or freestyle?i have been messing with them for a little while now..just seeing if anyone twwers have flown at all (not talking about phantoms or toy quadcopters)heres my first attempt at a video:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cbl9sawWU6M[Edited on May 19, 2016 at 9:48 PM. Reason : vid]

I was going to build one, but was underwhelmed with the available camera choices... this was ~3 months ago though, not sure if newer ones with higher res have hit the market yet. Also surprised no one has come up with a digital transmission, i get it's easy to get low latency with analog video, but it's 2016...
5/19/2016 11:27:42 PM
well the actual fpv cameras are analog for the low latency (as you said) ..but you dont really need high resolution to see what you are doing. a good high dynamic range, high contrast fpv camera works well, then you also mount a gopro or similar to record the high resolution video of your flight.on the 10th of this month they announced a new product called Connex Prosight which is supposed to be (near) zero latency hd fpv transmission. but it may not fit on the little miniquads ..might have to move up in size (and down in agility)

I do. Not so much official racing as just flying around.I still have to sit while flying FPV.
5/20/2016 8:38:46 AM
Yeah i am the same. I still have to sit, tried standing a couple times and didnt fall.. but felt like i was going to what kind of quad are you flying, what components, etc?i have a vortex 250 pro, a qav210 and a qavri can give more details if anyne wants to know

Looks like too much fun for me

Where do you fly around here? i wouldn't mind checking one out in person first, before pulling the trigger on a build.

theres a park near my house that i like to fly at
5/23/2016 3:42:16 PM
when i bought the vortex 2 months ago i had to find large open fields to fly in...otherwise i would crash into stuff. Now i have fnially gotten good enough to fly around my (small ass) front yard and street. It is very challenging but so fun..and right out the front door I will have to upload a video from my dvr in the goggles..ill put up a link

here is a video from earlier:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BthXsp5ZnmE

that looks pretty cool
5/24/2016 11:13:11 AM
if anyone wants to come check it out in person..i have an extra set of goggles so you can "ride along" little flying around the yard with a tiny micro brushed quad i built a while back...perfect for indoor/outdoor, cant damage anything with it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-nM_4RFaMtQ(video quality sucks on this little one..the camera/vtx combo is micro sized and only 10mW or something rediculous

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIN1eF6ZFlgHere's a $100 kit, would be a great way to get a hang of the controls.
5/26/2016 7:22:49 PM
I recently purchased the Eachine racer 250. Not gonna lie, learning curve is steeper than I thought it would be. Never flown a quad before, but I assumed I'd pick it up quicker. Not a lot of fpv yet. Wanted to wait until I got a hang of line of sight flying. Maybe I should have started with a Syma or nano qx before diving into this.I haven't exactly been impressed. Can't seem to hold a steady altitude, will float up and down a bit without moving the throttle. I wondered if it was an issue with the motors. I haven't really had any hard impacts either, but the XT60 connector for the battery is already loose and the battery will come disconnected even with a typical landing.
5/26/2016 9:02:37 PM
The racers aren't generally great for slow hovering, they're designed for aerobatics, at least for the current gen of flight controllers. I was hoping to be able to build a dual purpose camera and racing rig, but people told me this wasn't feasible. Since I have some experience with controls I was also looking at some of the more programmable flight controllers to try and roll my own but haven't made it this far yet.
5/26/2016 11:04:25 PM
I havent done anything with FPV, but I LOVE my Syma x5-c. Best $45 I've EVER spent. It's been a great platform for learning how to fly quads. I also thought it would be much easier though. I have 25+ years of HEAVY RC (car) racing experience. But quads are a totally different beast.
5/28/2016 9:30:01 AM
Hey omgyouresexyIf you want a hand with the eachine let me know. I can help you get it dialed in and can also fix the lose battery plug. Another friend of mine that recently got into the hobby has a eachine racer also. Another thing I would try it download a sim and practice on that as much as possible. I play fpv freerider, liftoff, fpv event, drone racing. They are all pretty good and will help you learn rate mode (acro) much quicker. I use a taranis transmitter and it has a USB port so you can just plug it in and use it for the sims. Other controllers can also be used but it's a little more involved setup.

These are the FPV quads I have right now (not including my micro brushed quads) im selling the one on the left (its a Vortex 250 pro, awesome quad..i just have too many ,its indestructable)the one all the way on the right is my new addition, tyrant 150. small and perfect for zipping around the yard

