Dear god why have I been eating subway my whole life? Jersey Mike's blows them out of the water.

We got BOGO coupons as part of a fundraiser at work and I went to JM's and am glad that I did. I've been back like 5 times over the past couple of weeks. (our coupons expire end of September)

for about 3 times the price, sure. when Jersey Mike's crossed the 10 dollar barrier for the large, I swore my loyalty to Harris Teeter and Publix subs

Jersey Mike's #8 is well worth it. And for $13, it can serve for 2 meals.

Far superior... but then nearly any sub chain is.

I've been getting BOGO giant subs... each one of those is at least 3 meals worth of food... and then my wife gets 3 meals for free. (plus each coupon we use JM's donates a dollar to the fundraiser... plus i get free chips and a drink because i'm a teacher!)

so for 13 bucks we get more than 6 meals worth of food. that's pretty damn good.

Subway Spicy Italian Footlong: $5 + tax
Jersey Mike's Giant (14'') Original Italian: $13 + tax

prices vary, but those are the prices at the Subway and JM closest to me. yes, the quality difference is vast, but not vast enough to justify about three times the price. a giant Original Italian used to be around $9; at that price sure, but not $13. and like I said, I just get subs from Harris Teeter ($6.99 or $4.99 Friday) which are about 14'' for a whole, or Publix ($6.39 for store brand meat) which are at least 12" for a whole

a JM's Giant sub is twice as much food as a Subway foot long.

which is why it was worth going there until the $10 threshold. thank you for proving my point.

what is your point? you would rather pay a dollar and a half less to get absolute shit from subway instead of a vastly superior sandwich for a dollar and a half more?

whatever floats your boat.

in other words, you are not comparing apples to apples.

to get the same amount of food (quality aside for the moment) you would have to get two footlongs at subway to equal one giant at Jersey Mike's

so

Subway Spicy Italian Footlong (x2): $5 $10 + tax
Jersey Mike's Giant (14'') Original Italian: $13 + tax

meh, whenever somebody says "That's two meals" or "I can make three good meals out of that," I keep in mind that personally, I'd finish the dish in question in a single sitting.

so, like, I wouldn't be buying 2 meals for $13. I'd be buying one huge, delicious, glutton's meal for $13. Which is a different investment altogether.

A subway footlong is not 5 fucking dollars unless it's one of their "here, we'll discount this terrible shit for you to make you feel marginally better about eating this shit" promotions.

Jersey Mikes crushes subway so hard.

^^have you ever seen a giant sub from Jersey Mikes? There is no way, even when I was the largest I've ever been, that I could eat the entire thing. (or you could just get half of that which is a regular sub... the equivalent of a subway footlong in poundage.)

Club sub with mayo, honey mustard, Mike's way, jalapenos and red pepper relish.

Subway is the McDonald's of sub shops.

I used to be able to do a giant back in the days but not anymore.

Yeah we go to JMs like twice a week, and two of us eat meals (sub, chips, drink) for like $17.

I can eat a giant if I want, but it's really not necessary.

I don't think i've been to a subway in at least 5 years

no, I don't know that I have.

but it looks like most of the cold ones are in the neighborhood of 1000-1400 calories, and the hot ones 1300-1700. that doesn't sound too terribly excessive.

still, maybe you are right. I should try this shit and report my findings.

depends on the day. subway runs some legit specials during the week u can get a 6" + chips + drink for like 5.30 after tax. i'll usually hit that up on meatball sub or tuna day.

but jersey mikes overall is a better tasting sub. these days however since one isn't near, i'd only seek it out for a solid dinner.

I wish the regular at Jersey Mike's was just a touch larger. It's slightly less food than I'd want, and the giant is too much for one meal. Still, under almost all conditions I'd rather pay $5-6 for a regular length sub at JM than have a footlong at Subway.

the point is that i was never a huge fan of subs in general because i ate subway for subs... and they ARE fake/shitty tasting in comparison to jersey mikes. Is JM's the absolute best sub on the planet? i'm sure it's not, but for a fairly common chain, the quality is more than i had expected.

Harris Teeter employees build their sandwiches like fucking idiots. Your bite is either all topping and bread or all meat and bread.

$6.25 for the Subway Italian around here, and the JM Giant is 15" and way more food.

Not exactly apples to apples, and not nearly triple the price.

I pretty much always get the #5 at Jersey Mike's. I cant remember the last time I ate Subway, its been several years since I've eaten that crap.

Damn, I might have to hit up JM today thanks to this thread

Extra mayo, and ccasionally add some pepper relish.

This would be the sole thing I eat in a day, I'm not a complete lard-ass. Only like 75% of one

i worked at a couple JMs when I was in high school, and then part of my freshman year of college.

back when my metabolism allowed me to be a human garbage disposal. i would basically just eat there, twice a day. a giant each time. they're still so fucking good. we dont have them here in DC, but last time i was near one, i drove 15 miles out of the way to get one.

Agreed! #8 is amazing (minus cheese). It's definitely worth the money but I will admit I usually only go there when I have the coupons.

are there any Lenny's around the Raleigh area? It's basically a JM knock off, same color scheme, similar menu, red pepper relish. There are a few in Charlotte and they are pretty good.
