god there is absolutely no excuse why cars were ever designed to be that ugly

it has nothing to do with the time period or anything..

we have thousands of years of absolutely beautiful art, yet no discretion was used whatsoever in the design/look of all these cars from the 80s and 90s..

likeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee I mean what

it's not cheaper to produce an uglier-looking piece of shit car

what's the excuse

Agreed even the luxury cars were ugly in the 80s. I mean Mercedes, bmw, etc all looked like pieces of shit. Mustangs were terrible. Thenot you get to the fire birds and camaros lol

Don't have any personal pictures. This thing was a beast. The door could take out person when it swung open. Used this throughout high school and was pretty reliable, except it had problem going up hills towards the end.

For real, no actual pictures of my first car. The car I bought with my brother back in high school looked like this:

91 Jeep Cherokee Laredo - the paint was all faded on the hood, which was apparently a problem with that color that year.

I know all about being rich, having bought that sweet 96 camry at 19 from my grandmother who had recently lost her license.

1991 Chevy S10 Blazer 4X4 - Except it was that awful carolina blue and had chrome on the bottom. It also had a 4X4 decal down the side. I only had it for about a year.

EMCE doin' the Lord's work in this thread.

I looked for like two minutes for the old beater Batmobile with a wooden spoiler that used to park on Brent Road. No joy.

There, I gave you a hint.

Well for one thing, angular style was "in" in the 80s. Second, government regulations dictated a lot of the styling, due to things like 5 mph bumpers and sealed beam headlights (i.e. those rectangular glass headlights were mandatory, for everyone).

Being "in" doesn't mean it isn't godawful. The 80s/early 90s designs are almost universally wretched.

It wasn't my first car, but it was the first that I paid for and the picture of the oldest car I've owned. I will be getting another of these one day and pimp it out.

Very similar to this. 1982 Mazda 626. Same age as me.
It had plenty of cigarette burns from my grandpa and smelled of old cigarette smoke.

1980 Datsun truck.
Somewhere on this planet that motor is still running. If it ran out of gas the leaky rings would allow oil blow-by and just diesel combust long as you kept it hot enough. (long enough to get you a mile or two anyway)
I miss it dearly.
You could start it with a pocket knife. Locked myself out once and just kicked it till worn out striker just gave up the ghost and let me in.
Great truck

Car I drove in high school (it died during freshman year of college):

Then I paid for this one myself at some point during freshman year of college:

(Neither pic is my actual car).

That Saturn kept kicking for 12 years and it never actually died, just traded it in for a newer car in 2013.

I still miss this vehicle, but I think I'd get tired of it quickly if I had it back. No AC, constantly needed work, manual everything, horrible gas mileage, and no functional defog.
