So we need a new, better place kicker. This thread will follow our search for next year's starting kicker. Post your suggestions for possible players that could do a better job than our current option.

I'll start the ballot off with this guy:

Just going to take a wild guess and say we play him at least through the end of this season because apparently building his confidence is more important than winning games. Not sure how missing kicks builds his confidence, but apparently the coaching staff seems to think so.

Hey, remember when people called me out for saying we should be recruiting another kicker less than a month ago in the recruiting thread? Good times.

Also, people thought he was better than Kiker. Idiots.

They said he makes them in practice. Which is complete bullshit, because there is no way this team practices kicking

How did we find this guy? He is from Michigan and here are his HS stats:

Yr FG/FGA Long Pct.
Sr. 11/18 49 61%
Jr. 4/14 52 29%
So. 9/19 47 47%
Tot. 24/51 52 47%

At State so far he is 3/9 (33%), 36 yards was the longest of his 3 makes.

I see that he was a 3 star Kicker and other than us, only the Air Force offered him a scholarship. How did he keep his spot on the HS team after going 4/14??

The only thing I can think of is that he is terminally ill and this was his 'Make-a-Wish'. Nothing else makes any sense.

Yea guys, the kicker is why we lost. It wasnt the injuries, the lack of defense, or coaching blunders

He's not a good kicker though.

The coaches learned from John Deraney that you don't ask one guy to kickoff, punt, and place kick.

Doesn't change the fact that Bambard sucks though.

I HATE HIM SO MUCH AND I HOPE THEY FIRE HIM AND HE HAS TO REFUND HIS PAYCHECKS AND HIS DOG DIES! (but seriously, he's been terrible so far. i assume one of the worst in the league?)

Maples only does kickoffs, so adding FG duties would not put him in the same role as Deraney.

For us to have a problem with our kicker reflects on the quality of our team. Another word...how hard is it to find a decent kicker?

^only one miss inside 40 yards that season...although it doesn't show his punting stats. i don't recall how he was as a punter.

Deraney was a solid college kicker. State's has been fairly fortunate to have competent kickers over the past ~15 years. Bambard is just on another level of terrible though.

our kicker is cool.
Texas State is really shitty. Missed 2 >30yards FGs. Missed PAT. All on already low scoring game.

This depresses me. THIS GOT HIM A SCHOLARSHIP!?! I wish in high school I would have put down the soccer ball the day the football coach came to the soccer field and was asking if anyone wanted to try out for kicker.

not sure about this guy's recruitment...but i think a lot of kickers will go to kicker-specific camps to be trained and then recruited and basically don't get scouted during games at all.

That punt from the Alabama kicker that stopped at the 1/2 yard line and made a hard left was the best put I have ever seen. He took a million years to get a kick off, but at Alabama you get that kinda time.

I check the recruiting boards weekly and always search for Kicker and get a sad face. We need someone good at that position asap. Worst case can we take a soccer player and teach them in the off season. Or what about that student that made the 30 yard FG for free tuition. Let's call him up!

from what i've read, we do intend to bring in a juco or grad transfer guy. haven't seen any names yet, but it's definitely something the staff is working on
