I have been following this on all the news sites for a year or so, and finally bit the bullet and ordered some. Anyone else tried this stuff? Thoughts?
4/15/2015 1:43:50 PM
I don't really like the idea of meal replacements. Reminds me too much of the humans in Wall-E.
4/15/2015 1:56:12 PM
Is it made out of people?
4/15/2015 2:25:27 PM
oh my god you are soooooooooooooo funny haha
4/15/2015 3:50:44 PM
i haven't watched your youtube video but i'm considering it
4/15/2015 3:50:47 PM
i looked at itdon't see how it is different from many other meal replacements?* rice protein? that's not a complete protein.* first ingredient is sunflower oil? ummm, no thanks.* no breakdown of PUFA and MUFA. are they hiding high PUFA content?* if we are supposed to have 4 a day and nothing else, needs 50% more fiber.
4/15/2015 5:24:08 PM
I've never fucking gotten itYeah, let me willfully deprive myself of the pleasure of eatingWhy don't I chop my balls off, too, while I'm at it
4/15/2015 11:57:05 PM
^ I am with you there, but it would be good to have something like that on hand for times when one is just too damn busy to prepare anything decent. I am going through a period like that now for the past couple of weeks and wish I had something like that, but as I said, I am not convinced by the nutrition info and ingredients and require something better. Having said that, I wouldn't mind having it for short periods of time, but being a student, can't really afford it. Oh well, about to graduate anyway.
4/16/2015 12:45:05 AM
My co worker ordered it but the back log was so long they were gonna charge him for his second order before he even received his first or something like that so he just cancelled and got a refund.
4/16/2015 9:06:28 AM
Coworker of mine tried it for a week. He reported lower energy levels, and some of the foulest smelling farts he's ever encountered in his life.I wonder why the company would call it soylent though. Obviously people are going to associate it with the movie.
4/16/2015 9:08:40 AM
Of course they are going to associate it with the _book_. This was started as a nerdy sort of thing by a Software Engineer and the name was a joke. Its supposed to be for mega-coding sessions when you want something quick without interrupting workflow. Essentially was created as a replacement for shotgunning Coffee or Mountain Dew. The marketing has been altered because it moved away from the original creator who got it crowd-funded and towards a corporation running things.
4/16/2015 10:17:19 AM
^^They solved the gas problem with v1.4. Haven't had a single fart so far
4/20/2015 7:19:00 PM
I watched one of noen's youtube videos once. sweet fuck."YEAH THIS IS JUST SOMETHING I WHIPPED UP OVERNIGHT FOR THE VIDEO" you don't need to lie, dude
4/20/2015 8:49:34 PM
^????
4/20/2015 10:39:21 PM
please post a link to the youtube video
4/22/2015 12:01:27 AM
It's crazy to me in the era of "sugar is toxic" and $15 sandwiches with homemade ham made by hipsters this is a thing. Slim fast doesn't seem like it'd be cool to the tech class.
4/23/2015 10:29:56 AM
The stuff i've read about it says you'll be horrible to be around for a few days, then your body gets used to it and you recover. I'm interested to hear your experience, though.
4/23/2015 7:14:36 PM
How'd this work out?

I came across the website of another meal replacement a few weeks ago but lost the site... it was far healthier than Soylent, and I really wanted to try it
8/3/2015 1:52:33 PM
Soylent Update 3:
8/10/2015 1:14:10 PM
I don't remember you having such a southern accent. Is that new?

