looks to me like it's at least trying to address the uglier side of things. could be interesting.

his accent wasn't so steady in that trailer. Hopefully it is not annoying. On the other hand, what are some other good sniper books out there?

this movie is on the internets nowmy takeaway from this film: if this film is anything like the book, then Chris Kyle was fucking in love with himself. this film sucked, Chris Kyle seems like an egotistical asshole

i watched this last night and enjoyed the movie until the last 30 seconds and then i wanted to throw the remote at the tv - i recommend just turning the tv off just before the end and wondering what might have happened will be better
1/9/2015 11:44:00 AM
^well, that ruins this movie for me then. I absolutely can't stand it when movies end shittily.

^^^he spends a lot of time on the no chemical weapons thing which has been proven to actually exist and been covered up by the government to some degree. this guy has a story he wants to tell the way he wants to tell it. after getting that far i stopped. just a hit piece on a dead guy
1/9/2015 10:03:26 PM
That's because he claims they are WMDs, they are the WMDs, the weapons we went into Iraq to find. That's not true, its a misconception that gets repeated, and it's fair to call out someone for making that claim. [Edited on January 9, 2015 at 10:15 PM. Reason : .]

Chris Kyle is a proven liar.I don't really care to see this movie, especially with Bradley Cooper's fucking accent.
1/9/2015 11:51:06 PM
^^ go google it, stop being as dumb as Chris Kyle
1/10/2015 11:19:41 AM
Chris Kyle claimed in his book that they found chemical stockpiles for WMDs in Iraq, so that would be a huge deviation from the original story. With regard to what dtownral is saying about no WMDs in Iraq, that's only a half truth. We never found any functional devices, but Wikileaks did reveal chemical stockpiles being found for the sole purpose of making chemical weapons. They also hauled out over 500 tons of yellowcake uranium from an old nuke lab that had been looted. unfortunately, the locals in some cases thought the barrels of uranium would be good for storing water in, so there's probably an entire village out there that died a slow horrible death.
1/10/2015 2:04:18 PM
We actually did find functional chemical weapons and the government did actually try to sweep them under the rug. The soldiers who were exposed to them are still being denied benefits and follow up care they are due, it's a real problem. But those weren't the WMD's in question, they aren't what we went to war about. We knew about those chemical weapons and actually helped Iraq obtain them (they date back to the Iran-Iraq war) but they aren't enough to be strategically significant (i.e. they suck for soldiers exposed to them, but no threat to the US) and aren't why we went to war. Chris Kyle, Fox News-types, and apparently goalielax are all pushing the misconception that these are the WMD's we went looking for and that these justified the war or made Cheney not a war criminal. They aren't and they don't.[Edited on January 10, 2015 at 5:25 PM. Reason : .]

^^^You don't think chemical weapons can devastate populations like bombs can? Chemical weapons are WMD's, just like nuclear weapons are. A virus can be a WMD. I think you are confused about what a WMD is. I don't disagree that the people of the U.S. were mislead to believe that WMD's are nukes and we believed Iraq was proliferating nuclear weapons. A nuclear weapon is basically a chemical weapon that just blows up a lot of people in close range, and then spreads out disease.
1/11/2015 11:16:11 PM
look, idiots, the chemical weapons that we found are not a strategic threat (per the military and experts), we knew about them, and they are not the WMD's that we went to war about. Finding them does not justify going to war, they are not why we went, no amount of claiming so makes it true. I don't know how to make that more simple for you, stop watching Fox News

Saw it today.... great movie, very intense, and it moved fast.I went in knowing the general story, but not certain I would enjoy the movie. I'm sure it will finish among top 3 for Best Picture, if it doesn't win it.

Is that you John Wayne? Is this me?
1/18/2015 9:48:55 PM
This guy comes off as a 15 year old with his completely bullshit stories to hype himself up. And then people blame PTSD for his self aggrandizing lies ignoring that it is far more likely that he has been a giant piece of shit his entire life. It just so happens that he was a good shot.
1/18/2015 9:51:11 PM
^ You mean real human beings are not all good or all bad? Quality post
1/18/2015 10:43:52 PM
I'm not saying he had bad qualities. I'm saying he had loads of them and was a generally shitty person. The fact that you are ignoring the countless number of people who want to canonize this chode for being such an amazing human being is great. But go ahead, it's cool that people worship those who tell unbelievable (and by that, I mean you shouldn't fucking believe it) stories like sniping 30 innocent people from the superdome.[Edited on January 18, 2015 at 11:09 PM. Even if I accept your first hand knowledge of his personal shortcomings, I see no problem separating that from his noteworthy and laudable accomplishments as a soldier. On a separate note, this is a movie not a documentary. It was made for entertainment not educational purposes. It is not supposed to be 100% true.
1/18/2015 11:20:44 PM
It's a movie based on his book, which has been proven to have many non factual parts.
1/18/2015 11:23:19 PM
Yes we have established that he either lied/embellished/told "war stories" and that makes him a "giant piece of shit" My point is that I can acknowledge his failures as a person and at the same time celebrate his accomplishments (2 Silver Stars and 5 Bronze Stars) all the while enjoying what was a great movie.
1/18/2015 11:33:21 PM
I love that this movie is making so many liberal progressives upset. They are desperately trying to ruin the character of a guy who lived his life serving his county and his family, and died serving the veteran community. And these loonies are trying to pick apart his book for inaccuracies.
1/18/2015 11:54:15 PM
His book told stories that catered to the delusional fantasies of the majority of people that would read his book. I just assumed the fiction in the book was put there for entertainment reasons.I don't know anything about Chris Kyle, but I had the opportunity to meet his friend/fellow SEAL Sniper/medic Kevin Lacz once. Kevin was an incredibly nice person and had some pretty cool stories, and he taught me more about shooting in 8 hours than I'd ever learned in my entire life. I was shocked when I saw Kevin playing himself in the movie; apparently Clint Eastwood brought him on as a consultant and ended up having him act as well.
