"Dockterman watched unattended little girls playing with the doll, presumably through some kind of two-way mirror. In one session, for the pleasure of her peers, a 6-year-old speaks as if she’s the curvy doll. Here’s what she says: “Hello, I’m a fat person, fat, fat, fat.” Later, when an adult arrives, she calls the doll “a little chubbier.” Another child says she doesn’t want to hurt that Barbie’s feelings, so she spells it: “F-A-T.” A Mattel research head told Dockterman that, when adults weren’t in the room, focus-group girls often undressed the curvy dolls and laughed at them."

Thoughts? Did perfect body Barbie really mentally destroy all of you girls reading this? I had TMNT, G.I. Joe, and Masters of the Universe action figures. The fact that they had perfect bodies didn't mentally traumatize me. Maybe guys are different though. Isn't the average weight Barbie kind of counter productive in the Obama's fight against obesity?

B4C probably jerks off to naked barbies (but only the traditional ones.

I'd say Barbie's impossible measurements and all the other unrealistic body ideals were great for me.

Hating your own body all the time is way easier than having to worry about your personality and character.

I was always confused because action figures/dolls lack genitalia. WHY IS THERE STUFF HANGING BETWEEN MY LEGS?

Western society generally has higher expectations for women's appearance than it does for men's. That tends to explain why women have more body image issues than men, and thus why you would not feel as traumatized by GI Joe's six-pack and your (assumed for the point of discussion) lack thereof. I would imagine that, yes, Barbie's measurements are a reflection of the importance western society places on physical perfection for women.

Guys can get by without being traumatized by their body type as long as they don't have a 2-inch pecker.
Men are much shallower though so they expect a better outside appearance out of females.

i don't really get when people say "here comes PC america" because SI put a not super-model skinny girl on the cover. like...why the fuck does it matter? are people actually legitimately bothered because the girl on the cover of SI doesn't look exactly like all the other girls that have been on the covers in the past?

kinda like the barbie doll thing..it just doesn't bother me that the now make barbies with different body-types.

"PC" has become a catch all for anything conservatives don't like. It's the new Race Card.

I prefer an airbrushed skinny girl to an airbrushed fat chick any/every day of the week.

^Yeah no kidding. Anyway, I just read they actually have 3 covers this year, one for fat people, one for people who want to look at real models, and one for Ronda Rousey fans.

I realize it's airbrushed to hell, but Ashley Graham looks damn good in that SI cover picture. I bet you would hardly see any belly fat with her lying on her back.

This paragraph clearly demonstrates that you should exit this debate. If you have been this ignorant to the facts of how males and females are raised, expected to behave, and taught how they should feel, then you have no business participating in the debate.
