The corporate media machine has now begun a full onslaught of the Jill Stein campaign. We work very hard to spread information about the policies of Jill and the green party on the grassroots level, but several months of work can be undone by a few biased articles/reports in mass media. I want to clarify a few of our positions based on things people have been saying lately. They are digging deep because none of these are key issues on her website or anything but they are from soundbites that have been dug up recently. "Jill Stein supports alternative medicine"The real issue is that we are facing an opiate epidemic that the two major parties refuse to address or even mention much about. 78 americans die everyday yet all they want to do is fight isis. It would be in good wisdom to avoid getting and opioid prescription if something else is out there. Pharmaceutical companies want to make sure we wait and address this problem when they are certain that something is another drug they can sell at unfair prices. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/article/how-bad-is-the-opioid-epidemic/"But alternative medicine is based on pseudoscience"Not all of it actually. Specifically, in the area of pain, research exists and more is being done on alternative forms of pain relief but drug companies obviously won't fund it so there is a large funding gap. At the end of the day, advancements in alternative medicine could yield huge savings on healthcare (something that is necessary with an aging population), reduction in addiction to pain killers, and decreased profits for drug companies. Even though, two of those are great solutions to key issues, the last result is why you will hear bad things about this policy. They are better off spending a few billion to smear Jill than losing billion each year from painkiller dependency.https://medlineplus.gov/ency/article/002064.htm"Jill is anti-vaccine"Simply not true.

I think we're past the "opioid epidemic" and have moved into full-blown "heroin epidemic" mode now. Cracking down on the pharmaceutical companies alone isn't going to fix this problem; they missed that boat 15 years ago.
7/30/2016 2:18:04 PM
Pharmaceuticals are only part of the problem. People who want to take drugs will find other drugs to take. The problem is the decreasing quality of life and upward mobility for the lower class.

Jill Stein has said she will not only pardon Snowden, but make him a cabinet member. Do you support this?

You know what we call alternative medicine that works? Medicine. [/thread]

Explain to me the logic of cracking down on pharmaceutical companies to limit opioid prescriptions
8/1/2016 1:17:10 PM
I don't think anyone said anything about cracking down on pharmaceutical companies directly. We just can't let them drive policy. They profit off of the prescriptions that lead to addiction and the epidemic. Solving the problem will certainly reduce their profits so they will lobby against any measures being put in place to prescribe these painkillers more responsibly as well as the proliferation of any alternative painkillers that they cannot sell.

Hybridization also happens naturally. GMO is extremely different and as you said, extremely precise which is the cause for concern. There very little chance a gene from an exotic fish could make it into a plant naturally and there are huge ecological implications to the release of targeted genes into the wild. A chemical or indgredience can be cleaned up at a point spill. Chemicals cannot reproduce or magnify themselves at an exponential rate. This is a much more serious ecological threat which is why the organizations i listed agree. We are specifically taking about genes that prevent plants from being preyed upon, make them grow faster, and make them tolerant to environmental limitations that could otherwise limit their growth such as climate and soil quality. Imagine if this combination of genes became invasive by making it into a non-crop population. In that situation, the best case scenario is that the company introduces a reversal gene (also with unknown implications) to try and fix the problem. The least we're asking for is sterile seed GMO so that these unnatural gene combinations can't cross over into the wild. This isn't cattle. You can't contain plants to a certain area and keep them from mixing with native populations.[Edited on August 1, 2016 at 7:47 PM. Reason : c]

that is the batshit insane thing. silence opposition by drowning them out with narrative that they are insane before people actually hear what they are about. the current state of our government is sane though...You will win the battle but you won't suppress information forever. Eventually, the people will wake up and reject the oligarchy. Even if its 50 years too late.

8/28/2016 9:49:42 PM
I'm for Jill Stein but unlike most on this board, maintaining one set of beliefs doesn't prevent me from seeing multiple perspectives which allow for understanding (and even respecting) a set of political beliefs that I disagree with overall. Libertarian policies make sense based on their premise that the federal government cannot thus should not solve a lot of these problems. I disagree with their premise because other governments successfully solve a lot of the problems we are talking about. Sure it hasn't been done here but I don't attribute that to an innate inefficiency in the american government but to the corruption of the democrat and republican parties. With all of that said, having a government that governs by a philosophy i disagree with is better than having a government that governs by corruption and crony capitalism. At the end of the day, I'd rather just keep my tax dollars than have them funneled off to global corporate interests especially if they are being funneled away under the disguise of some sort of alleged progressive ideology (democrats).
