So I want to buy a decent sized lego set (like a 700+ piece Millennium Falcon or something). And assemble it at work, working on it like 5-10 minutes at a time when I need a small break from work.

A better angle to this troll would have been explaining some consequence and remaining oblivious to feedback of this behavior's social acceptance.

how is this trolling?

It's not weird for me. I have the Episode IV Millennium Falcon (7965) and the Episode VII Millennium Falcon (75105) on display at my desk. I didn't build them at my desk, and I don't advise you to do it either, but that's just because of the size. I've built other small models at my desk without comment from anyone.[Edited on April 28, 2016 at 4:50 PM. Reason : ///]

You gave us no information about where you work but you asked for advice suggesting you question the appropriateness

if Lego releases that Johnny 5 kit they're considering it will grace my desk

It might be ok depending on the job and the people you work with. At my last job I brought my SNES to work, so we could play on break and the boss was cool with that. At my current job I would get in trouble if I did that.

^No. They are for everyone. It's one of those toys that people of all ages can enjoy playing with. It's a 3D puzzle. Adults like puzzles.
5/3/2016 8:57:41 PM
how is following a diagram a puzzle?
5/3/2016 9:09:27 PM
^Well you still have to dig through the pieces to find the correct part sometimes.
5/3/2016 9:14:32 PM
I mean, they're mostly for kids though
5/3/2016 11:41:24 PM
^But they are so much fun to play with.

What's the point of legos if you're just gonna build the thing once following the directions and then leave it?I thought the whole point of legos was to be creative and build imaginative shit.

I was more of a Construx kind of kid, i loved those things. There was also another set I played with some, it had tubes that connected together, and some mechanical pieces, but I don't remember the details very well or the name.[Edited on May 4, 2016 at 11:35 AM. Reason : ]

Legos are for kids. Build something with real materials, instead of lego blocks ya babies.