Hey man, nice rigs. I've been designing and making some micro frames. The latest one is just over 6g. I'm working on a camera/tx mount for it now that will add another gram. Here's the prototype: http://community.micro-motor-warehouse.com/t/new-frame-build-carbon-x-squared-frame/1887https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IG7zonkU-PsLet me know if you want one![Edited on May 30, 2016 at 6:42 PM. Do you think it would be worth shelving my Eachine for a bit and getting something like the Syma to learn on? Or would they fly the same and I might as well learn on the Eachine? I do have ~$50 in amazon dollar bucks. I will try out the drone, but I only have the Eachine controller and I don't think is will connect to the computer as easily.glassssssss, I really appreciate the offer, but I'm in Hickory, NC. I do come up to Raleigh occasionally and could hit you up. I was thinking the female connector had just loosened. It doesn't feel wobbly. It's almost like whatever retainer mechanism that is meant to hold the male in (compression fit, spring pins, idk) just stopped working. Maybe I can spread out the spring pins in the female connector. I think i just got discourages at how quickly i started having problems, especially after the YouTube reviews talked about how durable it was. In the end, maybe I jumped too quickly into the "hobby world" where I need to learn how to solder and make repairs. I really probably should have started with the Syma or something.
5/30/2016 8:45:12 PM
Get one of the Hubsan x4 quads. They are durable as hell and have a good yaw rate. The muscle memory you learn with one of those will absolutely cross over to the hobby quads. After the x4 is no longer a challenge, get a q4, they are one of the best sub-micro quads you can buy, and they are a totaly hoot, even for a seasoned pro. Crazy yaw and pitch rates and you can use the larger x4 controller (it has adjustable control rates and is larger).
5/30/2016 8:51:45 PM
yes it can be hard starting out..especially if you dont have any experience with RC or soldering. i would keep playing with the eachine. I would go find a huge field, get high up and start flying back and forth.watch youtube videos on how to fly acro mode and do coordinated turnsthe hubsan doesnt offer a rate or acro mode (that im aware). Just level modes...you need a quad that has some manual mode if you want to be able to actually do cool stuff with it instead of just hover around. i cant emphasize enough how useful the sims arenon of my quads have accelerometers enabled so i can only fly acro mode on all of them. even my micros (based off blade inductrix flight controller and nano qx flight controller) do acro mode.the only quad that I dont fly in full manual mode is my phantom..which for a camera rig you are better off using a autolevel modeDustm..thats a nice little build!ive printed the dreamcatcher and a few other frames for my micros but i eventually picked up the pfg 110mm carbon fiber frame and its holding up nicely. My only problem with the little brushed quads is the motors are too fragile.[Edited on May 30, 2016 at 10:44 PM. Reason : .][Edited on May 30, 2016 at 10:47 PM. Reason : s]
5/30/2016 10:40:26 PM
What do you mean by "full manual" mode? Quads I thought inherently require a controller doing some processing (which is part of why they're so popular), unless you're controlling each motor individually? The hubsan does have an advanced mode that adds a flip macro, but no other real maneuvers beyond that.
5/31/2016 12:04:01 AM
full manual mode means no auto-leveling.no accelerometer is used to level the craft when you let off the the sticks. all corrections need to be made by the pilot
5/31/2016 2:38:33 AM
Yeah, basically a "stays where you put it, goes where you point it" mode. For LOS flying with a fast quad I like a combo mode with a mild self-leveling and tilt angle limit at the first 60% of stick travel, and then manual (or rate mode as they call it) past 60%.Man that little quad looks fragile! Glad it's holding up though. It's light as hell... 3.5g haha! I assume it has a good bit of flex? And yeah the little micro motors like to bend shafts and come apart when you crash, not to mention eat up brushes. I'd say at least they're cheap, but it certainly adds up.[Edited on May 31, 2016 at 1:03 PM. Reason : d]

Haha, I think you spooked the couple on their walk. Looks like you have pretty good reception all the way around the house.
6/8/2016 12:51:07 PM
i've been thinking about getting into this. How much you selling the quad for?
6/8/2016 7:52:56 PM
^^yeah..they spooked me too..noticed how i immediately go hover over my house for a little while as they pass by. I dont ever want to annoy or scare a neighbor with these things if i can help it this 150 is so small i dont think anyone could be scared of it^id let the vortex go for $350, bought it new a couple months ago for $500, and I've upgraded the motors to some of the nicer ones on the market right now (still have stock motors for backups and willl include them...comes with a bunch of extra stuff too)you would still need a spektrum compatible transmitterand goggles[Edited on June 10, 2016 at 4:11 PM. My first FPV flight (on the screen that came with the quad). I was terrified I was gonna crash it. Stayed pretty high. Wobbling all over the place, especially when i was descending. I wonder if it's my PIDs or just something that happens.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYmqp1_6448I also used some Amazon credit to buy the Eachine EV800. I figured it was a decent compromise. The camera that came with the Eachine isn't that great, and saving $250 is worth having a giant box attached to my face. Anyone here have any experience with this model? I think it's pretty new.
7/8/2016 9:44:29 PM
^ nice. Id guess maybe the wobble is just wind? You weren't really pushing the speed too much so I could see wind being more noticeable And if you haven't don't forget to register and mark your drone and stay under 400'.
7/9/2016 2:34:31 AM
Yeah, I have registered. It's hard for me to have a concept of what 400' is.<googles> Apparently it's hard as shit to find baseball light pole height. Only thing I could find says between 70 and 90'. I don't think I'm going that high. Also, I got the EV800 in today, and i don't think I'm blown away. It's a bit like holding a phone really close to your face and then having to focus on it... wasn't easy. Maybe just a sign I'm getting old and will need reading glasses soon. It's also really unsettling not being able to quickly glance up. Probably just need more practice and I'll get comfortable with it.
