Anyone jealous of their siblings? (or extended cousins trying to complete in the larger family to impress grandma)

If so, do share. This is perfect timing as the Holidays are approaching so that there can be much rancor surrounding the family dinner table. Provide basic information as follows:

Sibling Age:
Gender:
Primary Reason for Jealousy:

I will start

Sibling Age: 39
Gender: Female
Primary Reason for Jealousy: the family dog always sits in her lap and that son of a bitch acts like I am a goddamn stranger whenever she comes over

I turn everything into a competition for my little kids. They know the rules, but not being old enough to self-regulate much it helps to pit them against each other.

Everybody gets encouragement, but it's like Thunderdome over here for who gets to brush their teeth first.

Consequences later in life? Maybe.

I'm not a jealous person at all and in general I'm very laid back about just about everything but man, my brother, he is the king of 1-uppers. I don't know if it stems from jealousy (don't really think it would be -- he's 3 years older than me but at about the same amount of life "success") or whatever but he always has to be the best at everything. Even if we are at my parent's house for Christmas and I'm making my wife some fucking scrambled eggs for breakfast he'll come in and be like "Oh man you are doing it wrong, let me show you how to make real eggs" then proceed to do the exact same thing as me. Always a competition with him.

My (half)sister is 11 years younger than me and I've never had to live with her but it's hilarious when I do visit my dad's side and she's not the center of attention. Her grades also suck and she has no friends because she's so spoiled.

I do have to admit I'm a bit jealous of how spoiled she is. Her first car was 4x the value of mine and she never had to work for it. Her college/study abroad/grad school / first house will all be paid for no questions asked. Her bedroom suite is 850 square ft. with two custom couches and an entertainment center. King sized bed. Her walk in closet has a window in it and built in vanity/shelves and has to be at least 12x12. You could fit a twin bed in there.

I'm also the oldest cousin so no competition there either. It's so blatantly obvious that I'm the favorite

when we were kids, and even when i was in high school and he was in college, i was real competitive with my brother. but he's 7 years older than me. so it wasn't so much jealousy as it was just me being a punk little brother trying to one up him. at that age, it was mostly just juvenile, immature stuff - like i'd brag about how my high school grades were better than his high school grades or whatever.

now that we're older, i have no feelings of jealousy or anything like that at all. i'm extremely close with both my sister (4 years younger) and my brother (7 years older) and they're two of my closest friends.

my brothers and I were always competitive at everything...and we have a great relationships with one another now

I'm just glad that I was the oldest so usually I was winning everything when we were young

I did get a little jealous of how quickly one picked up surfing, and how good he became at it, but i found that cheering him on as opposed to competing is a good way to deal with a sibling being better at something than me

^yeah that's similar to how me and my brother were....we both played sports. but since he's 7 years older than me it's not like i was gonna beat him at basketball when i was 10 or anything. so it became more of a bonding thing. going to each others games and stuff like that.

Nope. Kind of hard to be competitive with an older sister. She was a little jealous of me because I got better grades and was a little better in sports...but we had a pretty good relationship, so it wasn't a big deal.

There was a set of "identical" twins in my grade where the "lesser" twin had it kind of rough. They were identical in every way physically except that one twin had a really bad lazy eye...and that same twin was just a notch below the other twin in every sport. They were both good, but the no-lazy-eye twin was the All-Star while the other one would just be a starter....in EVERY SINGLE SPORT. I always felt bad for the "lesser" twin. Had to have been tough. The other one always got the girls and all of the awards. They got into a couple pretty big fights growing up...but I think it could have been worse if the lesser twin had handled it worse.

WTF her bedroom is bigger than some apartments around here.

No jealousy here AFAIK, although I'm the only one who got a Master's degree and isn't scraping by. Makes me happy I kept my head in the books. Having said that, I'm definitely NOT the favorite. These motherfuckers start itching for you to get married and crank out some kids the moment you get your HS diploma. Plus I'm gay, which makes me a few notches below Satan in their eyes.

^^Did you even read the thread? Most people in here are saying that they were competitive when kids but have grown out of it. I'd say that is probably very common.

I think of ShinAntonio like a brother, and therefore feel the need to compete with him. Unbeknownst to him, I have been sabotaging his career and personal relationships behind the scenes for quite some time now. Though recently, it seems that he has overcome my shadow campaign on both fronts. Now, its time for the nuclear option...

I was always jealous of how much attention my older brother got for being so smart. He is really, really smart, but he was also lazy. I've always made good grades while he brought home C's. Having the whole county constantly remind me of how intelligent my brother is got really frustrating. He would fix people's computers around town and everyone thought he was a genius for it. My Dad still acts like I know nothing and he knows everything, but that basically means he doesn't bother me with stupid questions. Now I'm proud of how smart he is and how far he's come with no college degree.

Oh, and we would always have swim races in the pool. He would usually win because he was a foot taller than me, but I'd give him a run for his money. We'd also play basketball and I'd have to play very aggressive to even get a chance. This made PE sports awkward, because I would constantly foul everyone.

We're 4 years apart.
