^I've experienced the very thing for which this recall is occurring in my wife's former Olds Alero. And if you're not expecting it--on that car, things as small as a minor bump in the road could cause it to cut off--the loss of power assist on your steering and brakes is quite surprising, especially the first time it ever happens. If that were to coincide with someone slamming on brakes in front of you, a sharp turn in the road, etc, you might be screwed.Of course this was in 2010, well before the recall, so I had to buy a replacement ignition switch and install it myself. The plasma bore 5.8 wasn't cost effective at low volumes.They either need to put it in something else or ditch it.It's not a triton engine those are the 2/3 valve iron truck mod motors.The triton 5.4 is going to be gone too. that 1.5 gallons a minute is a silly marketing thing. I'm pretty sure they took the fuel volume flow rate at steady-state peak power on an engine dyno and converted it into some miles per gallon equivalency.

The only place you will get it is from some technical paper or article published. Here is a BSFC map for the 2.4 liter turbo engine in the Caliber SRT-4:You can't calculate BSFC accurately without putting the engine on an engine dyno with the right equipment. You calculate it based on the lower heating value of the fuel (the amount of energy it contains), the torque/brake mean effective pressure, and the fuel mass flow. Typical SI unit is grams/(kilowatt*hour) as shown above. So that means you need:1) an engine dyno. Eddy current or water brake will work if you can fire it with a starter, plus you need at least some way of controlling coolant temperature in the engine.2) some means of getting the engine to run right on a dyno without throwing a gazillion codes (on modern engines)3) a fuel flow meter in the supply line4) a fuel sample sent off to a lab to measure lower heating value. It can vary significantly, unless you are using certification fuel which is $TexasNow you can back calculate it with virtual dyno type programs/spreadsheets but the error is significant there. You could take the airflow reading from the MAF sensor, back calculate fuel flow rate based on wideband o2 reading for air-fuel ratio, guess the crank torque/BMEP based on measured wheel torque, guess the lower heating value based on an assumed LHV for gasoline and an assumed ethanol content.
