Good riddance.

Hopefully that doesn't mean you'll be spending more time here...
7/2/2015 9:47:41 PM
Who said I ever left you?
7/2/2015 9:53:04 PM
Not I.]
7/2/2015 10:03:20 PM
It's so sad when a messageboard has an adversarial relationship with its owner.
7/2/2015 10:06:38 PM
Making more shit up I see.
7/2/2015 10:14:30 PM
the FPH stuff was just internet drama and not really that big of a deal beyond bigoted assholes. This round of drama seems pretty suspect though and will provide for a better round of entertainment tomorrow when all the neckbeards are up in arms.

7/2/2015 10:23:19 PM
Daaaamn. I didn't realize it was this messed up.
7/2/2015 10:32:48 PM
subreddits are shutting down by the second. They must have really liked that girl that got fired. This looks like their Digg moment.http://voat.co is the new alternative, but their servers aren't keeping up, as usual. [Edited on July 2, 2015 at 10:38 PM. Reason : .]
7/2/2015 10:35:18 PM
Wait, they aren't shutting down. They're all going private. Most importantly its not the admin's doing it, but the moderators. So its basically a Reddit protest.
7/2/2015 10:39:46 PM
Exactly. The moderators have been pretty unhappy with the ownership for a while now. If the protest doesn't get any response they'll probably start quitting en masse and let it go to the dogs.
7/2/2015 10:41:30 PM
What is reddit?
7/2/2015 10:48:57 PM
Website with a layout from 1992
7/2/2015 10:51:16 PM
It's another failed fark clone.
7/2/2015 10:51:24 PM
Was gonna say it doesn't really affect me but r/photography is gone. Tomorrow will be interesting.
7/2/2015 10:53:17 PM
I hope r/writingprompts disappears forever. Their latest post on the frontpage was "The Whitehouse is under attack!!". It's like car horns on radio commercials.
7/2/2015 10:56:11 PM
The mod of r/TIFU says they are only staying up because they're afraid that if they protest they'll quickly be replaced by r/confession or r/offmychest on the frontpage and they will lose their IMMENSE power as mods. LOL Dance puppets dance.
7/2/2015 11:00:56 PM
7/2/2015 11:07:53 PM
I'm glad I'm so ignorant to reddit that this won't affect me in the slightest
7/2/2015 11:41:08 PM
slow and steady wins the race
7/2/2015 11:46:21 PM
Seems like there's enough opportunity to just open new subreddits if they stay shut down.It does seem like whatever reason they fired that person for, they handled it really poorly.
7/2/2015 11:55:34 PM
Someone give us a TWW analogy for this. Is this like EMCE gets fired so marko starts locking topics left and right or something?
7/2/2015 11:58:04 PM
7/3/2015 12:09:30 AM
I was wondering what was up. I tried to go to a CliffyB AMA, and it was private.Fortunately, I know black people in real life so I don't actually need /r/blackpeopletwitter. I should be good without Reddit.Important aside: The Internet is crazy segregated, and that alone is very fascinating to observe. But, also, if you don't regularly text with, follow, etc...people from all walks of life, you're missing out on some excellent LOLs.WORLDS OF LOLS!(And not the mean, judgey LOLs that you get from looking down on trashy extended family members.)
7/3/2015 12:30:03 AM
At least r/thewolfweb/ is still up.
7/3/2015 12:34:17 AM
Thank goodness!

