I don't have any special/unique cocktail recipes, I just try to make everything with fresh and/or local ingredients products. I've got a buddy who makes his own ginger beer and lime cordials. So we always use his stuff when making a Moscow Mule or Dark and Stormy. Same goes for our Tanqueray and Tonics. Local guy makes a delicious homemade tonic that has been on some "favorite" lists in Bon Appetit and other foodie mags.I fresh squeeze lemon and lime juice for our margaritas. Usually about half an ounce or each, 1 oz of grand marnier, 2 oz of Avion Blanco or Sauza Gold...half ounce of simple syrup if I want it sweet.Sometimes my wife will find a cocktail she really likes when we go out and I'll go out and grab the ingredients to make at home. Lately we've been making "The Last Word"...a pretty refreshing gin cocktail that's good during the summer:1 oz gin (we use Farmers...Tanqueray's flavor is a little too strong and messes up the cocktail)1 oz fresh lime juice1 oz green Chartreuse1 oz Luxardo maraschino liquerPour all ingredients into a cocktail shaker with ice, shake, and strain into a chilled martini glass.Pretty tasty.

let's talk Bitters for a moment. I mostly use Angostura though i do have some orange bitters i toss in my OF from time to time. Have any of you experimented with other brands such as Peychaud's? Any thoughts or recommendations?

Strawberry lemon sangria1 apple4 cups lemon lime soda2 lemons1 cup strawberries1/2 cup rum1 bottle white wineSlice everything thin. Toss in a pitcher. Pour rum and wine. Let sit for 5-6 hours. Add soda just before serving. Drink.

Might be a little late as summer has been going on for a while. But we've got a few hot months left...so I'll post my favorite classic summer cocktail...the mojito...IMO, the most refreshing drink for hot weather.- Tear about 5 or 6 large mint leaves and throw them into the shaker (light tear...like in half, and maybe one extra)- Add 3/4 oz of simple syrup- Muddle- add ice, 2 oz of Cruzan Aged Rum (light rum), 1 oz of "fresh" lime juice- shake somewhat vigorously for about 10-15 seconds- pour everything into glass- add about 3 oz of soda water to mixing tin, swirl around, and then top off drink- stir lightlyExtra Info:- We make this a lot because we have mint in our garden. Fresh mint is a definite plus with this drink.- Everyone has different rum preference...I definitely prefer light/white rums. I helped open a Mexican/beach bar one time and we experimented with a ton of different rums with mojitos. We always came back to light/white rum. I've had delicious mojitos with different rums...but still prefer clear.- Bacardi Superior is a very safe go-to...but I think Cruzan is better and cheaper. You don't need to go too fancy because you lose the taste of great rum with all of the other ingredients. I personally think Cruzan is a great medium.- If you can pick some limes out of the fridge and freshly squeeze them, then perfect. But we make a lot of cocktails at the house that use lime juice (especially during the summer). So I normally buy a pack of limes and squeeze them all into a clear, small ketchup container and throw them into the freezer. If I know it's cocktail time, I take it out to thaw the night before. This saves a ton of time, especially if you have company.- I pour the soda water into the mixing tin and swish it around to get the remaining mint pieces and any other ingredients left.- 1:1 simple syrup ratio.- Don't be afraid to experiment. I mostly prefer the classic mojito, but definitely don't mind mixing it up every now and then. I have a friend from law school who's wife makes her own jellies and jams for retail sale (http://salliesgreatest.com/) who has just started making simple syrups with the same stuff. Used a blackberry/sage simple syrup for our mojitos today...and it was fucking awesome. Definitely recommend trying that (whenever they make it to retail), or experimenting with other flavors in place of the simple syrup. Just make sure it's nothing too strong to take away from the mint. A bar in downtown Charleston won the Bacardi Mojito Challenge a couple years running with a vanilla bean/cinnamon/pineapple infused rum with a lemongrass simple syrup. Did a variation on a sidecar the other night. I was out of orange liqueur so I did2:1:1 brandy:lemon juice:Evan Williams Peach CobblerIt was pretty good. I've had the peach cobbler around for a while -- a gift from a friend cleaning out their liquor reserves -- and I couldn't figure out what to do it with. Fresh lemon would have been better, but it was pretty comparable to my usual sidecar.

Man, I think that if I could have a good hefeweizen/witbier, a good Cabernet Sauvignon, and Dark & Stormies, I'd never really want too much for any other booze. I like lots of other stuff, but those three alone could keep me very satisfied in terms of drink.

I love crown maple, so here are my fav recipes.#1 SoCo vanilla eggnog and crown maple. Bad part is it is so good you will down a weeks worth of saturated fat in an hour #2 glass of fresh apple cider, 2 shots of crown maple, and maybe a half shot of fireball cinnamon whiskey. Tastes exactly like a carmel apple from the fair. Do not use too much fireball, it ruins it quick and makes it taste like fireball candy only.
