Someone seems to be using my email for their user accounts. I signed up for a gmail account very early so I have a desirable account name for people with my last name. Anyway, someone or a few people are using my address to sign up for things like Allstate insurance accounts, etc... which provides recurring email reminders about my payment being due among other things. I'm of the mind to cancel the online accounts of this type of thing since I didn't signup. There isn't a problem doing that right?

Have you ruled out identity theft?

Yes, the name on the emails isn't mine. last name is the same and first letter of first name is the same which leads to a common email address

just unsubscribe, mark as spam, or create filter rulesdon't be a dick and fuck with accounts

Yeah except that leads to me having to do work to stop it. I'd much rather "fix" the issue

so you think:doing a "reset password email"logging in with new passwordnavigating account settingsfinding where to change emailchanging email address or deletingis easier than marking as spam or clicking the button to create a rule?

just email the support for the site and notify them that the email account they have on file is wrong.you don't fuck with the other dude's account, and it fixes your problem.

It happens to me pretty often. Some guy in Texas opened a prepaid cell phone account and accidentally used my email address. I used the forgot password option and logged in and got his home number and called him. Ended up being some 70+ yo guy and since we share an uncommon last name we chatted for a little while. He got his email address updated and all was well.More recently, a pizza hut order was placed against a new account tied to my email address. I called the store and asked if the person who placed the order had already picked it up. They ended up giving me the woman's cell phone number . I texted her from Google Voice (since she wouldn't answer) to let her know there was a mistake. She didn't care, and told me to keep the free breadsticks coupon code. I pestered her enough that she ended up changing it .]

I'd delete someone's papjohns.com account or something trivial. But I wouldn't fuck with insurance, utilities, etc.

I guess ^^this is the answer I was looking for. More companies should force an email address confirm or something at signup.

I've had this a good bit. Some guy was having his car serviced in Canada. When I emailed the shop to tell them they had the wrong email address, the guy responded "that's the one you gave me"........Then I was on some email list for somebody's kid playing hockey or some shit. I really wanted to respond and start some contrived parent on parent drama.
