I drive an 09 Suzuki SX4 and the check engine light came one a few days ago. Took it to get read and the error codes were :

P0456 Evaporative Emissions Control System Leak Detected (Very Small Leak)
P0441 Evaporative Emission System Incorrect Purge Flow



a few questions. Does anyone know where this is located? Is this something I could repair on my own ?

My wife's father was a diesel engine mechanic in the marines so he's pretty handy around cars but doesn't have any specific knowledge of this valve...

Is it worth it to try and buy a replacement valve and stick it in? or is it in a place that'll be a huge pain in the ass and we should just get a shop to take care of it?


Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I have.,.. I was reading it sometimes just fixes itself for people but it's stayed on for a few days and atleast 1 tank refill. :x

Those codes can occasionally just be caused by a loose/bad gas cap. Beyond that, it wouldn't hurt to have the system smoke tested at a shop.

any thoughts on a price? I'd read about the cap as well io was thinking about taking it to autozone tomorrow and gettting the cel cleared and buying a new cap. just to see if that worked.

Not sure, it's diagnostic, so you'll probably be charged based on how long it takes for the tech to find the leak.

So am I insane?? I can't seem to find a place online to purchase the valve and change it.... I've found purge valves for almost every other Suzuki car model except mine. Help?

To start: I know nothing about suzuki sx4

From experience:
"very small" or "small" leaks are likely vacuum hoses rotted or similar. Usually when you leave the gas cap off you get "large leak". It could be a bad seal on the gas cap, but that is pretty rare.

The only real way to find the source of the leak is to smoke the system. If you are a DIY or crafty you can make a smoke tester out of a cigarette, plastic drink bottle, and a air compressor, and use that to find the leak. Otherwise, let some other tech fuck with searching for it. Hopefully thats a easy motor to get at.
