bacon

i like it. it's good. in fact, i think it's great. but it seems like now every thing's gotta be bacon wrapped or topped with bacon. sometimes things are actually better with no bacon on them at all.

celiac disease =/= gluten intolerance in the sense that most people say, "Oh, I avoid bread because I'm gluten intolerant." Gluten intolerance is a myth. FODMAPs are the most likely culprit of what causes discomfort in people that claim to be gluten intolerant. And then there are those for which the entire thing is psychosomatic. You skipped out on eating a big mac everyday and feel better now that you've gone gluten free? You don't say? Must've been the gluten!

Celiac disease is very real and can be a devastating illness.

people who post pictures of words on twitter or instagram. like, it'll be some kinda of motivational phrase or maybe even a shitty joke written out...and people post pictures of it online. i just don't get it...why not just type out what the picture of the words says if you think it's something worth sharing on social media?

then again, i don't get probably 90% of what people post and do on social media.

5:45 is "quarter to 6". How is "quarter of" used and in what context? I have not heard it.

So some native speakers of English American say "quarter of 6" to refer to the time 5:45?

Wow, morons

It means "quarter of an/the hour", ie 15 minutes

I don't say it but it's really not that hard to grasp

6 pm is a point in time, not a whole hour. So when you say "quarter of 6" for 5:45, it makes no sense.

If you want to think of the whole hour between 5 pm and 6 pm, it is the 6th hour after noon. Looking at it that way, 5:45 is "three quarters of [the] 6[th hour]", not "quarter of 6". But giving time as an interval rather than as a point in time is moronic to begin with.

In the end, it is simple English.

Would of
Had of
Could of
Just add one more... quarter of.

lord help us when 0EP decides to listen to terrestrial radio and hears a disc jockey say something about "the top of the hour"

And your "would of" analogies are shit. It has nothing to do with people misusing "of" instead of "have". It has everything to do with vernacular treating "of" and "from" as the same thing. Kind of like all those morons from 20 countries that speak "Spanish" and have a double meaning of the word "de". What morons!

"Quarter of 6" = "quarter from 6"?

"From" in which direction? That's why we have "quarter till/to 6" and "quarter past 6", to indicate direction.

"Top of the hour" is scientifically and logically correct. "Hour" is an interval, so when you are on "top" of it, you are at its beginning.

English is my second language but it is also my best language. Moreover, of all the five languages I can speak, it is the only language in which I have full/native fluency in speaking, reading/comprehending, and writing.

Now you are going to tell me I don't have native fluency in English because I think "quarter of 6" to refer to the time 5:45 is incorrect, right?

In this case, yes. From, in the "direction", of approaching it in time. As in, 15-minutes before 6 o'clock. I agree it's a dumb saying, and I don't use it. But I don't understand why you seem to have so much of an issue understanding it.

And while I'm sure you are fluent in speaking and writing it, I'm not so sure you are fluent in comprehending it, as is evidenced by this petty discussion.

[Edited on September 3, 2015 at 12:31 AM. Reason : plus you just used the word "moreover". Nobody uses that shit.]
