See where it says "(Limited)?"That means the Sept. 26th release was NYC/LA only.Depending on how it does, release will spread. We'll likely see it in a month or two.
9/30/2014 10:53:46 PM
Yes I understand Limited, but I didn't know it was Limited to only two cities in the entire US.My question is how is an Italian Web Rip floating around, but there is no way to watch it online in English legally? BTW, don't bother with that, it's dubbed in Italian, I was hoping for English w/ Italian subtitles.
9/30/2014 10:57:09 PM
Limited release almost always means NYC/LA. Sometimes they add Chicago.
9/30/2014 11:00:12 PM
Well considering it is Andre I checked ATL and it is playing there also.Surely there is somewhere that shows all cities without having to search zip codes. However I haven't found a website dedicated for this movie which seems a little odd. I guess once it is more widely available it will get one.I'm sure Ridley doesn't want too many people knowing about it until they see how it does.Edit: I guess this is the closest thing to a "website" this movie has currently: http://www.darko.com/film_allisbymyside.htmlAlso saw this interview with Ridley on the film: http://www.rollingstone.com/movies/news/jimi-all-is-by-my-side-john-ridley-talks-about-his-hendrix-biopic-20140313[Edited on September 30, 2014 at 11:54 PM. getting some legit good buzzfeels like this has been 10+ years in the making. if only the dudes in Queen/the Freddie Mercury estate weren't such assholes, we'd have the perfect Freddie Mercury movie to go along with this one

It's not about if they will grant rights it is about the amount they ask for. If you knew anything about Hendrix you would know he didn't have a lot of original material ready at this point of his life. To be clear we are talking about pre-Monterey Pop (the first time most people ever heard Hendrix), (1966-1967).At Monterey Pop (where this film should end right before he starts) Jimi played:Can You See Me? (Original)Purple Haze (Original)Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club BandMontereyKilling FloorFoxy Lady (Original)Like a Rolling StoneRock Me BabyHey Joe (Original)The Wind Cries Mary (Original)Wild Thing(Totaling 49 Minutes)I count 5 originals out of his debut to an insanely large festival. However Hendrix would own rights to the all of the original recordings from Monterey, because he played them (along with Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell).
10/1/2014 9:41:28 AM
ok, cool
10/1/2014 10:04:10 AM
I've read that there is a scene of him playing Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band
10/1/2014 12:18:26 PM
Well I'm pretty sure the Italian dubbed torrent floating around doesn't have the music dubbed in Italian, someone could easily check, but you know, we don't do that stuff here on TDub.
10/1/2014 11:08:05 PM
Too bad they didn't include Woodstock too. Could've included another original song of his, The Star Spangled Banner
10/1/2014 11:36:35 PM
hahaha

Considering when Jimi died and when it was released on vinyl, it is obvious I meant that even though they are not originals, they would still be considered Hendrix recordings. Obviously he doesn't/didn't have direct blanket rights over his first large scale debut... Also Criterion has the best version of the mentioned recording and it comes on two Blu-Rays, although the main one has very little Hendrix. The Monterey Pop Blu-Ray and Jimi Plays Monterey & Shake! Otis At Monterey.http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-Complete-Monterey-Pop-Festival-Blu-ray/99304/I didn't know we were going to have a dick measuring contest over copyright knowledge or I would have been more specific. Uh...Lol I did say "to the all", that should have been a hint I was just speaking in general terms of "ownership".I thought musicians got every single dollar from their recordings, are you telling me that isn't true??? WTF!!?!?!?Now wait, Andre is not going to get a 1:1 ratio payment based on his time on screen?? Please give me knowledge.[Edited on October 2, 2014 at 12:27 AM. Reason : copy what rights?]
10/2/2014 12:15:04 AM
I have no idea what any of that is supposed to mean.
10/2/2014 12:27:11 AM
That was how it was intended for you.
10/2/2014 12:27:33 AM
Getting back to the point, if the family won't/didn't give access to the publishing rights, there's not a single original Hendrix song in this film?[Edited on October 2, 2014 at 12:34 AM. Reason : 3]
10/2/2014 12:31:45 AM
Your question has already been answered:
10/2/2014 12:35:36 AM
That's not an answer. That's you suggesting I steal someone's art.
10/2/2014 12:40:07 AM
Well shit, look at how well Google works:"The film does not include any songs written by Hendrix, as the filmmakers' request to use them was denied by Experience Hendrix LLC (Hendrix's estate). Instead, the film – set in London in 1966 and 1967 – will include the songs that Hendrix performed during those years, shortly before the release of his debut album, Are You Experienced.[2]"[2] http://www.rollingstone.com/music/news/andre-3000-covers-beatles-muddy-waters-songs-for-jimi-hendrix-biopic-20120703

