I've never been a honey connoisseur, but it's always been just about my favorite sweetener. I never really thought about what kind I was getting so I just got whatever came in the bear at the grocery store. Recently though I've tried a couple of different types, and was wondering what others might be good. Here are a couple i've tried in the last few months:

Least Favorite: Orange blossom honey. Tasted too distinctively like oranges and gave an odd flavor (to me) to the honey.

Most Favorite: Mesquite honey. Wife got this at Trader Joe's, and it is fantastic. I don't have enough experience with describing the taste of honey to elaborate, but it didn't have a super distinct flavor, but it was very rich and... uhh... good. Almost a smokey flavor, but not sure if I imagined it since I associate mesquite with certain smokey bbq varieties.

Depends what i'm using it for. If it's just to eat by itself (honey stick, etc.), you've gotta try a good Tupelo honey. nom.

Clover

Honey is something I buy from every country I visit, and have had some great honeys from England, Australia, Mauritius, and other places.

the generic honey you get in supermarkets is a mix of honeys gathered from different flowers. similar to generic black tea which is a blend from tea grown in different countries, and chocolate which is made from beans from different countries.

the fun starts when you start when you start exploring single origin honeys, teas, chocolates, etc. that's when you start appreciating the foods and tasting the differences from one variety/region to another.

i love how agave tastes... unfortunately, it is mostly fructose and terrible for you

try yacon syrup... i haven't tried it, but is super healthy.

I like Wildflower honey the best.

There is a brand that I've only seen in Whole Foods that I like the best, it called Weeks Honey Farm. Its a family owned bidness out of Georgia and they have a few flavors that are fantastic. I can recommend their Buckwheat and Wildflowers honeys.

Whats going rate for honeycomb? I went to local farmers market today, got honeycomb that originated about 20 miles from me, don’t have allergies that bad but read if you eat local honey, more likely to build a tolerance to many of the pollens in your area.

Had never tried honey comb until today…pretty steep, it was $15 for a pound. The raw local honey in a jar was $14. Normal stuff i get from walmart(raw organic great value brand) is “US, Brazil, Argentina” honey, which doesn’t sound appealing

After a little googling the past 20 or so minutes, i might have underestimated how much I was ingesting. I ate 25% of my 1lbs circle block of honeycomb. A serving size of similar product on walmart says 16 servings in a 4oz container, i ate 4oz today. Didn’t seem like a lot but i just put it in the vitamix. One website says if added to diet suddenly can give you stomach issues

It was at a farmers market, i think they just slap sticker from liquid honey onto their comb honey. They don’t even sell comb honey on their website
