And go!

it is unbelievable how many people are playing this in denver. i spent 3 hrs in the park today and probably saw 150 total walking around.
7/10/2016 11:49:31 PM
It annoys me how many people are playing and in such stupid ways. It's worse than texting while walking, because people are letting their screens dictate where the are walking. As opposed to things like other walkers and traffic. At least nerds are getting exercise?[Edited on July 11, 2016 at 12:00 AM. Reason : -]

^^ Were you in the park for 3 hours because you were also part of the 150 people walking around?I downloaded it, figured I'd give it a try, but I'm not going out of my way to "catch them all"
7/11/2016 12:04:47 AM
i was reluctant at first but i was basically forced into playing by my gf. it's pretty damn fun after level 5. ask me again in a week though.
7/11/2016 12:12:21 AM
Went hiking today. Two people in the group kept falling behind because they kept trying to catch pokemon on the trail. Eventually we just left them. They ended up getting to the end of the trail like 45 mins after us with drained cell phone batteries.
7/11/2016 12:16:56 AM
I have been playing although if you live away from a populated area its significantly less fun as i walked around my whole area and found zero pokemon. There is one pokestop nearby I try to hit up anytime I drive by but otherwise I have to do this while out shopping or such. Went out to eat last night and hit a few of the places that were near and definitely saw multiple other cars drive up clearly doing the same thing. I expect to hear several reports of accidents and pedestrians being hit due to this game I would imagine.

Also, the Android version is broke as shit. One glaring example is the Pokedex. No matter what I click on there I only get taken to Charmander. His description literally has one letter per line.... How the fuck did they release this?
7/11/2016 8:35:04 AM
I have the Android version and it works great. Though you definitely have to be in heavily populated areas. Read that Crabtree was basically a Pokemon breeding ground and you could find them every 10 feet or so. I'll just have to use it while out to dinner or shopping.
7/11/2016 8:51:03 AM
Yeah I sat in a target parking lot for a while and caught several on Saturday. They occasionally show up while I am at work but for now I am just trying to pay attention to where things are in places I frequent so I know what to hit up while I am in the area.
7/11/2016 8:58:28 AM
Saw 50+ people in Nash Square at any given time this weekend. I've probably seen 3 people there at a time max before this. Get in to work this morning at State and my 55 year old boss has already claimed the gym we can access from the building. Everyone is talking about it here. Crazy.
7/11/2016 9:26:32 AM
so is this just a newer version of geocaching?
7/11/2016 9:28:15 AM
it's like Ingress if you ever played that, except far less confusing[Edited on July 11, 2016 at 9:36 AM. Reason : .]
7/11/2016 9:35:56 AM
i must be crazy because i just don't get it. yeah, it's cool but wtf am I going to do with the pokemon. this game offers nothing to me other than the option to walk, which I already do plenty of.
7/11/2016 9:48:08 AM
On Android, the Power Saver mode is pretty broken for me. The phone/game keeps getting confused as to what 'up' is. Also, any sort of 'sleep' mode has about a 50% chance of working properly. A phone lock or app minimizing has about a 30% chance to break everything and require a restart.
7/11/2016 10:43:58 AM
I have defnitely had to close and reopen a bunch on my iPhone its pretty buggy. I expect updates to start coming in addressing some of these I would hope.
7/11/2016 11:13:49 AM
Day 4... Making decent progress...Magmars are popular around Lake Johnson (kinda off but whatever...)Pullen Park has a lot of Jinx during the evening.Toro is common at Marla Dorrel Park.Moore Square is a breeding ground of various pokemon and with the pokestores (5 of them iirc) all on top of each other, it's a popular spot to just sit, catch, and restock on items.I've seen a player with the handle staceface. That name rings a bell, but I do not know why... Someone on here?[Edited on July 11, 2016 at 11:22 AM. Reason : .]

I am screwed with where I live haha best one I have is like 108 so far guess I am gonna have to take some time to go somewhere and walk around for a few hours. Gonna try out an incense tonight at my house and see if its a waste or if they actually show up while thats active.

