There is no way in hell you just make 40k on a 15 month deployment.
1/3/2015 2:17:12 PM
Hazard pay?
1/3/2015 2:24:58 PM
Hardship, family sep, BAS, BAH, hostile fire payNot to mention it's all tax free.
1/3/2015 2:34:25 PM
wait, i thought our savior obama ended all wars?
1/3/2015 2:38:56 PM
ehh, i think 40k for 15 months is about right for a deployment
1/3/2015 3:04:57 PM
Okay, lets do the math of a single servicemember living in the barracks on base.Lets assume, E-3 with 3 years of service. Base pay: $1,950.00 HFP/IDP: $225HDP-L: $100BAS: $254.46-----------------------Total monthly pay: 2529That's roughly 38k, but that's all tax free, so that's equivalent to more. In addition, that service member has zero bills related to living expenses like rent, groceries, etc.In addition, the service member will earn ~45 days of tax free vacation while on his deployment. If the service member has family, you add 250 a month or 3750 for the 15 months to it. If the service member is living off base, he still gets his BAH, so for an E-3 with 3 years, based on averages of CONUS that's an extra 950 a month single, or 1300 a month with dependents, again tax free.

The only problem is, most junior enlisted are incredibly dumb with money and will go out and buy a shitty ford mustang when they get back.

Also, this is from an article in 2007.

Could someone describe the nature of the alleged fraud referenced herein. I did a quick googling but none of the recent articles describe what they actually did, just that it was 41 counts of fraud and related activities.

http://www.justice.gov/usao/nj/Press/files/pdffiles/2013/Guidice,%20Giuseppe%20and%20Teresa%20Indictment.pdfOverstating income when applying to get a loan. Then understating income when declaring bankruptcy.Sort of like "Hey let's borrow money and then keep it and discharge the debt obligation in bankruptcy proceedings."Net result is profit and also illegal.Sure they pleaded out and are subject to a restitution order, but the lenders will never see a penny of that money.

The military gives people who come from a background of nothing and gives them a well earned place in society.
1/3/2015 7:29:32 PM
From the indictment it seems like they were asking to get caught. I guess their 6-figure income wasn't good enough. They also had to try to steal 5 million from various financial institutions, and not pay any of their taxes. Then in the bankruptcy proceedings they fail to disclose things, then they do disclose them, then fail to disclose them again? How did they manage to get such light sentences? 41 and 15 months? The case seems like a slam dunk. I would think that much fraud over the course of a decade warrants 10 times as much prison.

That's what I am saying15 months for 400k (estimated what they will walk away with in spite of restitution, at least)15 months for 40kShocked the media is pushing 15 months as monumental to the dependopotami of the world then military fams endure much much longer...for much less moneyJust thoughts about the direction things are going......________If you asked your average military recruit on his first day of a 15 month deployment:Would you trade this in right now to spend the remaining 15 months in jail for a payout of 10x what you are about to earn over the next year, what would that recruit say?[Edited on January 3, 2015 at 8:04 PM. You do realize your quote is from 2007 right? I mean you had to, because you said "Defense Secretary" and you cut out Gates' name in your copy/paste job. Fucking idiot. [Edited on January 3, 2015 at 8:08 PM. Reason : a]

The activities in their indictment extends back from 2005, and the heart of much of their criminal activity occurred in 2007. The comparison is still relevant. You could be sitting at home defrauding a bank or deployed overseas in exchange for 15 months. That's all.

Nah, I just think you're a fucking moron.
