I live in VA and thought about going to this game until I realized realized where ODU was. Fuck the VA Beach area. As for this game. ODU barely got by Norfolk State, which got hammered by Rutgers, which is a pretty shit Big 5 team. State should be in business although ODU will be the best offense we've seen so far.
9/13/2015 9:44:57 PM
Yay. Another shit team to beat up on.
9/13/2015 10:00:03 PM
This game was scheduled solely for recruiting reasons.
9/13/2015 10:01:46 PM
IIRC we needed a home game last year and ODU did us a favor by giving us that game so we gave them a return game. Wake, UNC & VT will also be playing up there in the next few years, and State didn't really mind playing up there due to some getting some recruiting exposure in the region. That game at South Alabama is the one I'm not okay with, some kind of left over contract from the Lee Fowler era.[Edited on September 13, 2015 at 10:09 PM. Reason : tbdv]
9/13/2015 10:08:52 PM
Wow, this is an away game
9/13/2015 10:11:58 PM
http://hamptonroads.com/2015/04/nc-state-declined-request-play-friday-night-oduat least we had the sense to do that
9/13/2015 10:21:21 PM
We've got ODU next year too, we got 2 for 1.I thought somebody told me our OOC was so bad because of LSU pulling out, but that looks like it doesn't have anything to do with this year right? That was supposed to be 2017?
9/13/2015 10:28:47 PM
Even though LSU wasn't going to be this year, I think it started a bit of a domino effect, and a 2 for 1 with ODU was a result. South Alabama is definitely from the Fowler era. If we hadn't bought out of it, we might have opened at Central Michigan this year.
9/14/2015 12:34:03 AM
I believe the staff is not upset about playing in the Hampton Roads area. Trying to make in roads with recruits up there and such. I mean, probably not ideal but more along the lines of Debbie, whoever does the schedule and Doeren having a convo like "Would you mind going up there? Not really..."Now, the week after when we go down to Alabama...
9/14/2015 12:39:59 AM
I was very surprised we didnt buy out the South Alabama game, especially after we did buy out the Central Michigan road game; perhaps there was a belief that too many buyouts of return games would make it more difficult to schedule teams, particularly 2-for-1s, in the future. At one point we were scheduled to host Oklahoma State this year (and go to their place next year). I think Troy actually ended up filling that slot. It was never made clear who cancelled it, but it was presumed to be OSU because of the Big "XII" going to 9 conference games. LSU was supposed to be 2018/2020.
9/14/2015 12:57:34 AM
No one talking about OD's stadium? It seats about as many as PNC. But for real, they better not convert on 4th down like last year (5/6). That was bananas.[Edited on September 14, 2015 at 8:10 AM. Reason : engrish]
9/14/2015 8:09:45 AM
think i saw where we open as 16.5 point favorites. don't think i'll be able to watch this game...got a wedding to go to. hopefully it won't be close.

^, ^^ Try entering a ZIP for the TV market youre in rather than your actual zip. I entered my parents zip in Rocky Mount and it said it wasnt available, even though they get WRDC on Suddenlink. Entering different RM zips did indicate availability though.

9/14/2015 3:29:37 PM
first line i saw, i thought, was 15.5. if it's up to 18 ^ like you said, then it's been steadily creeping up over the last ~24 hours.[Edited on September 14, 2015 at 3:30 PM. Reason : i posted earlier ITT 16.5 favorites, so maybe that's what it opened at.]
9/14/2015 3:30:28 PM
Channel 28 (WRDC) on my DirecTV here in Raleigh. It's already in the programming guide.
9/14/2015 3:49:54 PM
Hell yes, I get to see a real game on this channel instead of some shit teams, or occasionally field hockey or some bull shit
9/14/2015 6:11:24 PM
TWC shows it on 10 (WRDC) in Garner so probably the same in Raleigh.
9/14/2015 6:24:37 PM
Add "ODU's biggest game in program history" to our resume. The line has moved up to 18
9/15/2015 11:12:40 AM
Any word on Barr?
9/15/2015 4:39:32 PM
USA game is at 8pm next saturday on ESPNEWS. BTW!
