So, what other over hyped sporting events have turned out to be a total flop like the "Mega Fight" tonight?I guess you could argue Germany vs Brazil 2014 World Cup? A 7-0 win for the Germans turned out to be nothing too exciting. Brazil didn't have their greatest team ever at the last World Cup either.

^I don't know if you can say that. The triple crown is hard to win. I remember when Duke won 7 out of 8 ACC Tournaments, or something like that. The one year they got to play UNC in the final and were up 26 on UNC at the half. Duke started the second half with the ball and ran about 20 seconds off of the clock before they even tried to do anything. UNC didn't even come out and pressure. They just stood there. That couldn't have been too exciting for the neutral fan who wanted to watch "The Greatest Rivalry in Sports!"

^^^It's about letdowns on over-hyped events that turned out to be boring ...not just recurring letdowns.

I don't recall the Brazil-Germany game being that hyped. It was also a semi-final. 2005 Orange Bowl comes to mind ... Southern California-Oklahoma, 55-19. And Oklahoma was a slim Vegas favorite IIRC.

A LOT of the superbowls but they've been pretty good lately

it's professional wrestling, but this was pretty awful. pretty much the end for WCW. I don't know who conceived/gave the green light to this outcome.]

wow, that was horrible, even for wrestling

probably some huge letdown in cricket that 1 billion Indians cared about, since you're talking about sports than American's don't care baoutalso if last night's fight was such a huge letdown (it wasn't a great fight), that' partially your fault for having grandiose expectations. this would've been the fight of the century if it happened 5 or 6 years ago. not in 2015 though[Edited on May 3, 2015 at 5:48 PM. Reason : .]

^I'm actually not upset about last night. I knew what was going to happen. A lot of people were disappointed though, but that is mainly because they were either casual boxing fans, or don't ever watch boxing. If they had fought 5 years ago I don't know that it would have been much different. Floyd didn't have some drastic change in his fighting style over the last few years.

Shouldn't non-fans of teams actually remember the events? ^ that one long with the random Duke-UNC game??? Cmon.I did like the Dan-Dave one. I remember all those shitty commercials, though barely.

How was this fight a "flop"? EVERY sports analyst on ESPN the last month was calling this fight to go exactly like it did. This fight went to script more than the 1st round of the NFL draft did. You can say it was the most predictable event in sports history, but I think everyone knew this was a money grab by 2 past-their-prime boxers.

I guess I should add the arrival of David Beckham to MLS was a big let down in year 1.They brought out the red carpet and tons of celebrities went to the Home Depot Center for his first game with the Galaxy which was an exhibition vs Chelsea. He sat on the bench most of the game and all ESPN wanted to do was turn the camera away from the game and interview celebrities who had probably never been to a game before. Then everyone started cheering when LA was going to sub in a player, but quit cheering because they realized it wasn't David Beckham coming in. He did get a few minutes in that game though. However, that was followed by all of the other MLS teams forcing people to buy mini packs to get tickets vs LA. Beckham was hurt though and didn't play in a lot of those away games. Some upset fans even held up signs that said "Bench it Like Beckham." I'm just thankful LA lost in the US Open Cup before they had to come to Cary. The Railhawks said over the PA at a game that if LA wins their next game David Beckham will come to town. That wouldn't have happened though. Neither Beckham, nor the Galaxy's US National team players would have played in that game.

Brazil 1-7 Germany was not boring at all. It was totally awesome. A complete Brazilian meltdown in front of their fans, with eight fun goals scored.

Dale Earnhardt's 2001 winston cup season. Coming off a 2nd place finish in the points the year before, hopes were high for a record 8th championship. His 57th place finish was a monumental let down to Dale fans. /worstpersonintheworld

How about the Broncos/Seahawks Super Bowls as an honorable mention? Historic offense against a historic defense. Offense completely manhandled. That was a disappointment.
