So of course plenty people have had this issue and probably not sure how much it will really cost.
I have had tickets in the past and gotten them taken care with a lawyer with PJC or improper equipment. Not thinking about it, I recently got a ticket for 67 in a 55 in jones county. I went into court and got it reduced to a 60 in a 55mph. I figured that this would mean my insurance wouldn't go up. All it did really was decrease my ticket by about $10. I actually expect now that I will have a very small increase in my insurance since its my first ticket but still 5mph will give u something. It would have been smarter to use the pleas from #2.

Here are some things to discuss and please if you have experience or actual facts, then mention it.

What I know:
1) Never pay the ticket outright, instead, go to court and get it reduced or do #2
2) Get a lawyer to use the improper equipment plea or the prayer for judgement/PJC. The PJC costs more but can be used for higher speeds.
3) Traffic school is an option but realize that if you still got the ticket and did the course after, then all that does is reduce points on your license, it has no effect on your insurance increase. I guess there is a potential to get the D.A. to allow you to do this course instead of pleading guilty to any ticket (reduced or not).

My real questions and myths I want to debunk
1) Even if you have a 10 mph ticket and reduced to 5 mph over. Your insurance will increase, the amount is the question and for NC, its for 3 years.
2) if you have a history of speeding, the same ticket will effect you more than if you had no ticket history. This is the premium increasing but some people have discounts based on safe driver, you have the potential to lose or keep that discount.
3) What types of increases have some of you seen? I was told that 5mph over would give me a small increase.
4) PJC and improper equipment are only allowed to be used every 2 or 3 years. Some counties track the use of these but I don't know if they speak to other counties. So you could use these as long as its not in the same county.

Above all things, I suggest just not speeding. If you are, stay below 7 mph and if its bad weather, slow down because you could still get pulled for the speed limit during a storm.
This is basically a discussion if you have gotten a ticket.

You get a pass on your insurance for one ticket 9 MPH or less over every 3 years I believe. Pleading guilty to one 5 over should not affect your insurance rates.

speeding <10mph in a 55mph or greater zone is 2 insurance points and you could see a 45% increase (the actual real impact i think can be more if you were previously on some kind of safe driver discount)

insurance is based on SDIP accumulated in 3 years

traffic school is not available in many counties

Traffic enforcement is all about cash, you will get raped for 3 years. You will get raped in court. YOU WILL GET RAPED.
