I got Greensboro, Mobile, and Montgomery. I've never been to Alabama in my life...was born and raised in Johnston County. Interesting. Apparently my answer about calling a road parallel to the main highway a "service road" is what triggered the Alabama cities. I use "service road" and "access road" interchangeably I guess...but I hardly ever use those words. Is this thing any different than that one put out last year that was done (I think) by an NC State guy? Questions seem almost exactly the same.I always have an issue with the question about "what do you call a carbonated beverage?". I just call it a drink. Also, out of sheer curiosity, I'd like to hear what others think about the dinner vs supper thing.I've always called the evening meal supper, with the exception of formal occasions (Christmas dinner, Thanksgiving dinner...regardless of time of day). I've often heard older folks, my dad included, refer to the afternoon meal as "dinner" but I never say that myself. Basically...I almost never say "dinner". And I think I'm in the minority on that.[Edited on July 8, 2014 at 4:20 PM. Reason : dd]

Winston salemgreensboromontgomeryfirst two make sense, as I grew up near there. montomery is an odd ball. quiz seems a little off, as most the maps for my answers didn't include any of these three cities.

Greensboro, NCFort Wayne, INSaint Louis, MOAn interesting list considering I have lived in NC all my life. The darkest red-orange spot (most similar) on my map is exactly where I grew up, so it's accurate (and the spot is surprisingly not on Greensboro itself).]

Montgomery, ALGlendale, CALong Beach, CAAlways thought my dialect was pretty neutral, if only slightly southern. I guess this confirms it. Don't really get the Alabama thing, but I lived in the OC between the ages of 4-6 so I shouldn't be surprised about Cali.

I always seem to get eastern Virginia on these quizzes. NorfolkVA Beach / ChesapeakeRichmondOn the NCSU one I got Newport News as my number one. I'm from Raleigh but my parents are from Baltimore/Raleigh and grandparents are from Philly. I guess it makes sense.I'm also surprised "easement" wasn't listed for the "area of grass between the sidewalk and the street"[Edited on July 8, 2014 at 5:22 PM. Reason : easement]

[old], but still fun to retake.

I got Fresno, Long Beach, and Arlington.I was born on a military base right near Fresno but haven't lived there since I was five. That's pretty damn cool though. I've never been to the other places. My least similar are Minneapolis/Saint Paul, Grand Rapids, and Buffalo. My good friend is from Minnesota and we often talk about how we say a lot of things differently, most notably caramel. I say three syllables and she says two.

NYC, Baltimore I lived in Syracuse, NY from age 5-7 then in western NC for the rest of my childhood...apparently, saying "sneakers" is very much a northern thing

Jacksonville, St. Petersburg, Ft. LauderdaleNC all my life, but my family is from Miami.

I don't know what's wrong with me, but I got Birmingham, Mobile, and Montgomery. I grew up near Greensboro. I'll blame the quiz.

It's got me at Newark/New York/Baltimore... I did live there for like 3 months but otherwise have been in NC most of my life.
7/8/2014 9:52:31 PM
Took it thrice--the first two times I got Newark/Paterson, NYC, and Yonkers. I've never lived up there but my parents are from there (NYC born and north Jersey raised) so it does make sense...sort of. I did lead off with y'all every time. The third time I changed one answer--for athletic shoes I changed "sneakers" to "tennis shoes" as I use the terms interchangeably. Then it returned Raleigh, Richmond, and Newport News. Much better as I lived in Raleigh for 14 years and live in Richmond currently.I grew up in Greensboro but I wasn't able to get that as a return.FYI, regarding dinner vs. supper--I don't use the word supper. Midday meal is lunch, nighttime meal is dinner. However, having been raised in the south, I'm completely comfortable with the concept/usage of supper. I've never really heard people using dinner for the midday meal though I know it exists.

This was pretty cool. I've never noticed some of those things about myself. There are aunts in general, but my aunt is an ant.Anyway, Raleigh, Richmond, and someplace in Florida. Some of my answers were words I've picked up from non-natives.

I retook the quiz a few times, because it fails to consider that I use some words interchangeably.Should have remembered my answers, but oh well#1Winston salemgreensboromontgomery#2:Forth WorthTulsa Lubbock#3:Winston salemgreensboroRichmond#4:Saint LouisRockfordFort Wayne

Yeah, for several I use different words depending on the situation.... like crawfish vs. crawdaddy. It told me Newark, New York, and Montgomery, but I come from a long line of eastern NC rednecks.[Edited on July 9, 2014 at 9:22 AM. Reason : although my map had dark reds all over eastern NC]

took it a few times. Greensboro and Montgomery were always a result. Also received Richmond or Birmingham depending on how i answered the question for the drive-thru beverage store. They have never really had these in Charlotte and I didn't know they existed for a long time, therefore I don't really know what the proper term to call them is.
