I was a witness and first to assist till paramedics arrived to this accident this evening. Ford SUV traveling about 45 mph (in 35 zone) ran a 4 way stop sign. He clipped the front of a Honda and rolled the SUV, frontward roll, end over end with a twist for good measure. Both vehicle drivers are ok, but shaken up. Honda driver was emotional wreck, and Ford driver was totally confused. He was talking to his girlfriend on the phone and playing with his GPS, and says he didn't even see the stop sign. There are also flashing red lights at this intersection. The front bumper is gone on the Honda. The left rear CV axle for the ford ended up about 30 feet ahead of it, in the oncoming traffic lane. The wheel/ hub assembly broke free and hit the stop sign during the roll. The Ford driver had only owned his vehicle for 3 days.

But wasn't the Honda stopped?

What does this have to do with seat belts?I'm not strapping some garbage across my chest for no reason. This summer is hot. It's hot as hell.
6/23/2015 11:15:37 PM
If you drive without a seatbelt you're an idiot.
6/23/2015 11:17:37 PM
The driver of the ford would have been jacked up if it weren't for his seat belt. His car did a full rotation on two different axis. The title wouldn't let me say till the plane comes to a complete stop. Because he was airborn.Honda stopped, made it part way into the intersection, then slammed on the brakes. If that driver hadn't of been paying attention, she would have been t-boned and this would have been a lot worse.[Edited on June 23, 2015 at 11:21 PM. Reason : .]

I hear you guys that seat belts are awesome and whatnot. But maybe this thread should be about not being on your GPS/phone while speeding through an unfamiliar area.
6/23/2015 11:23:13 PM
Nope. Wear a seatbelt.
6/23/2015 11:24:29 PM
says the guy that routinely stands up on a 40mph train while maybe holding a strap or pole and thats it
6/23/2015 11:26:01 PM
Oh please. The train is moving on a track. If you can't realize what you're saying is stupid then I can't help you. Yes. you're riding around in a steel container. I'm not going to make you but I will judge you.[Edited on June 23, 2015 at 11:33 PM. Reason : But]

Let the record show that Dentaldamn thinks 10s of thousands of promising, bright school children who ride a school bus are idiots.
6/23/2015 11:38:59 PM
Children are dumb. I did just ride the bus and there are no seat belts. Hypocritical? Maybe but I really don't care

A friend died as a result of many stupid decisions, including not wearing a seat belt.He lives next to my parents on a big cul-de-sac (really he was more there friend than mine) and they were all celebrating another neighbor's birthday. They got really drunk and his wife and another neighbor decide to turn the car on to listen to music while partying in the garage.Next thing everyone's in the car jamming out with now dead-guy behind the wheel. He gets the idea that they should just cruise around the cul-de-sac and starts up the ignition. He peels out of his driveway, does one lap around the circle and then floors it up the street. He's not going highway speeds or anything, but still about as fast as he can for a 300 yard dash. His tire slips off the road, he starts the crazy panic wheel jerk and the car goes straight into the ditch on the other side. That's when it starts to roll. 2 or 3 times, with the drivers door flying open on at some point. He's thrown out of the car like a ragdoll and lands on the lawn. The car comes to a stop, upside down, on top of him.My parents found out later that the report said he was most likely killed instantly when the car landed on him and broke his neck. Everyone else in the car walked away.It took 3 minutes to go from happy fun times in his garage to dieing about 500 feet from where his children were sleeping. One of the guys in the car had to go get dead guys kids out of bed and take them back to his house since their mother, now widow, was also in the car and had to accompany her husband's body.Don't drive drunkAlways wear your seatbelt

i'm confused about the thread title, did someone unbuckle their seatbelt before stopping and then getting into that accident?
6/24/2015 11:35:46 AM
I am one of those drivers that requires everyone in my car to wear a seatbelt. I don't care who you are, where you sit, or how old you are. If you are in my car, you wear a seatbelt. Not only do I not want to have to deal with your death, but I also don't want you to endanger me or my kids when your body goes flying around the car in the event of a crash.

^ This. A friend of mine, well before I met him, was in an accident and was not wearing a seatbelt in the back seat. He flew forward and impaled his face on the rearview mirror and would have lost his eye if he hadnt already blown it out with a bb gun when he was a kid.....
6/24/2015 12:54:48 PM
There are adults that think its ok/cool to not wear a seat belt???
6/24/2015 12:57:36 PM
Yep - "I'm in the backseat, I'm fine" and "If you're over 16, you don't have to wear one." Are the most common excuses I hear.

I feel weird driving a car without my seat belt.I thought that was strange, but I've found most people feel the same way.But I do take a bit longer to put it on in the summertime.I'm also not nearly as uppity about it as you people.
6/24/2015 3:28:32 PM
^^Sounds like excuses to not wear a condom.

I don't think she could see him coming, because of the cars that were stopped to turn.
