A new thread for a new age! Give me some places to eat and drink in Baltimore this weekend. I'll be at Camden Yards Friday night and Saturday afternoon.

Alewife had good food and drinks and is very walkable from there.

Every time I have been to Baltimore I have been incredibly fucked up.

there's tons of good Italian restaurants in little Italy, La Scala being one of my favorites. I've heard good thinks about the B&O brasserie, but I've never been.

^any liquor stores worth checking out?

Talk to John Green; he used to live in Federal Hill.

don't go to the red light district in search of prostitutes and drugs. you have the internet for that stuff now.

If you like pizza, I recommend Matthew's Pizza.http://matthewspizza.com/

Di Pasquale's Marketplace

If you are going to Camden make sure to hit Pickle's Pub. That place is a lot of fun around game time.

The Petite Cellars in Ellicott City is where I used to go often; they have a very good bourbon and irish/scotch/Japanese/Korean whiskey selection. Wells discount liquor may be closer to where you're staying, but the selection isn't quite as good. For a good cocktail, Bookmakers in Federal Hill is good. There are plenty of decent whiskey bars in the Federal Hill and Fells Point area.

Was just there last weekend....Ill throw in another vote for Di Pasquale's if youre in that area. Also, The Brewers Art in Belvedere...the food was OK, but the house brews were great (I recommend Resurrection and Beazly). Also, the Charmery (west of Johns Hopkins)...maybe youll like the Old Bay Caramel ice cream. The whole area is hipster as fuck too, if thats your thing. Also, I recommend taking the circulator/light rail when available, but if you have to rely on a bus, just get a cab/Uber (asuming youre not driving everywhere).

Fuck, I hate I missed this thread. I just moved up here at the start of May, and live right around the corner from Brewers' Art.

had a great time in Charm City. It was a quick trip, dominated by baseball but we still got to see a good bit of the city. Spent Friday around Camden Yards and did the usual cheap beers pregame at Pickles. Post game we walked through the harbor to Fells Point. Stopped into 4-5 places, but ultimately, we were so tired from the drive and game that most of them were too busy/loud for what we wanted. We settled in at Bertha's which had a good local feel to it and was pretty quiet. Saturday we marched down to Federal Hill and had breakfast at Spoons followed by beers at No Way Jose. Took a walk to the Federal Hill park overlooking the Harbor. Post game we had dinner at Ryleigh's before hitting up a few of the other FH bars.

I will be traveling to Baltimore next week for work so this thread is now relevant to my interests. I'll be staying at a hotel on the Harbor East side near Fells Point and right south of Little Italy. Looks like you can cross pedestrian bridges to the piers, but appears to be mainly chain stores and shopping - anything worth checking out there besides the old ships?Di Pasquale's looks like a decent cab ride away, but I'm sure I'll hit up one of the italian restaurants in Little Italy - not sure which one yet since they all look good online (Da Mimmo's maybe?). What about good seafood places to check out in that area since you always hear about Baltimore seafood fare? Any specific local watering holes in that area worth patronizing?Anyone ever been to the Peabody Library? http://peabodyevents.library.jhu.edu/ Worth a trip? Don't have much time for sightseeing but did want to visit the Peabody and found a good used bookstore in Federal Hill - The Book Escape.[Edited on August 31, 2016 at 2:58 AM. How about Faidley's Seafood - anyone dined there before? Supposed to be famous for their crab cakes although I imagine lots of restaurants in the city make that claim.
8/31/2016 8:51:20 AM
Faidley's is expensive, but it's real damn good. I've eaten there a couple of times since I moved to the area, and I think its claim to best crab cakes is broadly supported.I live a few blocks from the Peabody library but haven't been yet. It keeps kind of weird hours.Fells Point has plenty of non-chain options, and tons of bars. I don't get out that way too often, but Max's Taphouse has a very wide selection of beers (I think the most in the city?), and I'm partial to The Horse You Rode In On.

Thanks. How about alewife's as a possible after Fraidley's spot for a drink? Any other good bar recommendations around the Lexington Market?
8/31/2016 11:19:38 AM
I'm a fan of Alewife.

Vaccaro's in little Italy for desert.
8/31/2016 1:34:46 PM
Saw Vaccaro's - but is it just like Kaminsky's in Charleston, overpriced and crowded with tourists? Or do they have something unique worth going for?

I love the Salty Balty. What are you looking for? More food or booze? Because the second thrives in that city. It's a wild time every time I go.

Well I went last week - good times. Ate at La Scala in Little Italy and Boathouse Canton in Fells Point - both were good, great view of the water at Boathouse. People love running on the waterfront - kind of reminded me of the Battery in Charleston.Went to see the Peabody Library at Johns Hopkins the first day, worth seeing if you're into books or philanthropic history - otherwise you could skip since they don't let you peruse the stacks. Tried to walk from there to Lexington Market, ended up having to take a cab when I got turned around due to construction. Finally get to Lexington and Faidley's was out of crabcake meat so I had to settle for some random cheesesteak place - but at least I got to see where the front and follow scene from The Wire was filmed, knew that had to be the place as soon as I walked in. Not finding anything by Mencken in a used bookstore in Baltimore was a little disappointing - but got to walk around Federal Hill for a few minutes which looked nice.Finished my course early on Saturday and decided to tour the USCGC Taney docked in the inner harbor - last surviving ship from the attack on Pearl Harbor. Definitely worth the $11 if you're in that area. Hopefully next time I'll be able to tour the USS Torsk sub too.
