Blizzard's upcoming free to play MOBA. Got an Alpha invite for this a few days ago. Anyone else get one? http://www.heroesofthestorm.com/en-us

My buddy has the alpha but says its pretty buggy right now. I'm pretty psyched though since i love moba's, but want something shorter/new. i have 1000+ games in LOL, but i find myself only playing the occasional ARAM or Dominion currently. I have lower patience for 45+ minute matches where some idiot you get paired with eventually screws it up for you. As such, I only do normals with a team of 3-4+.The teamwork focus and objectives sound much more like the gameplay I like and the short games should fit better with my attention span and old man lifestyle. I hope it's good.

just got into the alpha. they did a good job with the tutorial for folks who have never MOBA'd before. I'm pretty excited to get into this more.

Been playing a little bit again since a couple friends picked up the founders packs. I'm not a big MOBA guy. Played LoL all of twice, and didn't really care for it. I like the variety of maps, and I like the heroes. I dislike strongly how badly your team is punished for having 1 random idiot who doesn't know what they're doing. I feel like there is a lot of that going around in random Quick Games right now. Maybe that's just the way it is with the genre? I dunno. I've read interviews with the developers where they specifically point out that the heroes are not balanced and that it's intentional. However, I have no desire to grind up to ranked play where the team comps are exactly the same game after game. They need to do something to encourage more variety.
2/5/2015 3:19:33 PM
Map variety can help with that in ranked. Some specialist like gazlowe are decent in dragonshire but meh in other maps.

Never played a MOBA before, gave this game a shot, and im hooked. Anybody still playing?
6/9/2015 9:51:36 PM
This is the game they played on ESPN 2.

Yup.. fun stuff. So nobody playin eh? Diabloish map coming out June 30th.

I've been playing a lot of solo Quick Match lately. If I was taking this game more seriously I wouldn't have as much fun with it; it's a pretty easy experience to rage out over. I've got a couple friends who play a lot of Hero and Team League and they take this shit way too seriously. Excited for the new heroes and new map coming up on the 30th.

I've been playing a lot lately. CptCat#1670

I've played a lot of League, started playing this recently with some friends. It is definitely a casual version of league. Far more forgiving of a game and not as easy to tell when someone is doing poorly, or even when someone is doing well. That isn't to say that is a bad thing, but I prefer the feel and game play of League a lot more.
6/18/2015 3:00:27 PM
As a long time league player (and now "long time" hots player) I disagree. It generally is VERY obvious to me who sucks on the team. At the higher levels of play it definitely has a lot of skill though there are definitely less mechanics to worry about. I still rather enjoy it.
6/18/2015 9:34:01 PM
Maybe I just haven't played enough. I'm only level 10 or so, but there just doesn't seem to be a sense of reward when I do well like there is in League. It definitely is more of a team game though, in League you can get a huge lead solo, roam and just carry a game.. this there is no chance of that really. I dunno, I play games with Valla where I manage to deal 20k more siege damage and 5k more damage to heroes then the next highest on my team, yet it still doesn't feel like I contributed more then anyone else. Compared to League where when I carry a game I know it, and when I feed another lane and cause my team to lose I know it. Maybe its just a lack of games played here and I'll start feeling it more eventually. Having said that, I do like the skill system and think it is really interesting, I wish League had some sort of branching system like this. But I guess the branching system in League are items/runes, but those don't fundamentally change how you play someone as much.[Edited on June 18, 2015 at 10:49 PM. Reason : a]

yeah i felt that way at first. you arent going to get a great sense, but you know when you did something awesome just like in other games (chaining ults, 2v1'ing folks, monster push). its definitely different and not for everyone, but as someone who was tired of summoner's rift and laning, it was a good change for me.
6/18/2015 11:03:10 PM
The individual accomplishments are there, they're just a little different and take a bunch of map/hero knowledge to pull off. I've seen players single-handedly keep my team in the game while the rest of us were off being dumbfucks and feeding the enemy team experience. Here is a great gif of Chen keeping his team in the game by himself:Quick Matches are crap shoots where it's harder to see individual contribution to the team. I'd suggest you get to Hero League and play with folks who take it a little more seriously and you can begin to really appreciate good players.

Nice steal there
6/19/2015 8:16:22 AM
I tried 2 games but couldn't really get into it. No store, no individual stuff... its not a bad game just another version of League with less depth. The fucking pirate/spider things in the middle of the map need to STFU though.
6/19/2015 11:14:47 AM
I'm super duper diggin this game right now. Love the characters, aesthetic, the loud rockin music and voice effects, and the synergy with Hearthstone. I never thought I'd spend money on a MOBA, But I just purchased a Power Pack to keep my double XP going
6/20/2015 6:34:35 PM
Logged into the PTR and tried the new map. It's pretty awesome.
6/24/2015 3:15:31 PM
I've been thinking about checking out the PTR. I play a lot of Brightwing and Malfurion and they both got the treatment it looks like (for better or worse).
6/24/2015 4:38:14 PM
Yeah Malf looks like he's getting buffed nicely, while Brightwing looks to be taking a bit of a hit, but the changes may not be all bad. She's probably just getting a little more balanced. I'm happy they're nerfing Illidan's Metamorphosis, and pulling TLV back a little.
6/24/2015 6:34:52 PM
I want to try out new map, but part of me wants to wait till official release. You don't get xp or gold from playing the preview?
6/24/2015 7:45:57 PM
Time to revive this thread boyzzzzz. This game is the most well ironed, well balanced moba out there now. It's a shame they opened it open in alpha cause it's so good right now. Blizzard always does right.NC States Heroes of The Storm team is top ten in the Heroes of The Dorm tourney!
1/18/2017 11:35:42 PM
Is it really? That's pretty sweet.]
1/19/2017 8:18:57 AM
it is pretty solid. they do have some OP heroes come out, but they fix them pretty quickly in comparison to back when i played lol. im glad they finally changed HL to solo only since that's how i always queued anyway.
1/19/2017 10:34:04 AM
meh I dont like the change really. TL is still a disaster regardless, and there's no proven statistical difference between allowing duo que's and not.
1/19/2017 11:19:57 AM
what would you guys say is the best Char/strategy for taking down a cho gall? He's even being used in Ranked play lately and wrecking shop/
1/19/2017 12:06:05 PM
anything with percent dmg. add in vulnerability helps as well. add in some cc to keep in stuck in that percent dmg and you are golden.having good pushers since part of his cost is lane presence.[Edited on January 19, 2017 at 1:03 PM. Reason : .]
1/19/2017 1:03:16 PM
tychus specifically is a good choice against Cho'gall
1/19/2017 7:05:42 PM
truth. at lvl 20 you can do 3% per autoattack + 5% from a thrown grenade (maybe it is 6). that melts any tank. he's one of my favorites since ppl won't yell at you for attacking the tank (even when it is a viable strat).
1/20/2017 10:24:34 AM
Oh nice, need to start working on my Tychus game
