There is one in Concord at the Zmax Drag strip in a couple weekends and I was considering attending. Then I saw the price: $55 pre-register or $60 at the event. It used to be $25 or $30 back in 04-06 time frame. Now I'm not sure if it is really worth it to me.

I'm guessing it's with CRSCCA if its at ZMax? SCCA AutoX is often ~$50 without an SCCA yearly membership or $25 with, or thereabouts. The insurance for AutoX has gotten quite expensive, but the SCCA provides much cheaper insurance for the regional clubs if you have a national membership. The national membership costs $65, and my region gives you your first event free if you get a national membership so it ends up paying for itself pretty quickly.Non-SCCA affiliated clubs can carry less insurance than is mandated by SCCA, and therefore often charge less for events. SCCA has jacked up the required insurance in the last couple of years due to a few incidents and getting sued.

Ah, just looked it up, $45 even for SCCA members. ZMax is an extremely expensive (but awesome) site as well, that might be part of it. It's 2-3 times the size of many AutoX sites.

I may just pay the fee, just surprised that I can't drop a $20 anymore.

Drops texa$ on wheels and brakes that he doesn't really needComplains about $30 increase in fees to put those wheels and tires to intended use

^ Ahaha, so true. And exactly like a shitload of ricers around Knoxville that I talk to about AutoX/track days constantly. They'll drop hundreds if not thousands on blingy big brake kits and then run used all weather tires

yes, I know....The problem isn't the extra money there, it is the $600 I will be spending the following weekend that I already know about. It makes sense in my head, I just tell everyone that doesn't give a shit about it here.[Edited on September 8, 2014 at 6:29 PM. Reason : .]

9/8/2014 8:28:29 PM
I said "F that" to autoX years ago on account of the prices and cone duties vs seat timeif you want seat time, go to the GoPro Motorplex (outdoor carts) terrible driving, but you get an idea of the rental cartshttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3GK8FpGBzK4
9/9/2014 9:23:25 PM

big cars are rather pointless on autoX anyway. too much weight and power. people just eat through tires and brakes without enjoying as much as they would, in say, integra, GTI, stevos, or other smaller variety. i see these knobs running their C6 Z06 in SS class and car doesn't even get out of the 1st gear. take it to the track and use its full potential and powerband.

^^Its what I do.

Duke,I never said it is incapable. In fact, just the opposite... it wouldn't be classified in top class if it was. What I mean is that a car of that size and power is really meant for track so you can use all that power. One of the guys at our autoX was killing everyone in his C6 Z06, but that poor car could never stretch its legs. 7L and 505hp so he can get up to 35-45mph.

Yeah, I'll agree with that. It isn't really the hammer of God on an autocross course the way it is on a track. It's very capable, but pretty restrained in that setting relative to its overall abilities. I would never buy a Z06 just to autocross. I'd buy it to thrash road courses in, and do autocrosses periodically because...why not? That sounds like a very slow auto-x, though. I hit prob 60-75 at most autocrosses I've done in the Z06 and Turbo 7.[Edited on September 18, 2014 at 2:30 PM. Reason : ]

I THINK that SCCA actually has a formula or a minimal ratio of track to height or something. If it's lowered a lot, I bet it's probably legal.
9/18/2014 6:14:00 PM
lol, that didn't look like any sort of autox hosted by a large organized club like SCCA.
