Hello, friend, you've got an outgoing personality and seem like someone that would love to build wealth while taking ownership of your career! Well, I've got an exciting opportunity for you...Several of my co-workers are on the Isagenix train; my dad loves Primerica. What about the rest of y'all? Anyone in your lives suddenly really enthusiastic about fantastic product that will solve all your problems?

I don't miss the days when these assholes would try and recruit you in grocery stores.[Edited on June 1, 2016 at 9:53 AM. Reason : Hey buddy have you ever tried this orange juice before?]
6/1/2016 9:51:34 AM
I make a point of shaming them publicly.

Yeah, fucking Thrive is everywhere.[Edited on June 1, 2016 at 10:28 AM. Reason : At work and with Facebook acquaintances from a past job.]

I sat down with a guy once and it seemed like a lot of work with no way to predict your potential gains. I don't get why someone wouldn't try investing or a traditional business instead.
6/1/2016 10:56:10 AM
Investing in a traditional business usually costs a lot more than that the $100-500 in product these scams expect you to buy as your starting inventory.
6/1/2016 11:19:04 AM
Sleazy way to make a living, but if you fall for it, you deserve what you get.
6/1/2016 11:22:30 AM
Vector MarketingI went to their "seminar" 10 mins in I left
6/1/2016 11:38:49 AM
Also, most of these are marketed on a "You can do it. It only requires X amount of effort per week, and you could see Y returns on your investment." Sorta the timeshare math. The numbers feel concrete, so it feels like a real thing, especially if you have been looking for away to earn more money. That's why it's so little surprise that so many teachers have taken up with it.

What about things like Rodan + Fields and all those other FB products people are peddling?I have at least 3 friends now who are all selling different types of products.
6/1/2016 12:08:07 PM
This whole MLM on FB thing must be close to collapsing.I bet 1 out of 6 women on FB (at least my friends) are selling this crap (Rodan + Fields). It reminds me of the dotcom bubble when everyone was giving out stock advice... I remember a cabby telling us to buy some tech stock that I never heard of.[Edited on June 1, 2016 at 12:51 PM. 6/1/2016 1:25:05 PM
I talked my brother out of Market America.

My FB friends must not be as gullible as y'all's
6/1/2016 2:55:56 PM
or mebbe u dont have any
6/1/2016 2:57:37 PM
Was hoping Fields would be hotter for a "plowing" joke.
6/1/2016 3:20:58 PM
Ugh, lady across the street from me has been peddling essential oils. One of the worst ones in my opinion, since she tries to label it as an alternative to modern medicine. Like with Cutco or whatever, at least you are getting probably a decent knife. These essential oils are meant to replace medicine prescribed by actual doctors. She keeps inviting me to her essential oil parties. One time she told my wife to rub lemonseed oil on her feet to help with allergies. Seriously, wtf makes you think that would have any effect other than making your feet smell like lemons!??
6/1/2016 5:27:53 PM
^those oils are pretty much the definition of the placebo effect
6/1/2016 6:11:53 PM
my wife is into Thrive.I tried it, i thought it was pretty good.
6/1/2016 6:33:34 PM
message_topic.aspx?topic=645477It's gotten so much worse. And I finally fired her as my stylist and I feel so FREE
6/1/2016 6:47:11 PM
Ha, I clicked on this thread thinking about Isagenix. A guy I used to know from my gym quit his day job because he was making 6 figures through Isagenix. Don't know if he's still doing that well, but he tried several times to recruit me.And I definitely remember Vector/Cutco back in the day.

Cutco's serrated knives are pretty solid. The rest are "meh". I'm also too lazy to send knives off to get sharpened.
6/2/2016 7:54:22 AM
rogueleader puts out a call among our friends for knives that need sharpening about once a year and takes them all to a guy who sharpens knives at the flea market.
6/2/2016 7:57:30 AM
I have a bunch of friends that are successful in LegalShield/Prepaid Legal. But it is actually a valuable service people can use. I am a member and have used the service a bunch (including getting speeding tickets dropped) but I don't try to sell the services.
6/2/2016 8:39:34 AM
I feel like you're probably better off with a service as opposed to a product. Does ^that require/ask that the user seek out additional sellers and such? I'm not familiar with it.I think the problem is misleading folks into thinking they can be successful entrepreneurs just by selling a product. If someone in your social network told you about it, chances are the market's already saturated: You're not gonna make the killing they promise.

I may not be remembering the price correctly, but it definitely didn't amount to the savings the guy was pitching. Looking at the Cutco website, a 4" paring knife is listed at $64.[Edited on June 2, 2016 at 10:42 AM. Reason : ///]
6/2/2016 10:42:07 AM
good knives are worth it, but for that price i'd go with a Wusthof Classic set or something similar
6/2/2016 10:52:07 AM
Cutco has block sets that run 3-4K I aint paying for no knives that expensive.
6/2/2016 11:31:35 AM
^^ glad someone else immediately compared it to wusthof prices
6/2/2016 3:08:40 PM
I just use my comb
6/2/2016 3:13:19 PM
I can't remember what Cutco cost, I just remember getting the set that I used to sell them for pretty cheap (the Personal Marketing class that required you to sell them).15 years later and their serrated knives still cut better than any of the new shit I've purchased in the last five years.

the little 5" serrated knife in that line is awesome for hard salami and other charcuterie
6/3/2016 7:16:15 AM
6/3/2016 8:46:03 AM
those knives at costco with the white plastic handles are great, especially for the money. any knife is gonna suck if you don't care for it properly.

anyone seen these pearl parties? i guess the chick shows up with a bunch of "oysters" and all the other chicks open them up to find a pearl inside each one and then you have to buy some of their shit to turn it into jewelry. looks stupid as fuck.
8/22/2016 8:25:47 PM
lolwut
8/22/2016 8:32:05 PM
yeah, dude. saw a chick opening some kind of nasty oysters in a facebook live video feed. didn't look like the kind of oysters you want to eat. each one had a pearl inside. they're from a pearl farm, i guess.
8/22/2016 8:37:50 PM
Hi I sale knives.
8/22/2016 10:11:09 PM
The Pearl Party thing must be these guys:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HO9lCIK1s7YHave several FB acquaintances doing Scentsy and Thirty-One. Friends mom jumped on 31 pretty early and became a higher up manager, but thankfully she made her own 31 FB group and only posts about it on her personal page when she is travelling or at a conference. The young/bored stay at home moms (especially the military ones) are the worst about annoying the shit out of people on FB about it. I stopped following a few due to constantly spamming that shit. One HS classmate was working for LegalShield for a bit. He would constantly post stuff that shit talked the competition and tried to get people to sign up with him. His now ex is currently hawking Younique and Pink Zebra.

I thought the guy that taught my Business 225 Personal Finance class was a great professor who knew his shit.At the same time, his grand idea to save money was have two jobs and don't have kids. Well duh.
8/23/2016 12:28:41 PM
^^ I felt like he also had a fitting TV Anchor name...like Stone Philips...or something along those lines (I want to say his last name was "Stone"....but I could be way off).