Cody ChesnuTT could've probably done a better job than Andre though Dre has more mass appeal
10/2/2014 12:51:15 AM
seriously?
10/2/2014 1:18:35 AM
just cause he kinda looks like him as Borat
10/2/2014 1:27:59 AM
They chose Andre because he looks a lot like Hendrix and Andre can actually play the guitar, although I am sure whatever we hear will not be what Andre actually plays on screen. They may be able to use actual Hendrix guitar solos from cover songs pre Are You Experienced. Maybe VinylBandit can enlighten us on that.
10/2/2014 1:31:33 AM
Chesnutt also looks kinda like Jimmy and is a better guitar player than Andre
10/2/2014 1:35:07 AM
I admit I will buy anything the idiots would release, but I think Hear My Train A Comin' is probably the best they will do in terms of anything slightly biopic. Although I would like to see what Darren Aronofsky and the Hendrix Nazis would come up with, haha.http://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Jimi-Hendrix-Hear-My-Train-A-Comin-Blu-ray/84028/

10/2/2014 11:56:44 PM
Well I actually learned some things in your post rather than you just arguing everything I said. Thank You.I am still wondering though, can they use actual Hendrix recorded pre-Are You Experienced without consent from the bitch of a sister he has, or should I say greedy as hell?
10/3/2014 12:08:55 AM
Experience Hendrix owns most of the recordings made in Hendrix's pre-Reprise career, so all of those are out. In addition, they're involved with all of the current Jimi Hendrix Experience reissues, so I assume they own all the publishing on his originals, so any song Hendrix actually wrote is out. That leaves a very small number of recordings that actual feature Hendrix.I wouldn't call withholding recordings and song rights from an unauthorized project "greedy." EH wants to be involved with a biopic from the beginning. They weren't with this one, so they're not offering the music. It's their property, so it's their rules.
10/3/2014 12:46:14 AM
Jimi didn't have some cushy family relationship and he didn't even grow up around his real sisters, much less the adopted one... Both his parents were alcoholics and became violent regularly, driving Jimi to hide in his closet as a child. The entire family grew up in poverty and when his parents eventually divorced after years of abuse, his Dad took one of his brothers, Leon and separated Jimi from the entire female side of the family and his younger brother Joseph. His mother and father gave up all of his younger siblings to foster care except Leon, leaving Jimi and his younger brother Leon with his father. When his mother died his father refused to let either Jimi (14 years old) or Leon go to the funeral, instead instructed them to take shots of whiskey and told them that is how men deal with loss. In other words Hendrix had a fucked up family and he barely knew his blood related sisters, much less his damn stepsister Janie, now CEO of Experience Hendrix. Janie Hendrix was rumored to have coerced Al Hendrix (Jimi's Dad) into removing Jimi's brother Leon out of the estate all together and attempted to remove a dozen other family members and friends.Read this and you'll see why a lot of fans hate her, she only met Jimi a handful of times before he died and now has full ownership since the other Jimi's first cousin who was COO of the estate died in 2012. Keep in mind this court case took place in 2004.http://www.seattlepi.com/local/article/Judge-splits-decision-on-Hendrix-estate-1155072.php

lol, I thought nobody would bother reading that after I wrote it.
10/5/2014 11:00:20 PM
So far it seems like the critics and audience enjoy the movie, for what it was allowed to be:http://www.dailycal.org/2014/10/13/jimi-side/
10/15/2014 1:56:40 AM
I've watched the movie and I have one major problem with it and that is the made up part of him beating his girl friend Kathy Etchingham with a telephone in a club. Kathy Etchingham even went on record saying the scene was entirely made up for the movie. Why in the fuck would they include that in the movie?
10/22/2014 9:01:45 PM
Nobody else drove to ATL to watch this?!?!?!
10/25/2014 6:59:52 PM
The only good member of Cream is dead and you're talking about a movie.

Dogg, ABB ended their touring Also Eric Clapton and Mr. Baker are still alive.
10/25/2014 10:56:52 PM
vinylbandit probably thinks Prince is a better guitar player than Jimi Hendrix
10/25/2014 11:06:29 PM
10/26/2014 1:51:39 PM
^^ I certainly do. Because it's true.
10/26/2014 3:14:19 PM
I know you do, that's why I posted it.You're also a complete dumbass for having that incorrect opinion.
10/26/2014 4:25:21 PM
lolWell Prince is a hell of a guitarist, but better than Hendrix in terms of raw talent? I don't agree there. You have to keep in mind how little Hendrix had to play in comparison to hone his skills. It is like comparing him with Jimmy Page, Buddy Guy or B.B. King who have all had well over 50 years to play.
10/26/2014 8:30:28 PM
he probably thinks the Beach Boys are better than the Beatles toosaying Prince is better than Jimi is like saying Patrick Ewing is better than Kareem[Edited on October 26, 2014 at 9:07 PM. Reason : .]
10/26/2014 8:39:23 PM
Jimi and Prince are both virtuosos. Jimi was more innovative, Prince has more natural talent. They're different, and that's okay. I prefer Prince.
10/27/2014 12:50:56 AM
I'm not sure how Page playing as a session guitarist has anything to do with what I said and he quit doing it because of how shitty the music was.
10/27/2014 9:26:04 AM
Prince's Cloud guitars were custom made by a Minneapolis luthier in the '80s.The Schecter Cloud guitars were copies made for sale through the Prince Fan Club.Prince's most famous single guitar is a Telecaster copy made by Hohner.Lately he's been playing Vox HDC77's.
