Must have one hell of a pre-nup. Knock her out cold, and she still beside her man.

since she's a woman, it's entirely her prerogative to:

1) marry a man who knocked her unconscious, dragged her body outside of an elevator, and later lied about it to the media. #iwouldstaytoo

or

2) walk away since men are NEVER allowed to hit a woman for any reason ever. #iwouldleavetoo

there are a handful of other domestic violence cases spanning across the NFL and everybody only cares about Ray Rices situation because it was on camera. Its like if we didnt have to see it its not a big deal

^^and also because it's the only one (that i'm aware of) in which the NFL had already handed down a punishment. If the NFL hands down paltry punishments on these other guys when the times comes, you'll see outcry about that as well.

But yes, the fact that it's on video draws way more attention to it, too

and that fact that's it's on video negates any benefit of the doubt or uncertainty about the severity of his actions. there's no question, he was in the wrong, and he severely overreacted, and he didn't even seem worried after he almost killed her.

So, I must admit that for the first incident, I basically just browsed the headlines and read that it was domestic violence and that he will play again and that people were upset and such. I kind of just thought, meh, maybe they got into an argument and he slapped her or pushed her and it was no big deal. Meaning that based off of how the sports media and the NFL handle it, I think that the general public was led to believe that it was NBD.

But this video surface and blows the whole situation up. Everybody that handled this news and only mentioned that it was just "domestic violence" deserves to get called out. They knew what happened, and just decided to downplay it as a nothing to see her, move on people. This is just embarrassing. To think that we believe that we actually have "media".

^^^when the news first broke, wasn't there video of him dragging her out of the elevator? or at least that video was released shortly after the news broke.

so it's not like the public had nothing to go on from the outset. it was pretty clear rice was waaaay out of bounds from the get go.

There has been video of him dragging his unconscious girl from the elevator online for months. No one, other than headline-browsers, thought he just slapped her or pinched her.

The takeaway here is that it doesn't matter what he did. Abuse is abuse.

Literally the day it happened, there was video of him dragging her from the elevator...

[Edited on September 10, 2014 at 1:26 PM. Reason : I didn't see the punch footage until a few days ago.]

[Edited on September 10, 2014 at 1:27 PM. Reason : the takeaway is that people react differently when they see abuse vs read about it]

^^What he did matters a lot. What if she punched him first, then punched him again, then again, and he had a bloody eye and bloody nose, and he finally reacted by pushing her away? Would that "abuse" be equivalent to what we saw in the video where he overeacts and almost kills her? (although she does appear to spit on him first)

If you can't control your actions reasonably then you are an abuser and you need help. End of story.

The other take away is that this is that 'sanctity of marriage' we as a country are trying so damn hard to protect. They were married for what 2 months? Get the fuck out of here.

Right. So if somebody was beating you down, you'd just control your actions and not react. Right.

This could be it, but where I was reading about it (which was mainly on ESPN I think and one Washington post article), there was no video imbedded, from what I can recall. I think the point is that some news outlets willingly downplayed it but not showing the video and not honestly portraying what happened in the video.

If somebody is swinging at you and bloodying your eyes and nose, why is it so different? Is it just because it's a woman? That seems sexist to seay that a man can't react. Of course, the severity of the reaction should be dictated by the difference in size/strength, and overeaction should be met with severe punishment. But i think it's pretty silly to say that any reaction against a woman would be considered abuse and is equivalent to what ray rice did in the video.

But what Ray Rice did, dude should be spending time in prison.

^ok. this is all hypothetical, but for those who say "you never lay a hand on a lady", let's say the lady (or a man) started clawing his eyes out. Would he be wrong to push her away, since he is the size of a gorilla? Would that be "abuse"?

[Edited on September 10, 2014 at 1:49 PM. Reason : again, rice should be spending time in prison.]

I in no way said that. I said that he severely overeacted and should be spending time in prison.

But from your other comments, you seem to be inferring that "abuse is abuse", and it doesn't matter what the situation is. I'm trying to clarify what you meant by that, and asked you a question to clarify in my last post, but you didn't answer it.

I did but you have relatively no reading comprehension skills.

How is this
Quote :
"let's say the lady (or a man) started clawing his eyes out. Would he be wrong to push her away, since he is the size of a gorilla? Would that be "abuse"?"

No. I don't think saving your eyesight by pushing someone off of you is a loss of control or an overreaction. Let me know if that makes sense to you.

So if that was the sitatution, it does matter what he did, yet you said it didn't matter what he did, "abuse is abuse". And I was making the point that it certainly does matter what he did. He severely overeacted, and that matters. Make sense?

I don't think that self defense (aka your scenario) is abuse, so what you're saying makes no sense. He admitted to what he did before the video was released. He abused her and admitted to it. Your hypothetical situation is not the same.

i like how he drops her head in the middle of the elevator door, does nothing to make sure she is not decapitated by it.......a passer by stopped the door from closing on it.