The girl that got fired was responsible for reading aloud questions submitted by users to celebrities and typing their responses, since apparently most celebrities can't read. Yesterday's special guest was Jesse Jackson, and the questions were brutal, comparing his business model to that of Al Capone and asking about the son he abandoned. She read the questions to him and dutifully typed his sprawling incomprehensible answers. No one's sure if Jackson threatened to sue or if the reddit management was just unhappy that she failed to censor the questions(they've been courting major advertising sponsorship lately and the dark undertones of the site are undesirable.) In any case they fired her and the mods of hundreds of subreddits suddenly realized they were volunteering massive amounts of their time to a corporate-owned business that couldn't care less about them.
7/3/2015 12:45:04 AM
I could not care any less.
7/3/2015 12:54:36 AM
She was a little more than a reader, though I bet her job title/description was probably as much. For a site that suffered a lot of recent PR issues, she was supposedly one of the few employees who did a good job of fostering good will between admins and users. Her termination, barring anything criminal, was possibly the stupidest thing they've done in a while.I don't think Pao deserves quite the shit piling she's received, but I'd still like to see her go.
7/3/2015 12:57:36 AM
It probably has little to do with the firing, and more about the volunteers and users feeling that they're being exploited and manipulated.
7/3/2015 1:02:34 AM
who knew reddit mods were so stupid

r/KerbalSpaceProgram was down for like 12 hours. it's back now. that and r/space are the only things i use reddit for.
7/3/2015 4:07:29 PM
Other than a slightly higher amount of garbage content, i don't notice much difference at this point.
7/3/2015 5:28:29 PM
in solidarity i'm shutting tww down
7/3/2015 5:57:07 PM
In all seriousness, can someone warn me by e-mail shortly before TWW closes?I can get obsessive about reading all the posts, and I'm not tryna freak out when they're gone.
7/3/2015 8:39:26 PM
TWW is in the cloud. It can't die
7/4/2015 8:55:10 AM
So Pao is outAnd gawker says the reason is...Men. Pissing off the entire user base, and moderators, of an organization that relies heavily on both, on multiple occasions, had nothing to do with it.
7/10/2015 8:37:07 PM
Me and thousands of others weren't pissed off. The children screamed pretty loud though. And yeah, considering that the comments often accompanying said recent pissbaby tantrums often exhibited sexist and racist overtones, sure, you could say "the reason is...Men." Worth noting she was not responsible for the AMA mishap, and did not fire Victoria.Constant barrage of hate speech and death threats aside, she ostensibly resigned because "the board asked [her] to demonstrate higher user growth in the next six months than [she] believe[s] [she] can deliver while maintaining reddit’s core principles."This news is pretty disheartening. Hopes for reddit becoming less of a shithole vanish.[Edited on July 10, 2015 at 8:58 PM. Reason : .]
7/10/2015 8:57:56 PM
And yet there were thousands of others who were pissed off that weren't over the top sexists, racists, whatever making death threats and being generally repugnant human beings. But everyone's going to pretend that it was only those few loud insane pieces of shit to save face.
7/10/2015 9:05:08 PM
I never said she didn't piss people off. I said she didn't piss off the entire userbase. Not even close. I also said a large portion of those she pissed off are sexists and racists at the very least, which is pretty much a fucking fact considering fph and the astronomical upvotes and gold that bigoted comments directed toward her have received. Not to mention the chance that the whole AMA fiasco was possibly caused by - you guessed it! - racism in the Jesse Jackson thread.
7/10/2015 9:35:18 PM
Yes funny the sexist men wanted the poor defenseless female CEO to resign after the company she runs shit all over the mods and then showed their utter lack of appreciation of the community by firing a community favorite who also happened to be... a woman?I wish the media would realize that not all extremists represent everybody in a situation and frame the situation as such. Most protesters were not violent in Baltimore/Ferguson, just like many people who support flying the Confederate flag are not KKK loving racists and most people who are disgruntled about the way the reddit/Victoria situation was handled are not woman hating assholes with an axe to grind against Ellen Pao.
7/10/2015 9:38:20 PM
jesus christ she did not fire Victoria. your rant about the media is rendered pretty silly when you spout sensationalized bullshit like that. i'm also not sure what Victoria being a woman has to do with anything. Did Pao supposedly discriminate based on gender? do you only bring up gender when it's convenient for your narrative? Pao on the other hand, has received tons of gendered harassment."not all reddit" are woman hating assholes but a pretty fucking large number of them are, e.g. 150,000 in FPH which is largely rooted in 'woman-hating' and 120,000 in TRP which is, just, woman hating. And I guarantee folks from those are among the loud voices of the past couple of weeks, considering the former's axe to grind.
