New Linklater movie, looks pretty interesting. It was filmed with the same cast for 12 years and follows a kid from age 6 to 19. Seems to be getting a lot of acclaim. http://www.mercurynews.com/entertainment/ci_26189878/boyhood-director-richard-linklater-discusses-making-his12-year

It's really, really good.

I'm pretty psyched for this as well, it opens August 1st at Raleigh Grande.

I wasn't as cool as this kid.

I really enjoyed it. It ran a little long I think, and had a few annoying moments, but overall I thought it was terrific.

caught this last night from a RedBox rental.AWESOME soundtrack.Perhaps it was intended (like our lives?), but the movie was boring, mundane even. Also, I thought the kid's acting got worse as he aged Ethan Hawke was awesome though, and really liked the scenes he was in. Not enough to carry the movie though.Cool concept, but poor execution 2/5

Yea, I was disappointed when Optimus Prime didn't show up to help him fight the drunk dad that made him shave his head.

Nice fallacy there, because I didn't like a 160 min movie about someone's boring ass life, that means I only like explosions

I agree with everything bronco said. I respect the idea, concept, and originality of the movie and have no problem with the praise it's receiving on that front. That being said, I didn't find it that enjoyable of a movie except for Ethan Hawke's character/scenes.I'm truly baffled by all the praise and awards Arquette is getting because I thought she was easily the worst part of the movie. A lot of the other dialogue seemed really bad to me - the scene where the boys are hanging out in the uncompleted house drinking beer and talking about GETTING PUSSY stands out.

i really want to see the "darkest timeline" version of this film. 1. i imagine the drunk dad's kids are probably somewhere dead.2. i kept expecting every quiet driving scene to end in a horrific crash.3. i expected the kid getting picked on in the unfinished house to get pushed into the saw blade and get sliced open4. i watch too many movies where seemingly normal things end horrifically.

^ lol yes

darkest time line of this sounds like the butterfly effect

^ Ha was thinking the same thing.I liked the movie though, but only because it was ambitious and original concept and well executed. But I didn't think the story was really that interesting, there are better coming of age movies out there.

Agree with many of you, Hawke was great.[Edited on January 27, 2015 at 11:35 AM. Reason : movie overall was good, not great]

^^^^^ yesssssi'm glad i wasn't the only one thinking those things. every single time they were in a car, i thought a semi was about to plow into them or something.really hoped he would reconnect with the kids of the drunk guy towards the end of the movie, wanted to see how they turned out.

This was a great movie.

Good but not great. Film was too long, could have used some editing. Arquette wasn't very good.

Arquette was good. I find it strange and sad that so many focused on her when the film in general was so encompassing.
