Since I've moved into my current place (in August) the water pressure has been on a gradual decline. And it's now reached a point where showers are more irritating than satisfying: there's just a trickle of water falling onto me, with no sensation of its being projected.

And this is definitely an issue with the apartment-wide water supply, rather than just my showerhead, because the bath-faucet and even the kitchen sink run like shit too.

The actual level of pressure is inconsistent - sometimes it'll suddenly change, even while I'm taking a shower - but the average level and range have been slowly decreasing since I've moved in.

So I'd like to know
1. What's causing this shit, and
2. What can I do about it.

1. I'm no plumber. I half-suspect, though, that my landlord (a big leasing company which rents primarily to college students) has been slowly turning a dial somewhere so that I get less and less water (they pay my water bill.) I take two showers and a bath every day, so I use lots of water: and maybe they're just taking steps to counteract that, It's also possible that it's just a mechanical problem. But the decrease coincided with my moving into the place (somebody else lived here before.)

2. How best to handle this. I know that high-pressure showerheads exist, but I've used them before and that's not going to be entirely satisfactory even if the pressure stays at the current level (which I doubt will happen). Also, fucking hell, I want the water pressure that was present when I moved into the goddamned place.

So, gave any of you had experience with a similar problem? And how did you cope with it? Having to take a weak shower in the morning sucks a fat dick.

What. The. Fuck.

I'd turn down the water on you too. Seek help, and not about plumbing.

it doesn't seem that exorbitant...I take a shower in the morning, a shower when I get home from the gym, and then a bath around 10. I'm a sweaty bastard and I like to immerse myself in hot water, what can I say.

A) shower at the gym .... B) take an occasional bath C) don't get your water turned off...

and yah ... it is that exorbitant

correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't water pressure have to do with the proximity to the water tower and the amount of water in the tower (unless it's pumped through an accelerator for lack of a better word)?

low water pressure is annoying as fuck. I lived in a place for three years where it felt like I was being pissed on by my shower. I always check that now before I rent / buy a place.

in general yes ... unless the landlord, like he assumes, is taking measures to decrease the available flow to his apartment

You know another option ... if he is decreasing your water, you could just offer to pay the bill and reopen the line

yeah I definitely need to chat with the landlord, and I would be willing to pay the water bill myself..but I'm not sure they'd admit "Yeah, we've been decreasing your water-supply without consulting you."

also, I totally checked the pressure before I signed the lease (having experienced this shit before) and it was fine. that's what makes me suspect somebody's just turning a dial somewhere.

or better yet, just offer to pay the difference over the cap for the average usage in the apartment or something. I've heard of apartment buildings and HOAs enforcing that anyway

yah I'd just have a casual "hey the water pressure has really gone to shit, can you have a plummer come take a look?" chat and take it from there... if it comes up that your bill his higher than others then just offer to pay the difference.

it's not unreasonable for either side, and seems like a pretty appropriate compromise, especially if you're willing to pay the difference.

2 showers and a bath per day is re-goddamn-diculous

If you are not responsible for paying for water, as in it's a cost your landlord incurs and is responsible for, then I wouldn't be surprised if your landlord is using some form of flow limiter for your residence. Just like AT&T says you have unlimited data, but really they cap the bandwidth to unusable levels after you reach a certain point.

Go talk to your landlord and see what's up.

I really think showering at the gym could fix this entire issue....

I really had no idea that my washing-habits were so extreme. that makes this situation a lot easier to understand.

okay, so this is good advice. I'll go chat with the landlord, mention that my water-pressure sucks, and take it from there. my only concern is that the "landlord" is a big huge corporation, so the people whom I'll have access to might be too lowly-placed to give me info or make special arrangements. but what the hell, it can probably be worked out.

^ the gym showers aren't reliably warm...it's ridiculous. and this is a gym at a major university.

you need to find out who your facility manager/ maintenance guy is and just ask them directly

what kind of place is it? is it possible that you don't have your own water meter?

Yeah sounds like you just need to start by letting someone know. It could be an actual problem that they arent aware of rather than them intentionally screwing you over.

showering twice a day is understandable if you gym at night

but the added bath is just unnecessary and weird. and gross. baths are gross ok. sitting in your own balls and ass water.

^^ I enjoy a warm bath at the end of a long day. if you find that unnecessary and weird and gross, fine. I find it pretty delightful, though.

it's worth pointing out, by the way, that when you're in a pool/Jacuzzi, you're swimming in everybody else's ass and ball and vagina water, too. I hope you keep that in mind on those occasions.

Baths aren't for washing they are for relaxing. You shower first then draw a bath.

Baths are gross, the end.

Enjoy soaking in your ass soup.

You should invest in a hot tub so you can at least soak in hot ass soup in style.
