NC people don't understand how the highway works.

Left Lane = I got shit to do
Right Lane = I don't want to go home so I'll just stay on the road as long as possible.

Every damn morning on I-270, there are a handful of people going anywhere between 40 and 55 mph in the left lane. They are usually Hispanic people, old Asian people, or jerks

This doesn't bother me as much as the fuckers I get behind on the 2 lane highway from the interstate to my house going 35 in a 50. It happens 4 out of 5 days a week on my way home from work.

NC is nowhere as bad as the state of fucking VA
and lets get specific ... NOVA is the fucking worst at shitty drivers

NOVA has been the worst area to drive in the country for a few years now.

^^ Virginia Statute 209.20.1(b) -

1. When driving on a 4 lane highway, and there is a car with Virginia plates driving at or below the speed limit in the right lane, another Virginia driver is required to pull beside said vehicle in the left lane and decelerate to equal his speed, thus ensuring both cars are side by side, allowing no traffic from behind to pass in the left lane.

2. Both drivers are required by law to remain in this position for equal to or greater than ten (10) miles.

I spent 7 months in Richmond, it was just as bad there. I wanted to move back to NC to get away from the driving up there. I watched a lady run into the back of a stopped truck on a straight part of 95 (Straight for atleast a mile). I think phones are the problem.

Nah. The DCM is always ranked like #1 or #2 in terms of worst traffic congestion and worst drivers. My theory is that because so many people come to this area from not only all over the country....but the world, they bring their bad driving habits with them. This shit is bonkers.

I can usually do 50-100 mile stretches, but a dickhead long-haul driver inevitably slows my roll. Yesterday everybody played by the rules

truck drivers are the worst, going 68 or so in the right lane, then getting behind some goober going 67 or so and, instead of breaking, merge to pass when everyone in the left lane is going 80+, invariably backing traffic up for several miles while it takes them 10 minutes to get around

I've been in Richmond for almost 2 years now.

Everybody drives about 5-10 under the speed limit. It's maddening as fuck. One other difference i've noticed is that there are a lot more old people here than in the triangle area. but still, fuck that noise, they need to get their old asses to florida.

288 was my worst nightmare. Good lord I've never seen a area where no one sped.

Also I'm convinced Richmond is a retirement community with a NASCAR track.

Agreed. Can't stand it when I'm on a mountain or incline or something and it is a one lane road. They obviously have to brake like crazy going around any turn and I'm not able to pass. Mothertruckers.

Isn't this because the VA speeding fines can reach four figures?

Its not about the amount of the fine. In VA if you are caught going over 80 (doesn't matter what the limit is) its reckless driving. Which is not a traffic ticket, its a misdemeanor. And also I adopted a speed up slow down strategy while living there, I memorized all the little turn around spots, and slow down before I get to them. VA cops like to sit in the woods EMPORIA!!!!!

I hate how when Im driving like 80 or so in the 70, passing a bunch of slow people,
then there is a gap maybe 3 or 4 car lengths, the asshole behind you starts blinking and shit
expecting you to get over, even though you would get boxed in by the line of faster cars behind me
I just think to myself, would they get over in the same situation? probably not.

whats even funnier is when they try to pass on the right, and I dont adjust the cruise,
and they get themselves boxed in for being impatient

thanks, I guess im dangerous cause there really isn't time to get over, let them by, and then get back over without slowing down

but slowing the slightly faster guy down, on hell no

im guessing you would pull over and box yourself in when you get in that situation rather than get over a mile or 2 down the line when you wont have to slow down?

I seriously doubt it, regardless of what you say here

if i have a line of cars behind me I pull over, even if that means i have to wait for that line of cars to pass me. its generally not a dilemma i face though because i don't camp in the passing lane.

you know, because i am a safe driver

it's dangerous to bunch up cars like that, its how accidents happen. get the fuck out of the way before you kill someone, you idiot.

yeah, im sure you would post that here, I doubt you would feel inclined to be slowed down cause some asshole wants to slow you down so they can get somewhere quicker

unless it has flashing lights, where they are going and how fast they get there is no more important that it is for me

the dude wanting to go 90+ in the 70, I guess you consider him to be the "safe" driver

its not camping in the left lane if you pull over once you pass all the slow cars, im just not slowing down for some asshole to get somewhere 5 mins faster

so im an idiot cause I don't agree with you, hope you never have to do anything with a group decision, moron

the reporter on the nightly news always says "Speed was believed to be a factor" when describing fatal motor vehicle accidents

you never hear "Driving in the left lane was believed to be a factor..."

it all depends on the the speed differential

if a guy is doing 70 in a 70 in the left lane and bunching up traffic he is a lot more dangerous than someone doing 73 in that lane, or 75, or probably 80.

yeah, it all depends on how much a moron you are

people aren't going to cater to someone wanting to go faster if it means they will have slow down

I get over for the faster car when it doesn't slow me down, im thinking the fast dude will do the same

if im going 80, and I get over, the 85 guy will hopefully get over for the 90 guy behind him when he gets a chance, but if there isn't enough room to do it without slowing down, the 90 guy just has to wait a little longer

not really, you keep telling me how im gonna get someong killed

and I tell you that im no different from the dude who wants to go too fast and will prolly get someone killed too

and I bet youre an asshole on the road too, cause they are usually the ones who get into pissing contests in this thread every time it comes around

the safe drivers generally steer clear

and you know what, my comment here wins the argument

Hey guys,
Saw this thread and thought I'd check in to see if the left lane driving issue has been permanently resolved yet. Pretty sure TWW has a handle on this and it will never be an issue again, but I would appreciate your feedback to confirm.

Also, are the rules for tipping fixed and fully adhered to? If not, maybe we could get some more discussion on them to make sure they're fully resolved to everybody's satisfaction.

It's annoying to get stuck behind a "slow" person in the left lane, but I'm actually more annoyed by left lane drivers who:

- Think the speed limit gets bumped up by 20MPH
- Think it's safe to tail gate you and then blind you with their high beams at those speeds
- Think they have a right to practically run you off the road if you take more than 2 seconds to try and make a safe merge out of that lane
