All that the checked baggage surcharges have accomplished is overpacked overhead compartments. Fuck being the last person on the plane. My last flight, I had to put my feet on top of my bag because the goddamn bins were full.Of course, it was Kenya Airways. Embraer 190. No room.

After flying for work for 4-5 months last year I can say boarding 1st, or premier (before zone 1) is the best part of my commute. Not only are you always guaranteed a place to put your bag but you get to get off the plane first. This can often make a difference of 20-30 minutes each segment. Not only that but you don't have to deal with all the in-frequent flyers. I'm usually in first or economy comfort and you usually know 90% of the time you won't have to deal with a crying baby, kids, or someone who's never been on a plane before. Sure if you don't have a bag that needs to go in the over head then board right before they close the door if you can time it right. One thing I hate though is standing in line on the plane to sit. I try to avoid lines at all costs. Usually I can get dropped off at the airport by my car service, get through first/premier at security and to my gate in under 15-20 minutes. I'd rather sit right down on the plane and put my headphones on and get back to work or a book then deal with figuring out when the best time to board the plane and avoid a line is. If you don't get priority boarding you probably haven't commuted Monday - Friday for work before. [Edited on May 16, 2014 at 5:17 PM. Reason : s]

Truth. But when I gotta be on the other side of the world for two weeks, I don't have much option but to check my bag. Though this last bunch of flights, I just knew my bag would get lost/left behind. Miracle of miracles...it made it, even after four legs, two of which were delayed as fuck. And I only have silver medallion status with Delta...doesn't get me a whole lot of perks.

Noen is the asshole blocking the aisle while you're trying to get to your seat because he's trying to cram his giant suitcase in the overhead compartment
5/16/2014 11:06:05 PM
Haha. If you do it 3-4 times a week you kind of figure out how to do it quickly. You can kind of pick out the infrequent flyers because they've jammed too much in their suitcase and it won't fit in the overhead.
5/16/2014 11:14:33 PM
I wear business casual and suits along with my steel toed boots and other PPE. I'd wager that most people making 2-3 week trips in the architecture/engineering/construction side of things are like me in that regard, or they've made a conscientious decision to say fuck OSHA and travel light. Construction and manufacturing are two of the largest sectors of our economy, so it's pretty ignorant of you to assume that most travelers don't fit into the mold of what zxappeal and I are saying.[Edited on May 16, 2014 at 11:27 PM. I travel with steel toed boots. Some places you can't get to the server rooms without walking through production, which requires steel toes. These are mine:they travel well and ok if i need to pack light.

^^^I travel frequently with a fair amount of coworkers and partners and I'm pretty sure none of them check a bag. I've never had to wait on anyone to pick up luggage. Just my observations. My only generalization was:
5/17/2014 7:59:26 PM
jesus christ can y'all drop the fucking luggage bullshit? no one fucking cares.
5/17/2014 8:01:41 PM
Another reason I know most commuters carry on their bags is because every damn person always has their suitcase with them in the Delta lounges. Sure they COULD be checking a suitcase AND carrying one on but I highly doubt that.
5/17/2014 8:03:48 PM
I normally check all my dildos but cram everything else in my carry-on.
