I got very excited when I saw these were a thing. But yesterday I heard they weren't very good. I will still try them though.
1/21/2015 2:39:48 PM
a lot of their non-standard frostings end up tasting all chemical-likei'm looking at you birthday cake oreos ಠ_ಠ[Edited on January 21, 2015 at 2:48 PM. Reason : and candy corn oreos]

Whats wrong with Black oreos?I'm Krallum and I approved this message.

i'm looking at you birthday cake oreos ?_?SAY WHATTTTTTTT
1/21/2015 2:58:13 PM
So basically the cookies have half the cocoa (if any?), tons of food color, and artificial cream cheese flavor in the creme?

1/21/2015 4:28:26 PM
The type of person who eats Oreos isn't expecting it to taste like gourment Belgian chocolate here. There is an understanding that it is full of fat and chemicals. Its like going to McDonald's, you know it is bad for you but it it is tasty and satisfying.
1/21/2015 5:13:48 PM
^ i know that and i am not arguing that... just trying to figure out how they will be different from regular oreos.
1/21/2015 5:21:01 PM

1/21/2015 7:04:52 PM
Good idea, or greatest idea? In 100 years, we'll be saying "the best thing since red velvet oreos".[Edited on January 21, 2015 at 7:34 PM. Reason : ]

1/21/2015 10:51:25 PM
^^ Isn't red velvet cake chocolate flavored anyway?
1/21/2015 10:59:10 PM
^I didn't know that...that clarifies the matter somewhat, yeah.
1/21/2015 11:05:51 PM
^^For the most part. If they did it right the cookie should not taste identical to the regular one though.I, for one, plan on trying them solely for the "cream cheese frosting" filling. It's going to be either really good or really bad, I think.
1/21/2015 11:50:45 PM
^^OK not to know, but didn't you ever wonder what this "red velvet" flavor is? I mean, it is not the name of a natural flavor/ingredient/etc, so it never piqued your curiosity?Red velvet is basically a con... it is very mild chocolate flavor (so mild you can't taste it) with loads of red food coloring. I wonder who came up with it, and using what thought process... "oh hey, let me make a chocolate cake, but add so little cocoa powder that you can't taste it, can't see the color of chocolate, so it's not a chocolate cake, and then throw in tons of red color, ummm, just because red is pretty".And now many cupcake places have Blue velvetPink velvetPurple velvetBlack velvetcupcakes.

chill out... i only said that because I know you are a math and/or science person, and so, naturally curious.
1/22/2015 10:16:52 AM
I sensed an undertone of "aren't you concerned about all the horrible artificial chemicals/flavorings you might be putting into your body?"
1/22/2015 10:19:30 AM
no no!i was talking about curiosity about what the flavor is (regardless of whether it is natural or artificial). like, what the heck is this "red velvet" business?!
1/22/2015 10:45:57 AM
I wouldn't call myself a curious person, except as regards certain subjects (math, science, history) that I'm actually interested in. I don't have that universal passion for learning that some people possess.also, I think it's fair to say that that passion is NOT an invariable, or even strongly correlated, accompaniment of being mathy/sciencey. anyway, my curiosity does not extend to the composition of my food. there aren't too many things I'm less curious about, actually. but if I misunderstood the purpose of your question, I apologize.

Meg's wedding had red velvet cupcakes that were more of a ruddy brown. It was amusing to hear people keep saying "I didn't see any red velvet, but I got a chocolate one."
1/22/2015 1:04:27 PM
Any fan of Kool-Aid or pink lemonade knows you can taste colors.
1/22/2015 1:18:57 PM
We had both! And vanilla. Not that there were any left when I got around to it

omfg 1 tbsp vinegar... yeah, that defines the cake right there. (i know what it is supposed to do)you don't need to be an expert in "red velvet cake" to know that a whole red velvet cake only has 3 tbsp cocoa powder and shit tons of red color, and oh yeah, 1 tbsp vinegar (lol). as i said in my post you quoted, it is a red cake with a mostly not noticeable chocolate taste.so yeah, stfu.
2/7/2015 9:17:03 PM
yeah vinegar is not known for its strong taste you should stick to manly women, terrorism, and shit sniffing
2/7/2015 11:00:04 PM
1 tbsp vinegar in a whole cake will give it a strong taste? not to mention, a lot of it will evaporate.it is obvious science is not your thing. plus, you have no clue about ratios and proportions. (and tastes)you should stick to ad hominem, strawman, and being a jerk.
2/7/2015 11:08:19 PM
Traditional red velvet used vinegar and natural cocoa (or beets) for coloring, not taste.]]
2/7/2015 11:29:17 PM
Red Velvet cake is just another one of those massively overhyped yet not actually all that great southern foods/beverages. Add it to the list with NC barbecue, moonpies, cheerwine, grits, etc.
2/8/2015 12:09:39 AM
correction:you guys are right; beets and vinegar make no difference whatsoever! its just for looks!we should all stick to boxed mixes because, after all, it all tastes the same.actually im just being facetious! OEP should stick to shit sniffing and Tanzarian should stick to rolly eyes in political threads.
2/8/2015 1:23:10 AM
smaller package than regular oreos for the same pricenothnx.
2/8/2015 2:28:29 AM
Strange. I thought putting beets in a chocolate cake would have been right in oepii's wheelhouse
2/8/2015 4:24:54 AM
good idea-- yes. How do you create a transient, niche product, and get consumers to go rabid about it? Create a synthetic perception of scarcity. Go after the collective FOMO that our society has. It works well with this and other limited release oreo flavors. It works with girl scout cookies (Keebler and others make knockoffs that taste no different and are available year-round), seasonal beers (I will admit that I am a sucker for limited release beers), small batch liquors (guilty here also) and other products that can command a higher profit margin simply by manufacturing some scarcity around it. Now that i'm off my high horse, I'm going to go find some BOFA.

Oreos are rarely ever a bad ideathey don't have much to lose anyway (from a business stand point)I had some Red Velvet cookies the other day that had white chocolate chunks in themI didn't think they'd be good at all, but they ended up being delicious :3they weren't quite as obnoxious as an actual red velvet cake
