rated for more speed that TWC will allow. Poor upstream signal quality maybe?
12/5/2016 6:59:16 PM
^ how to test for that? My house is new (3 years old) and the cable running from the igloo outside is that age also. whole street is new, oldest house is maybe 5 years.
12/5/2016 7:19:22 PM
^ My modem (a different model from yours) has a diagnostic pages that reports signal levels by channel. Try 192.168.100.1 or whatever the gateway IP address is.Ask google what ranges the numbers should be in. You can check the log page too.

good call, will do tomorrow.

I had speed asymmetry that looked like that in my building on campus. It turned out to be a problem with the fiber.
1/9/2017 12:49:08 PM
any recommendations for a router / wifi combo (or separates I guess) for TWC?
1/9/2017 3:35:34 PM
getting a little better I guess.
4/7/2017 8:28:55 AM
^ AFAIK, that's as fast as residential TWC gets.
4/7/2017 11:34:12 AM
Just noticed......a $10.00 bump in price by spectrum......PLEASE GOOGLE FIBER COME TO MY AREA!!!!
4/11/2017 8:42:49 AM
tested again. This is what I'm getting. not too shabby.

Look for a tri-band router. Also remember that older wireless-g devices aren't going to be able to do much better than 20 mbps in a typical setting.
5/24/2017 12:50:20 PM
I'm on a webex right now, but here's my speed on my desktop pc (using ethernet to twc modem) However, on 11/22 I'll have google fiber! I'm looking forward to seeing the speed difference. One thing I am noticing though currently, is that the speed on my cell phone (and my wife's phone) is noticeably slower on wifi than my laptop (or our tablets). Not sure what that's all about. I have an andriod and she has an iphone.
11/18/2017 10:51:38 AM
funny enough though, this is what the speedtest app says: on 5Ghz wifi: on 4G: maybe our phones are just shitty.
11/18/2017 11:08:14 AM
TWC: Google Fiber: awww yeah!!