You do realize those articles are from a year and two years ago respectively and are on version 1.0 and 1.1 which bears almost no resemblance to version 1.5 today. no more gas, no more oil mixing, better shelf life, easier digestion to name just a few. Most of the quips and qualms with Soylent are based on the very first version.
8/11/2015 4:45:03 PM
8/11/2015 6:12:25 PM
So this is slimquick marketed to fat neckbeards? Love it. Also, are you holding that girl hostage Noen? She has all the enthusiasm of an ISIS captive (and a lopsided face).
8/11/2015 7:55:41 PM
^^ Not until late October, and it won't replace v1.5They will continue selling a powder version, as well as the liquid version. It will be interesting to see how they handle version numbering going forward though.^Not even remotely similar ot slimquick / slimfast or any other diet drink. Soylent provides 2000 calories per day and full nutrition. You aren't going to lose weight unless you just cut calories. It also has a fraction of the sugar. Neckbeards eat shitty food, which this is not. Also it's her first time on camera, she was nervous. I thought she did a good job though
8/11/2015 10:08:51 PM
so your tits got bigger than hers on the excellent nutritional knowledge you have?
8/11/2015 10:11:32 PM
Are they catering this to alcoholics who would rather drink all day than eat anything? Personally I'd rather eat food.
8/11/2015 10:15:33 PM
^^My fatassness is due to lack of execution / willpower, not lack of knowledge. It isn't expensive or shitty. Cost per calorie, it's about as cheap as you can get for a balanced diet ($2.00 per meal).I don't *think* it's healthy. I know it's healthy. The ingredients and nutrition are easily viewed. Unless you eat 100% from-scratch, from-raw meals, I doubt you're going to do any better nutritionally speaking.https://www.soylent.com/product/powder/ for ingredients. They don't hide anything. It's probably the most transparent food product sold in terms of it's makeup and processing.^ I tend to use it for breakfast and occasionally for a snack alternative, or a meal on the go when I would have gotten some shitty fast food instead. It's nearly impossible to actually replace ALL your food with it (which is the point of the video above )[Edited on August 11, 2015 at 10:39 PM. Reason : .]
8/11/2015 10:38:40 PM
didnt watch the video above, watched the one about paper mache tastei'm not usually starving in the mornings anyway. i usually eat 2 meals per day.
8/11/2015 10:40:15 PM
So you are lazy and unmotivated, but you're not stupid? Right.
8/11/2015 10:47:48 PM
^Me either, but smaller meals throughout the day are better for you, and a small meal in the morning is definitely better than nothing at all.^Correct.
8/11/2015 10:58:27 PM
I am not a breakfast person either. But I will pick up some nuts or pork cracklings. Mmmm fat.

8/17/2015 11:16:23 AM
IIRC, the benefits of eating many smaller meals per day are undefinable (with a bias towards slightly-better-for-you, in theory); however, people tend to eat many more calories per day using such methods when they are not in a scientific study (i.e. they are free to eat whatever they want), and it typically ends up in weight gain.
8/17/2015 11:56:48 AM
i've read conflicting things about meals vs grazing and breakfast.
8/17/2015 12:38:39 PM
My dietitian pressed upon me the importance of eating whole, solid foods for optimal health and weight. According to her studies, liquid meal replacements don't trigger the satiety cues that keep you from ingesting excess calories.
8/17/2015 1:12:26 PM
And Soylent responds: http://blog.soylent.com/post/126888496882/soylent-is-compliant-with-california-propositionAs I figured, it's a non-profit trying to get news headlines for a non-issue. Imagine that, a California health initiative that is so stringent it's effectively meaningless. I'll keep drinking soylent, thanks though
8/17/2015 1:53:56 PM
Doesn't soy have estrogen and cause issues with males if consumed excessively ?
8/17/2015 4:34:04 PM
Lol there is no soy in it
8/17/2015 4:58:59 PM
8/18/2015 1:59:38 PM
I mean with as healthy as Noen looks in that video, why not trust his judgement?
8/18/2015 3:30:28 PM
8/18/2015 3:41:53 PM
^ I checked this https://www.soylent.com/product/powder which shows rice as the source of protein. Are they switching to soy for the 2.0 which is not out yet?So I checked. 2.0 has switched to soy protein, at least the pre-made bottled version, as the powder version is not on the site yet. The current 1.5 version (powder) uses rice protein.[Edited on August 18, 2015 at 6:39 PM. Reason : ]
8/18/2015 6:22:33 PM
^Yep. I actually have a pretty bad intolerance to soy, so I won't be using the liquid version. And yes, the founder is becoming Howard Hughes weird.
8/18/2015 7:35:54 PM
So will the 2.0 powder version continue to have rice protein?Cuz if not, and the only choice they offer is soy protein, that's not good, and their sales might plummet.Ideally they should offer the choice of both proteins in both versions. If liquid only with soy, and powder only with rice, why? Doesn't make sense at all, logical or business sense.[Edited on August 18, 2015 at 9:44 PM. Reason : ]
