Cool, it's like Siri or OK Google, but a separate device! And they say Amazon is late to the party..
i can't figure out why i would want this
11/7/2014 2:47:57 PM
I'm always in the market for a bluetooth speaker...not so sure I need Siri on my kitchen counter though. Seems a little creepy.
11/7/2014 2:55:39 PM
I want it so everytime my step son asks me a question, which turns into 50 more questions, I can send him to Alexa and she can answer his questions all day long haha. Also, for the ones I dont actually know the answer to.
11/7/2014 3:06:15 PM
that's all well and good until he figures out he can order shit from there
11/7/2014 4:21:18 PM
if i can rename it HAL i'll get one.
11/7/2014 4:32:12 PM
Damn Amazon Prime discount tempting me to buy useless gadgets just because I can save $100.EDIT: Wait a minuteWhat happens if I say "Wikipedia: Abraham Lincoln"? Does it read the whole damn Wikipedia page to me?[Edited on November 7, 2014 at 8:11 PM. Reason : ]
11/7/2014 8:09:15 PM
soooo...its siri...but with a bigger speaker?
11/7/2014 9:53:55 PM
I honestly just don't know what to think of this device as of yet.
11/7/2014 10:26:41 PM
11/8/2014 12:59:37 AM
Yeah sounds like they are progressing backwards...regressing an trying to sell it, on purpose.weird..I wont buy one but will see Apple's response. Or even the beats response.
11/8/2014 1:15:03 AM
I'm on the list just for a 100 dollar wireless speaker
11/8/2014 12:33:52 PM
Now if they would just build an Echo app for the smartwatch then we'd be cooking with bacon grease. Come on now, being able to talk to your watch would be too bad ass.

11/8/2014 5:02:27 PM
^ HAHAHAHA that's really funny only becasue I watched the original advert!
11/8/2014 5:16:43 PM
i can't imagine the sound from this is any better than the stereo sound i get from my arctic jambox-knockoff BT speakers that cost me $14http://www.amazon.com/ARCTIC-Bluetooth-Speaker-Microphone-Hands-Free/dp/B00F4EONWSgranted, $14 was a heckuva deal, but the ~$30 they usually go for is well worth it...all i'm lacking is talking to my damn speaker, which i'm not inclined to do
11/11/2014 7:47:22 PM
11/12/2014 12:37:30 AM
Yeah, no thanks.
11/12/2014 3:01:54 PM
good thing i dont walk around with a small device with a microphone connected to the cell tower internet all the time
11/12/2014 4:30:15 PM
the latest Android OS is always listening, and i'm sure iOS will get this at some point too.If you've watched any movie about the future... this is the future.Even if all the voice processing were done locally, just the outbound queries would be enough to know too much* about a person.*too much in this case means what someone who grew up in the 90s views as "too much." Younger generations will not have our same hangups about this.[Edited on November 12, 2014 at 4:50 PM. Reason : ]

Cellphones are not always actively listening by default, except for a few models (that may change with the next generation, iOS 8 I think has that option, and so do some of the Android variation). They are not explicitly set up to collect data and transmit it to an outside source. So that's not really comparable. I am no privacy hardliner like Duke, in fact, I generally don't mind my browsing data being aggregated and used to improve searches etc, but always-on mic would make me feel uncomfortable. Same with those smart TVs that use gesture and voice recognition for control (as well as Kinect). They are literally always watching. This is like "1984", except government didn't even have to force these devices on us, they expect us to buy them on our own dime. I have Prime, but I won't be buying one of these.[Edited on November 12, 2014 at 4:50 PM. Reason : .]

many devices have been capable of violating your privacy through audio and video for a long time now. Have you seen the movie American Pie circa 1999[Edited on November 12, 2014 at 4:55 PM. Reason : ?]
11/12/2014 4:54:57 PM
crap, so you mean they'll know how many times i tell it to play my Miley Cyrus playlist????
11/13/2014 10:18:32 AM
I like to ask OK Google "what is a turd"
11/13/2014 5:34:44 PM
"a lump of excrement"
11/13/2014 5:40:08 PM
11/14/2014 5:55:37 PM
It's optional. I don't have mine turned on, not for security worries, but because I don't want it to inadvertently trigger while it's in my pocket and potentially use up battery.
11/14/2014 8:38:33 PM
So should I get one? Got a few more days to order if I do.
1/9/2015 9:00:38 AM

1/9/2015 7:03:22 PM
Just got an email... it doesn't seem like this product will really have ANY functionality once it's released. It's basically a glorified amazon music player.I might just wait on the 2nd gen, or see what apple/google releases...
1/9/2015 9:53:55 PM
I've wanted this product ever since I saw the commercial for it on TV when I was eating applesauce in my nursing home.

I've got one and my wife and I like it a lot. Voice control works really well. Its cool being able to say, "Alexa, play Etta James", and it will just start shuffling her songs off of prime. Imo the sound is pretty damn solid for a $100 Bluetooth speaker.
