Football? Lose yards.Hockey? Lose a man to the box or give up a penalty shot.Even soccer you get a free kick or a PK depending on the situation.Basketball sucks.[Edited on March 20, 2014 at 9:57 PM. Reason : a]

Hack a Pack is good strategy. FYI State did the same thing in 83, all the way to a championship
3/20/2014 9:58:06 PM
It's working for them tonight since NCSU can't seem to hit a free throw to save their life in the second half.
3/20/2014 9:59:55 PM
LOL Hack a Pack, comes back from 16 down. Perfect. Thats the cheapest bullshit I've ever seen. Literally no other sport allows you to do shit like that and win.
3/20/2014 10:02:22 PM
dumb thread
3/20/2014 10:05:12 PM
this sounds like some bullshit a carolina fan would postlike that one UNC fan who said that attacking the football and trying to force a fumble wasn't in the spirit of the game and should be against the rules
3/20/2014 10:05:39 PM
^
3/20/2014 10:06:17 PM
it was a smart strategy, they realized we couldn't shoot free throws for shit and won. can't blame them for that.that said, I hope Louisville beats them by 100 and they all get torn ACLs
3/20/2014 10:06:49 PM
^^^Kinda like how State fans blame the refs for every UNC loss?
3/20/2014 10:17:27 PM
If college basketball was a real sport, Danica and some 50 year olds would be competing at the highest level
3/20/2014 10:22:08 PM
like fouling at the end of a game, inconsistent officiating is a basketball staple
3/20/2014 10:23:19 PM
If college basketball was sport it wouldn't suck.
3/20/2014 10:32:55 PM
Jim Valvano would disagree, seeing as how he won a national championship by using this strategy
3/20/2014 10:50:22 PM
Gottfried should've gone "fuel only" during the last timeout of regulation
3/20/2014 10:51:07 PM
You realize the double bonus was created because of nc state?
3/20/2014 11:09:44 PM
alternately we can gameplan for it and learn to shoot free throws
3/20/2014 11:17:44 PM
They shot worse than us.. We should have done it right back
3/20/2014 11:19:30 PM
Shooting a free throw is arguably the easiest thing to do out of the four major sports. None of the other sports offer an uncontested chance to score. Shame on whoever cannot capitalize.
3/21/2014 8:20:42 AM
YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME
3/21/2014 8:26:58 AM
Its part of the game, brah...
3/21/2014 8:28:51 AM
Even basketball you get a free throw depending on the situation.
3/21/2014 8:53:39 AM
Maybe this will spur a rules change. At 15 fouls or so it becomes 2 shots and the ball. This will allow for the fouling tactic to still be used at the very end of games, but get rid of the ridiculousness of fouling with over 3 minutes left and turning the game into over an hour of a FT shooting contest. Basketball has no place for what happened last night.
3/21/2014 8:58:37 AM
Basketball does have a place for it and it just happened. This isn't a new tactic. Just make the free throws.
3/21/2014 9:02:06 AM
I think he means that basketball has no place for college level athletes that can't make a free throw, something I could fucking do.
3/21/2014 9:03:34 AM
You guys are missing the point. Them fouling us gave us every opportunity to put the game out of reach. We choked. Period.
3/21/2014 9:04:15 AM
I meant basketball is a game supposed to be played up and down the court. I get that we lost because we couldn't make FTs, but basketball is not a FT shooting contest. Basically no basketball was played the last 3-4 "minutes" of that game. At the very least just start calling that shit what it is, an intentional foul.
3/21/2014 9:09:28 AM
I kinda agree with Doss2k.In a situation like the one last night, where it was obvious to everyone that the fouls were intentional, they should be called as intentional fouls.
3/21/2014 9:31:53 AM
they had two players foul out before the end of regulation due to the process. It is a risk to take, and it worked out for them. Unfortunately for us, we couldn't make our free throws. It was abysmal what happened at the line that second half, but I don't disagree with what StL did there. I think that a lot of us are just a little butt hurt that the wolfpack were on the shit end of that stick. And none of you will make me think any differently, because this is the first time I've heard anyone bitching about this, something that happens a lot in other games. It just usually doesn't work out in the fouling team's favor.
3/21/2014 9:39:13 AM
Basketball relies on shooting and making shots. We shot a lot in the last 3-4 minutes...we didn't make enough of those shots.Move on.[Edited on March 21, 2014 at 9:41 AM. Reason : .]
3/21/2014 9:41:07 AM
We failed to execute the most basic fundamental part of the game in the most crucial part of the game. The loss is on our team. I do agree that some of the fouls should have been intentional. If you wrap your arms around a guy that should be intentional. There's no play on the ball.

I don't know what happened in this particular game but I agree with the OP 100% and this is the #1 reason I can't stand basketball. Yes it is a strategy and yes it is allowed. You can say that about farting in a crowded elevator, too, but doing it still makes you an asshole. If fouls are undesirable they should be penalized, not rewarded. If fouls are OK, don't stop the game every time they happen. i have been stuck for two years in a country that only plays soccer, a sport which I loathed to begin with and which nearly induces vomiting in me now, and I still at least have to give it credit for not having this level of dumbassery.

3/21/2014 11:16:00 AM
it was really just tj that shat the bed at the line. if the ball was going to lee/turner/barber/lewis our guards we would've been fine.
3/21/2014 11:48:04 AM
3/21/2014 12:43:58 PM
If we were even a 65% free throw shooting team which is substantially below the league average we would have won
3/21/2014 1:02:45 PM
We're lucky St Louis shot like shit from the line too (12/26 v our 20/37). Should've just used their strategy.
3/21/2014 1:15:42 PM
Is this for real? Are we really having this discussion?
3/21/2014 4:21:29 PM
If we hadn't fucked up the gimme points, that strategy would have stopped quickly.
3/21/2014 4:26:33 PM
^ This. Shaquille O'Neal could've won that game with his free throw shooting. We didn't.
3/21/2014 4:35:47 PM
3/21/2014 5:58:52 PM
just wanted to let everyone know that I hate soccer
3/21/2014 8:12:30 PM
If there were magic spray in basketball we could've fixed TJs ankle.
3/21/2014 8:17:28 PM
i agree with OPthe half should be 35-45 minutes. clock only stops for time outs. add a free throw shot clock .[Edited on March 22, 2014 at 7:15 AM. Reason : .]
3/22/2014 7:11:32 AM
^there is, you have 10 seconds to shoot a free throw. the refs keep the time.
3/22/2014 4:26:25 PM
The last 5 minutes of a game takes what? 20 min?