7/11/2016 11:44:37 AM
I had 4 show up with a incense last night at my house
7/11/2016 11:45:28 AM
If I leave the app open I get one to show up here at work about once every hour or two so at least if I am at my desk I get a few during the day. Will be nice once its not so damn hot out every day then I will think about stopping somewhere haha.
7/11/2016 11:52:33 AM
Ive picked this up since I normally take walks during the work day, but I dont understand what im doing really. What do you do with them after you catch them? Is it better to evolve or upgrade?
7/11/2016 11:59:57 AM
It doesnt matter which order you do them in but personally I am saving up my items till I am a higher level since as you level up the ones you catch tend to be better so makes sense to me to wait to spend the items I get until its a bit more worth it. Also if you click on the pokemon you will see a half circle over their head that gives you an idea how powerful they are compared to their potential so if its on the far left dont waste your time and if its on the far right it will take less items to max it out. Hope that makes sense.
7/11/2016 12:03:55 PM
Just reached level 5, so I guess it's time to find a gym. I've got a pokestop in range of my work desk, and have quite a few ratattas and pigeon things without having to even move, and starting to see others, downtown is pretty flush with stops. Does it use a ball if you throw and miss, or only if you capture one?
7/11/2016 12:10:28 PM
Uses one everytime you throw including if you miss. Also the better ones can break out I went through about 30 trying to catch one yesterday and it broke out about 15 times finally I said fuck it and left.
7/11/2016 12:18:08 PM
Hah yeah, all the ones I've seen that are above green level have busted out multiple times on me, a few I could never get
7/11/2016 12:20:56 PM
Just found a Chansey in a 10km egg, stats seem weird though. 109CP, 15/50 attack, but 171HP, jesus.[Edited on July 11, 2016 at 12:37 PM. Reason : also goddamn Hiro]
7/11/2016 12:34:41 PM
You have to have the app open and running for it to count your distance, right? If you lock your phone and reopen it won't check the difference? This thing destroys my battery.
7/11/2016 12:40:16 PM
I believe so and it doesnt count driving either unless you are creeping along. It has to have caught a bit of my driving though as I know I havent walked this far with the app open haha
7/11/2016 12:47:01 PM
It's all about the percentage it's already been leveled up. There's no cost incentive to level up first and then evolve or the other way around. When you evolve, the CP marker will stay in the same spot (the arc that represents progress of a Pokemon's leveling). I try to only spend stardust and evolution efforts on those pokemon caught already ~85% or closer to its max level. Also, no correlation between the current attack skills and the evolved attack skills. AFAIK, completely random. So. don't focus too hard on which pokemon has attack skills you like if you're going to evolve it anyways.
7/11/2016 1:01:10 PM
Yeah once you evolve the attacks randomize again so if it had a good attack before it might be a shitty one after you evolve.
7/11/2016 1:23:39 PM
No sense in holding a pokemon back from evolving. It'll always be weaker than it's evolved form, and by a lot at that. Only reason to keep it is if you want to show it off or, like a true master, collect them all...
7/11/2016 1:28:11 PM
So you should keep the pokemon with the highest CP to be evolved?
7/11/2016 1:39:48 PM
^ and following that question...do I transfer duplicates that are lower in CP and keep the highest or is there benefit to keeping certain duplicates?[Edited on July 11, 2016 at 1:44 PM. Reason : a]
7/11/2016 1:43:30 PM
Well.. There is a benefit to keeping multiple Eevee. Evolving Eevee will net you one of the three evolution paths at random (Vaporeon, Jolteon, Flareon). She Evolves pretty high too (my near max 340 ish Eevee evolved to a 900 Vaporeon, for example). But I want a Jolteon, so it looks like I'm going to have to find another Eevee to try again. Capturing ones in the wild already close to maxed out will help you save on stardust, which is more time consuming to obtain than the candies (well, depending on how rare/hard the pokemon type you are trying to capture). You could have a bunch of the same pokemons evolved (like a bunch of Gyrados if you want to take on a fire heavy gym), but keep in mind you are really going to have to collect a ton of candy for that one pokemon to keep them all leveled up together. I'd suggest having a diverse collection of water pokemon instead...I usually keep the highest CP and transfer the rest. The only low ones I've kept (more as trophies) are the starter pokemons. The rest that I've kept actually have a purpose. You can hold up to 250 pokemon, so there's ultimately no harm in holding on to one for the sake of holding on to it. But if it's not fighting, or you have no intention on leveling it up, then I'd release it; especially since it's a bitch to go through each pokemon individually and releasing it. The UI could be improved...It is helpful to keep some mid-level cp pokemon around to put in a gym to help train against to allow people on your team to level up the gym. You don't want to throw a relatively high CP pokemon in a low level gym.[Edited on July 11, 2016 at 2:18 PM. Reason : /][Edited on July 11, 2016 at 2:19 PM. Reason : .]
7/11/2016 2:16:49 PM
When do i get a team?
7/11/2016 2:39:09 PM
You've got to hit level 5, then go to a gym and you'll choose a team
7/11/2016 2:43:33 PM
where's a good spot near State/downtown to find Evee?
7/11/2016 2:45:15 PM

7/11/2016 3:11:41 PM
Does anyone know if you can transfer pokemon that have fainted? I havent done any gym battles yet but from what I read you just have to wear them down in fights over and over again so I was wondering if it might be wise to save up some duplicates and throw them at the meat grinder first until they die then just transfer them lol.
