News on dslreports has Apex,Cary and WakeForest with 8 channels. Most of the rest of the RDU area has 6 (which is still higher than the normally used 4). Anyone heard anything on this?

Comcast offers 105 down and 20 up but I'm not paying $115/month for it. ~55 down and 12 up is plenty for $35/month.

TWC just emailed me with the AMAZING offer of 20MB down for $64.99 per month! For an entire year as a promo price as long as a sign a price lock guarantee for 2 years!!!!! Even though the price goes up after one year despite the price lock and they would like to be clear it is not a contract.... but I will be charged penalties if I cancel the service before 2 years!!! But it is not a contract! Because they say it isn't! *Equipment and other fees not included*LUCKYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAAAAAYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Where's my credit card?/vent

At least you're not currently get charged $61.99/mo for AT&T Uverse's "Max Plus" Internet package with quoted speeds of 18mbps down, 1mbps up
7/10/2014 4:22:45 PM
The price variations from TWC are crazy to me.I pay $59/mo for 50Mbps down/5Mbps up. And I get it (actually, better during speed tests usually). Although, I'm going to lower it because I really don't need 50Mbps down and would be happy with 30 or even 20 and a lower bill.To see all of the variations here and other websites is just mind blowing. It's like you call, and they just make the price and speeds up on the spot. I get that certain speeds may not be available in some areas. But why the hell is person a paying more than me for lower speeds from the same company. I know the answer is because TWC can/will. But it's just obnoxious at this point.[Edited on July 11, 2014 at 1:21 PM. Reason : .]

$45/month for 80/30 with North State Communications in Greensboro, fiber. They're supposedly going to offer gigabit within the year.$35/month for 30/30, I decided the $10/month upgrade for 80/30 was worth it.Thats the intro price. Next year it'll be $55, then $65 the year after. Still a decent deal.
7/14/2014 10:26:49 AM
Fuck Comcast. Took me 4 days to get shit set up. Oh well it's worth it for $34.99/month. Goes up by 120% the 13th month but because there's competition in Denver (Centurylink Fiber) they continue the offer if you threaten to cancel.
7/15/2014 5:02:42 PM
yes, fuck comcast indeed. I had to run my own lines from the goddamn street.

i wonder what it will cost...because my cheap ass already chafes a little at ~$85 after taxes and fees for my "standard" internet and HD cable package
7/31/2014 3:14:35 PM
personally I hope they increase the upload. Im on a business class package and we have been complaining for years that even the top packages suck for upload.
7/31/2014 5:05:18 PM
Best you can get is still 5mbps? I'm happy with my 12-13 mbps down with Comcast. Still wish it were faster though.
7/31/2014 5:08:25 PM
yeps 5. Weve been asking under our company contract for at least 10 but would like 15-20. Phone plus online meeting plus vid conference within the meeting tops it out.

figured I'd post this question in this thread...I'm getting TWC installed when I move to Raleigh in October. I'd like to have two wired connections (one for living room, one for office upstairs). Is that something that would require two internet accounts? I know that it would require two cable modems, so I wouldn't see any way around having two accounts.I just dont want wires running all down the walls, etc and do not want to rely on WiFi for everything downstairs
9/12/2014 5:59:25 PM
No you can only have one modem per package I believe. Typically you would just need a router and would have to wire it. Is it a house? Do you have access to a crawlspace? I'd just do wifi. Get a new dual band AC router. It'll be fine. You can choose either the 2.4ghz or 5ghz band depending on distance from the router. You can also pick up an extender if you want. Or you could try those power-line networking solutions: http://www.amazon.com/b?node=1194444I think they're up to 500-600mbps now which is plenty for internet.[Edited on September 12, 2014 at 6:54 PM. if you have coax in the other room and don't plan on running cable tv service over the coax, you can run a DECA from the router next to the cable modem to the other room for $cheap. If you want to keep cable tv on the same line, buy a MoCA pair (same thing, different frequency range, costs more money)
9/12/2014 7:17:19 PM
if I use one account, my employer will reimburse me for 50% of the ISP billif I have a dedicated line, they're reimburse me for 100% of the separate line, so it won't be as if I'll be paying for 2 full linesbut 1 account at 50% would still be less than 2 accounts for price of 1 account
9/12/2014 8:06:46 PM
2 internet connections requires a lot of networking gear to be worthwhile (or a spare PC with multiple NICs)
9/13/2014 10:32:41 AM
the way I see it is there would be a wall coax, a cable modem and router in the office room, and a repeat of those 3 in the living room
9/13/2014 10:41:44 AM
and the machines connected to each modem/router would be on completely different networks. if all you care about is outbound, that's fine, but that's generally not the case for a home user
9/13/2014 1:46:45 PM
one would be dedicated to my work computer, one would be dedicated to everything else
9/13/2014 1:58:26 PM
^ TWC will do this, if you get res and biz class. You can also do it with 2 res accounts, as if you have roommates.

I got a phone call from TWC with a "promotion in my area", they're offering to bump me up from Standard (15M) to Extreme (30M), their "Preferred TV" (with ESPNU and NFL Network) package, and Home Phone for $89/month with no equipment rental fees.
9/25/2014 9:21:18 AM
For the RDU area being such a technological hub I still cannot believe how shitty the ISP choices are for a budget of $50 or less, ESPECIALLY if U-Verse doesn't serve your area. I have AT&T DSL - 6 Mbps down and 697 Kbps up Was being charged $51/mo but I bitched them out and am currently enjoying 50% off for 6 months.meh.
9/25/2014 11:56:18 AM
I'm paying I think $60 a month for Uverse 45/5. I'm getting slightly better than 45 down and close to 8 up though.
9/25/2014 3:16:25 PM
before i left raleigh i was paying $55/month for 30/5 from twc