9/15/2015 4:44:39 PM
I won't get a chance to watch this guy but we better beat these clowns down. They're not a good team this year so last year is irrelevant. By looking at their stats their defense is garbage and Thornton, Samuels, and Dayes should have a field day with them.
9/15/2015 5:07:09 PM
They do have the leading rusher in the nation, granted in only two games against shitty teams.
9/15/2015 5:38:31 PM
I saw that Barr was day-to-day.
9/15/2015 6:04:37 PM
Battle of the unbeatens. LET'S DO THIS
9/15/2015 6:14:29 PM
Thornton is back? OH HELL YES.
9/15/2015 8:30:02 PM
I am wondering if the return of Shadrach will mess up the effectiveness of Dayes/Jaylen. Just worried if it will impact the offensive chemistry. Will be interesting to see how we use Shadrach. Hope we run a very high tempo attack subbing the two RBs and mixing in Jaylen.
9/16/2015 10:45:30 AM
Yeah, it sure is going to suck getting our best RB back.We need him for when we play teams with actual defenses.[Edited on September 16, 2015 at 10:48 AM. Reason : I don't think it will change anything with Samuels. Dayes will just play less.]
9/16/2015 10:47:26 AM
^ agreed. I think it will actually make Dayes more effective. IMO, the role he has been playing is less of his natural/best position than weve seen in the past. I do, however, wonder how DD is going to get Dayes, Samules, Shad busy and keep bringing Hines along. Clearly Nichols hasnt been getting much action even though he's been listed as the 2, so its not like there are extra snaps to give out. I anticipate our offense will stay vanilla until conference play, then he'll open up the playbook a little.
9/16/2015 10:57:49 AM
I think our offense will be fine. It was fine last year with all those players. I think the main thing you'll see is Dayes' workload reduced. Which is probably a good thing. You don't see many college RBs getting 25 carries every game for an entire year...so if we're able to keep Shad and Dayes both fresh, especially against tougher competition, that can only be a good thing IMO. Dayes is currently 8th in the nation in rush attempts. That's pretty high, and we've got the talent in the backfield to really spread the ball around and keep everybody's legs fresh. So you might see Dayes getting 10 carries instead of 25. And that'll be fine because there's not a drop off in talent. Samuels is sort of his own position...RB/FB/TE/WR hybrid and I don't think Shad will really cut into his workload at all.I would imagine Nichols won't get many touches...he did fumble last week on his only carry. And Gallaspy might ease into the #3 RB role instead of Nichols. Shad and Dayes are also different style backs. Dayes is more shifty while Shad is more of a power runner. THere's a place for both in the offense...especially if we're gonna run the ball 40+ times/game. [Edited on September 16, 2015 at 11:13 AM. Reason : d]
9/16/2015 11:10:41 AM
^^Umm Hines is a WR now, right?[Edited on September 16, 2015 at 11:31 AM. Reason : .]
9/16/2015 11:31:08 AM
Yeah. Hines has only ran the ball in jet sweeps and I don't think has even lined up in the backfield yet. We're using him as a slot receiver.
9/16/2015 11:37:05 AM
the problem is we got too many damn playmakers on offense.
9/16/2015 11:39:04 AM
I think Samuels still gets close to the same amount of touches - maybe slightly less in the red zone with Shadrach back though. Dayes will see less touches out of the back field, but might be a little more active in the passing game. Canada is going to have to be creative to get everyone touches, but he did a pretty great job of that last year.
9/16/2015 11:56:59 AM
^^ that better be sarcasm
9/16/2015 12:51:29 PM
^lol yeah...this is a really good "problem" to have. making sure all of our really good players get enough touches.
9/16/2015 12:55:29 PM
Eh, still think we use Samuels the same, we haven't even see the full playbook, Canada worked exclusively on sets to feature Samuels this summer per the coaching staff. He's going to be a steady player for us all year.Dayes will go down to 8-10 touches a game and Thornton will get the rest, similar to last year. Dayes doesn't need to take the beating of 15+ touches a game and works better as a change of pace anyways. I'm sure Shad will get some carries around the goal but I think Samuels and our TEs will continue to get featured in that area.Still expect very vanilla play-calling this week.
9/16/2015 2:12:02 PM
The team is using the indoor facility all week to prepare for the game because ODU's field is Field Turf and to pipe in crowd noise.
