Just had knee surgery last Friday. Second time having one on this knee (torn meniscus in 2003). Had knee cleaned of scar tissue, patella realignment, and microfracture surgery. Will probably be in a brace for the next 6-8 weeks It's been frustrating not being able to endure a normal routine (work, exercising, eating, etc). Really hoping I'll get back to as close to normal as possible by November/December!

Went wake boarding for the first time in 7 years this weekend. That combined with lots of alcohol and I am still sore from head to toe today at work.

last week I fell hard while wakeboarding and ruptured the tendon in my middle right toe that keeps it straightened out.

apparently this isn't something they fix. it actually doesn't hurt , but its weird seeing that toe all curled up and unable to extend.

I suspect I'll need up-close glasses in 5 years.

^^ I tore a tendon in the top of my left foot in high school.
4 small toes haven't bent or curled since then.

I spent 3 months dealing with severe pain on the side of my foot near the big toe. 7 doctors later, no one gave me any clue as to what was causing the pain other than "acute inflammation". Two rounds of prednisone, two cortizone shots, multiple types of anti-inflammatories, it finally went away after Thanksgiving (although I think time and staying off of it may have finally cured it).

Right before new years my other foot started hurting on my outside ankle. I tried stretching it and "walking it off", which has led to pain in my achilles (which I also tried to stretch and walk it off). Today I am using crutches because it hurts to put weight on it.

Yes, we are aging!
My daughter is getting bigger everyday, while I'm getting smaller (when people get old, they shrink)

Metabolism

I'm only 32 and I already have to exercise 4-5 times a week and eat healthy just to maintain my current weight. Five years ago I had to work just as hard to GAIN weight.

I'm turning 35 in two weeks. Time flies!
The day before yesterday, I went to centennial for a meeting and passed through where I lived for 4 years. So many memories!
The new Walgreen is completed already, right in front of Pearl, taking the place of AAA.

I can't understand what you are talking about.
They offer 20 meals for a very very low price deal last year, that's what I know.

Golden Dragon is rising, I think. I like Golden Dragon better now.

How did you fuck up your achilles?

I'm definitely getting more aches and pains as I get older. My calf muscle will tighten and pull more often. I'll have sporadic shooting pains in my knee or foot...but nothing consistent or painful enough for me to get it looked at. I'm just seeing it as a byproduct of getting older and remind myself that I need to stretch more before and after I run.

I'm still in very good shape, run a lot, and do lots of push-ups and pull-ups. I think once people start getting older, they get hurt trying to do stuff they did with ease when they were younger...mostly by continuing to play sports. I've had a ton of friends have bad knee injuries still playing in men's league basketball.

I miss the competitiveness of sports...but not enough to risk injury. I try to set personal health goals to satisfy my "competitive" streak. Not quite as fun as hitting jumpers or scoring goals, but I can't afford to be laid up with a torn ACL or achilles at this point in my life.

That's actually what I'm doing everyday now. Not a lot, but try to keep doing it everyday.
I also do hoops once a week. But in a very low level.

This is me, pretty much all physical activity I do is to be able to keep playing basketball bc when I can't play anymore I'll prob just get super depressed and fat. I keep saying I should take up yoga but keep not doing it. Any gangly, uncoordinated old people that have started yoga at 35 have advice? Did it help general muscle/joint/tendon health?

Also this thread reminds me of my favorite Louis ck bit:

shit, my dad started yoga at probably 55. he says it has done tons of good.

I'm on meloxicam (rx NSAID) every day for joint pain (shoulders, elbows...sometimes in wrists/hands). I thought for sure I was gonna have to have a surgery or two, but so far, the meloxicam is managing things satisfactorily.

^^ Old dudes pick up yoga all the time. It's definitely one of those ageless activities. My wife is a yogi. I've only done one class with her (it was at a brewery...pretty much only way she could get me to do it).

I'm not against it, I'm just perfectly fine and fit doing the shit that I do...and my shit is free. Yogi isn't cheap. With that being said, if my body starts to break down, I'll probably end up picking it up down the road.

Lower back has been hurting enough to be annoying the past few days since the weather turned.

^same here, though I think mine is mostly due to my shitty mattress. Guess I get to go shopping soon!

A little over 4 months since surgery and I'm still not released to run. Only really sense pain in kneecap when trying to extend (leg extensions) or bending leg while lounging with opposite leg. One legged squats are also kinda still painful to do in the sensitive microfractured area. I guess drilled holes in bone really need that time to heal. Otherwise, I've resumed most of my typical lower body workout routine, just using much lighter weights.

I really want to save up some cash and get stem cell therapy on my knees. They're fucked.

Oh, and yoga is great for you. Just do any number of the free online or free yoga channel work outs. Oh, I also like the P90X one for more of a workout.

Jiu jitsu probably isn't doing me any favors in terms of wear and tear either.

jbrick83 & synapse,

It was insertional tendonitis (where the tendon attaches to the heel). It was kind of an "over time" type of deal from running, it just got to the point I couldn't deal with it anymore - especially after I tripped & fell during a run. It started out as just some sensitivity on the heel where the tendon attaches, it got worse and worse over time. And yeah, my legs are very tight - I'm not at all flexible and previously was horrible with stretching however I'm going to be changing that from here on out to prevent injuries again.

I've went through PT, time in the boot, all that - nothing worked. Surgery was the only recourse. First surgeon fucked that up, currently healing from the second surgery. Its maddening, b/c to fully recover from this type of surgery takes about 9 to 11 months.

The surgeon I'm dealing with now is baller as fuck - dude has spent his entire career on foot & ankle and invented some new ankle replacement/reconstruction shit. One of the top docs for his field. PM me if you want his info
