My opinion:if it's private property, the owner gets to decide.for public property, I'd agree with the author:

You'll hear no objections from me as long as people aren't actually recreating on top of grave sites, but it seems some think they should be able to treat the entire space as a park, which I think is wrong.

cemeteries are what started public parks, they are related and intertwined. Our first public parks were cemeteries. I don't think it's disrespectful for a cemetery to be used like a public park, they are even called memorial parks now[Edited on January 23, 2015 at 3:20 PM. Reason : i don't think the article gives that point enough attention]

Cemeteries are a huge waste of land. Not to say there aren't other, and perhaps larger, wastes of land, but cemeteries are definitely a waste of land.

^ so, kickball and picnics on top of graves?

^^Or just stop burying people in the ground. One of the most bizarre things we do as humans. There is nothing magical about a cemetery. Dead people don't care if we play soccer above their graves.^[Edited on January 24, 2015 at 2:59 PM. Reason : a]

I understand that some people might not be comfortable with it and I respect their opinion. But I think it's a great way to bring life into a place where the dead are remembered. If i were to ever die (unlikely) I would be happy if i knew people were enjoying themselves around my resting place.

either.

I understand but the City Council needs to stay aware of the possible hazards relating to cemetery parks. At least once annually on October 31, cold dead hands arise from the grave and grab the ankles of any passersby. This is obviously a terrible idea and could open up the floodgates of Halloween litigation for known defects in the premises.

I like the idea of a tree urn. Would have no problem with people climbing on me. Prefer not to be chopped down and turned in the firewood though. Especially after already being cremated.https://urnabios.com/product/

we should take tree urns a step further and follow the example set by Pequeninos on Lusitania

I want my urn to become a fruit tree.Or walnut...[Edited on January 24, 2015 at 3:40 PM. Reason : ]

This makes sense. I agree with the author of the piece. If you think about it, as time and humanity both approach infinity, the world, having only a finite amount of land to turn into cemeteries, will have to start using that land space for multiple purposes anyway.better to start now and get used to it, tbh.
1/24/2015 4:07:08 PM
Agreed jcg15. We are running out of land quick!!!

I'm cool with that if you're picnicking with hot stripper girl from the gym.]
