My old neighbors used to mow on Saturday before 8:00 AM. That was a pain in the ass but I have no issues potentially waking someone up at 10 AM.

10 AM is perfectly fine. Gotta get that shit done before noon kickoff.

8 AM is too early. 9 AM is probably the cut off.

for me, anything before 10 a.m. is fucked up and inconsiderate as hell. I find even 10...10:30 to be questionable.

if the sun is up, it's fair game. I prefer to do yard work before it warms up too much.

they should make sound ordinances change by season. 7AM (usually the cutoff for sound ordinances in most places) isn't that early in summer, but it's early as shit in winter.

also, work starting hours should change too

Yeah, in the summer you gotta get on that early....before it's 100 degrees out.

^^yeah, blowing leaves when it's cold as hell and the yard is still slightly damp doesn't make much sense, unless you have to due to working night shifts or something.

But yeah, 10 am is perfectly fine. Got to get shit done when you can. I'm not sure when is the earliest time I have mowed the lawn but I know I have mowed it in the morning before when I had plans the rest of the day like a home football game.

8 is rude as hell. 9 is a little questionable but not a huge deal. 10 is fine (and as mentioned, ideal if you're trying to catch a noon game).

I've never even really thought about this. I grew up with no real neighbors...we lived in a real rural area so this was never an issue. And since then I've only lived in apartment complexes. So I guess I can't speak from experience with neighbors and stuff. But 10:00 seems more than reasonable. And certainly not rude.

Yeah, no issue with this. What I do have an issue with is apt. complexes having the guys come by to run the leaf blowers at 8AM on the weekend.

I work third shift so it sucks no matter what when it's going on in the morning, but you could easily have that stuff done weekday mornings when most residents are at work.

Fair enough, but understand that if you have a neighbor right next to you and you mow the lawn before 8AM on a saturday you are unquestionably an asshole.

I was staying the night at a friend's place when I discovered his neighbor was remodeling. Sawing/drilling/hammering started at 7am... on Sunday morning. I was not pleased.

10:00 am or after is 100% fine, always.

9-10 might be questionable. Before 9 makes you either an asshole or oblivious.

9am has always been my minimum start time for mowing the lawn. 10AM? More than enough to be acceptable. Not your neighbors fault if you chose to stay up until 3am

Not true. Poor people are usually up pretty early. Gotta start early if you want to sit on your porch all day or make multiple walking trips to the corner store to buy 1 scratch off at a time.

You could always buy a house that's better insulated or one where the houses that aren't on top of each other

Mowing your yard at 8am ON A WEEKEND is a dick move

I have no issue with 7am on a weekday. What does being in our 30s have to do with catching up on sleep on the sabbath?

I'm not poor, and I routinely sleep until or past 9:00 on the weekends, or even when I was in the Marines if I had an afternoon or evening flight and wasn't going in to work until later. Also, being up until 3 am isn't that crazy, and I'm 35. If I close the bars down at 2 am, by the time I walk to my car and get home, it will be 2:40, maybe 2:45. By the time I'm in bed, it's gonna be right at 3.

Also, I have a pretty nice brick house that's only a couple years old, so it's well insulated. I'm also a pretty heavy sleeper, and my bedroom is about as far from neighbors' yards as it can be, so I don't often have a problem with this (though I have once or twice).

Regardless of all that, if you mow the lawn at 8 am, though, you are a fucking douchebag. 10 am-10pm is the window for making noise outside unless you know it's OK with your neighbors.

I'm surprised so many people are down on mowing your lawn early. I agree people mowing their lawn at 7-8 are annoying, but from June to August is hot as fuck. I actually envy them because I'm drenched in sweat by the time I finish mowing my lawn and I start at 10.

Shit, some guys came out to work on my fence and they started at 7ish. I felt bad for the neighbors, but those motherfuckers were sweating like crazy before most people wake up on a Sunday. The neighbors can deal with it.

I can barely sleep past 7am most days...8am is big time sleeping in for me. During the summer I routinely start yard work by 8 am so I'm not passing out in 100 degree weather at noon. Your lazy ass can take a nap when I'm done at 10 am and ready to head to the beach.

The only thing that makes that acceptable is knowing that your neighbor can easily take a nap while golf is on in the afternoon.

Yeah, I actually don't really mind if it's being done by a commercial service, or if construction workers are framing a house with an air hammer or something. That's their job; they're working for a business, and they work during normal working hours.

It's people who could do it anytime (even if it means scheduling your day so you aren't doing it ass early, or if it means doing it another day) who piss me off. It's as much principle as it is nuisance. I'd be irritated at them even if I was awake, just because they are being douchebags.
