http://www.bendbulletin.com/business/2805824-151/cars-new-feature-fake-engine-noiseSo the new Eco-Boost Ford Mustang plays artificial engine sounds through its stereo speakers. Isn't that the opposite of what a muscle car buyer would want?? (that is who they are targeting with this)
1/23/2015 12:16:27 PM
BMW is doing it on more than just the i8 - it's on all of their M models now isn't it? it's on at least a few of them - ford has been doing this for a while as well - this isn't brand new news

I don't like the ideabut what makes it even worse is that you're the only one that can hear it. I don't want it to sound nice to me and have some shitty engine noise blaring at everyone else
1/23/2015 1:13:44 PM
I know the Focus ST has a baffle or something that opens at higher RPMs that directs sound from the intake manifold into the cabin. (Ford calls it the sound symposer) Maybe not quite as bad sound through the speakers but still a little weird and I don't think it is heard outside the car. I do like the way it sounds though
1/23/2015 3:29:29 PM
pretty sure the challenger or charger did it long ago
1/23/2015 4:12:56 PM
bmw did the sound simposer thing (connecting the intake to the cabin in some way to ressonate noise) a long time ago... now they just play engine music by bimmer over the radio. They claim they've made their cabin's so quiet you can't hear the exhaust.

People that buy this nonsense are killing the car market for gear heads.I'll stop there, I could rant until the end of days about how stupid it is to buy a low power (muscle car) etc etc etc.[Edited on January 23, 2015 at 5:24 PM. Reason : .]

I think this is great, this way the toolbag with his 4cyl mustang can sit over there and rev away while all the traffic around him is undisturbed.

This is just the press going nuts. The active noise cancellation is actually there to enhance performance and fuel economy, but for it to make sense you have to look at the big picture. With active noise cancellation I have much greater freedom with the engine tuning and the design of the intake and exhaust restriction. I can use more EGR (typically internal through valve timing but cooled external EGR is growing) for better fuel economy, because I can use the active noise cancelling to counteract obnoxious droning sounds. Low pressure EGR systems are especially bad, and they're on tons of diesels and are now finding their way into gasoline engines. The same applies for active engine mounts; one of their main purposes is to counteract torque fluctuations from internal EGR used for better fuel economy. It helps for performance because now I don't need to constrict my exhaust and intake system for the sake of noise. I can use freer flowing intake systems and exhaust systems because I don't have to use fixed mechanical designs to block sounds that most people don't want to hear.

The thing is we are talking about a Mustang (mainly) here, not a Honda Civic. Only idiots use those types of mufflers on American Sports Cars. Honestly I didn't even think about the "only you can hear it" thing, that makes it even more stupid. Do yall agree with me on saying the EcoBoost Mustang is still considered a modern muscle car? I say this because people are arguing it, however nobody argues that a V6 Mustang isn't a muscle car (for the last ~50 years). My other question is still, does the manufacturer inform the buyer of this feature?
1/26/2015 11:13:55 AM
Lets all agree that a ecoboost mustang is in no way a muscle car.2015 V6 Mustang
1/26/2015 11:33:14 AM
I think what he's referring to is rated output compared to previous models.1993 Fox body GT was 225hp/300ft-lb, iirc.
1/26/2015 11:42:33 AM
I mean I guess you can say its modern muscle, but you can compare a 2015 Camry to a 1980's Camaro and say a new Camry is modern muscle. A turbo, 4 banger that runs 14s in the 1/4 mile is not a muscle car in my book.Don't want to get off topic, but I always find it interesting that there isn't a huge difference in MPG, between the V8 and V6. Ecoboost is the way to go to save gas I guess.[Edited on January 26, 2015 at 3:08 PM. Reason : .]

cobra was 235 / 280

Thats just pathetic. I had a 85 iroc, slower car I've ever owned.
1/26/2015 5:07:16 PM
my guess is.. within the year some one will have a 9 second ecoboost... v6 turbos well too
1/26/2015 6:01:45 PM
I think someone's either sandbagging or the GTR guy is inflating his numbers
1/26/2015 8:13:18 PM
675-700 whp vs 720 call it crank hp? more than likely quoting the numbers for the average tune with those mods... i'm betting the gtr isn't slow.... but that mustang gets it..
1/27/2015 8:24:28 AM
missed the nitrous adder, but, dude in GTR said '720 to the rear wheels, not all wheel'
1/27/2015 8:29:22 AM
lol good point... he's got one of those rotary engines, a stroker with forged pistons and rods.
1/27/2015 8:40:57 AM
BlackJesus, a Mustang isn't a muscle car. It's a ponycar.They're not the same thing.
1/30/2015 1:01:13 PM
in 1964 the mustang was a chick car. /arguments.
1/30/2015 1:38:28 PM
^Mustangs are still chick cars. I've noticed mostly Indians driving the 2015s, might be a Raleigh thing. 2015 stang is hands down the ugliest mustang ever produced.^^Valid statement, but a overpowered mustang (GT500 etc) is a muscle car in my opinion.[Edited on January 30, 2015 at 1:50 PM. ^^Thank you, finally someone else that agrees with me. It's not that good looking, and I'm quite mystified at all the car writers drooling over the new styling.
