So my 2005 Honda CRV is reliable, comfortable and just an all around great car. Except that its slow as balls, and sucks in the mountains. Its got the K24 motor, AWD with the 5 speed manual. Can Add turbo/Supercharger and make more go? Add in more clean colorado air and put out blissful BOV noises Shhhewww Shewwww? This reasonable task? Or am I playing with fire in the area of stability? Perhaps more better K20 heads, make more vroom?

Reasonable and fairly straight forward. Don't know about K20 vs K24

1.) back in my day, PSI would have canned this thread-2.) IBT "don't waste your time money"3.)Interesting idea, and most probably someone has done it. IMHO a properly sized turbo would go a long way.

BOOST IT

I say go for it. 6 psi blowing on that engine shouldn't affect reliability much. Only thing I'd be concerned with is the rear drive part of the AWD system. The rear axles on those CRVs look comically thin and fragile.

how you going to buy a slow ass car and then complain the mf'er is slow.
9/28/2016 9:46:02 PM
^^how you been? Figured that would get you out of the woodwork.so what 'powr' levels are you expecting?

maybe he didn't realize just how much power he'd lose driving around in the Rockies.BTW keep in mind the premium fuel out there is only 91 octane piss water.
9/29/2016 9:22:34 AM
240-260 hp

im sure there are more powerful and more comfortable suvs for the same price as your crv. the crv seems to hold value better than similar vintage more capable suvs

Wow, what an engine choice:A 2.4L w/ 184hp and 180 lb-ftOr a 1.5L w/ 190hp and 179 lb-ft
10/14/2016 4:47:04 PM
That's adequate power in that car. What you're after is a modded Forester turbo.
10/14/2016 6:52:12 PM
Right!I guess my point was, which engine would you choose? Performance wise (by the given numbers) there is likely no difference. I doubt the turbo gives you much mpg gains since you'll be in boost all the time just to get the car moving. Power delivery is probably more interesting with the turbo but I'm sure the CVT neuters most of that.[Edited on October 15, 2016 at 9:11 AM. Reason : 1.5 was a good move for the civic though]
10/15/2016 9:11:12 AM
unless it gets 5 MPG better, i couldn't see going with the Turbo over the standard engine... Why introduce turbo complexity to a otherwise reliable car.

Altitude is a reason to get the turbo

It's really easy to overthink things. Fuck it man, if you want to start a project and play with something, do it. It would be cool and unique, and it serves a functional purpose too. Whatever floats your boat man. I'm trying to think of more clichés to throw in here but you get the idea.
10/17/2016 7:43:55 PM
^I love the ideaIt's just funny because Antek posted about the reliability thing.
10/18/2016 7:08:56 AM
oooohhhhh, haha, did not notice that. What a tease! I was hoping for some ridiculum.
11/10/2016 8:34:10 PM
if it has to be reliable don't do it.If its a 2nd car... sure have fun. truth is you could probably DD a turbo CRV....after you fixed all the poor fitting pipes rattling on the chassis, the boost leak or vacuum leak you're bound to create etc.this shit is always easier said than done.i mean if someone makes a RSX supercharger kit that fits i'd consider that. Its weird... at 200-300 hp i feel superchargers are more reliable. at 600hp+ turbos all day long... belt's don't seem to hold up long there.
