Never knew about the theatrical release requirement to be eligible for an Oscar. Until now, direct to video movies were no where near Oscar caliber, but it'll be interesting to see if the Academy changes this policy somewhere down the road.

anyone check it out yet? SPOILERS belowStrong performances but the story lacked a bit of direction. They did make a great point about the mentality of child soldiers and giving a great exposition on the emotional toll and psychological effects of it but they completely left out the war and the other side of the story. Which is fair since the story mainly focused on one child soldier. The kid that played Agu knocked it out of the park though. I loved the on screen presence he has towards the end of the movie, it really hits home right about there. Idris Elba as usual gave a stellar performance as well. Sad film but overall I liked it. Be prepared for a slow burner though. Very heavy topic for Netflix to take on but overall I like the movie. Will be interesting to see how it will fair at the oscars, I believe the child deserves one but maybe the movie itself doesn't.

I agree with the good performances but lacking story. I got bored with it in the 2nd half of the movie.

Just saw this, and I thought this was pretty good. Very heavy subject matter, pretty depressing. The kid was great, supposedly they found him in Africa on a soccer field.
