I just thought that I could give some credence to my username by distributing some of my music for TWW to rip apart and hate. There is just one song here now, but I should have another 2 added by Tuesday.https://soundcloud.com/myvitruvianman/meet-me-in-hamburgI would really appreciate any feedback. Obviously, when you make your own music you put a lot into it to the point that it becomes an obsession, and having feedback from the outside world is crucial toward its development. Thanks!

you need a mic for your banjo too, yo[Edited on March 10, 2014 at 8:54 AM. Reason : well i guess you need another banjo first, but still]
3/10/2014 8:54:30 AM
It's am instant club banger
3/10/2014 9:27:41 AM
^^Thanks man for the tip. Yeah, I have/had one on it, but I just don't have the equipment to record two tracks at once. I actually pulled this off using a mac and a decent but not great mic.I also did not have the time for multiple tracks. But, you really can't hear the Banjo that well this way.^^Thanks for the support

I listened. I dug it. No feedback cause I don't know how music works.
3/10/2014 12:10:17 PM
^ If it gets stuck in your head and you listen to it more than once, that is usually good.

Clawhammer's the way to go
3/10/2014 3:54:50 PM
I like the way that I do it a bit better, but I experimented with that and lots of Scruggs style. I don't stcik to one style though, but I just wanted to do something differnet. It is kind of like travis picking but on a banjo, this tract does not really bring it that well becasue I did not have the banjo plugged in. But it is just a demo.[Edited on March 10, 2014 at 4:06 PM. Reason : d]

Pretty good.
3/10/2014 6:08:59 PM
Although I don't care for your pronunciation of Hamburg.
3/10/2014 6:19:25 PM
https://soundcloud.com/myvitruvianman/cant-get-to-bonnarooUploaded a new song. This one features Scruggs style picking and is about a trip to Bonnaroo.Hopefully you enjoy
3/11/2014 4:10:22 AM
Bump for Bonnaroo
3/11/2014 2:00:55 PM
It needs a bridge about what you're missing out on at bonnaroo instead of one of the repeats of the refrain. i like the chords at the beginning... maybe they could come back in there a couple times and break up the picking. All in all, i think i like your other song better.
3/11/2014 2:11:59 PM
yeah, I thought something similar when I uploaded it today. Thanks!
3/11/2014 2:15:49 PM
I would like to make a demo tape of about five or six songs including these two. I just need to find the most affordable way to get the type of producing quality that people have these days. Your average guy playing to empty stands at a farmers market will have a completely polished CD.I don't have anything close to that.
3/11/2014 5:24:07 PM
Needs more saxophone
3/11/2014 6:10:25 PM
are you making fun of my singing voice?
3/11/2014 6:11:58 PM
I like it. dial in the singing a little
3/11/2014 6:17:56 PM
Yeah, I know. But I think that if ihad the proper time and resources I could polish that up.But yeah, any tips on that would be great. I never took a lesson at all.[Edited on March 11, 2014 at 6:42 PM. Reason : c]

Thanks for all of the views TWW!
3/11/2014 8:48:59 PM
I like this. Generally pleasant. Agree that you need to tighten up the singing because your pitch wanders a bit.
3/12/2014 10:23:10 AM
Thanks, I am fine with that if it is the major problem. I have been practicing on keeping pitch and it has improved some since I first started. ´Got any recording tips?
3/12/2014 11:30:54 AM
I have done some single mic recordings of vocals and acoustic guitar. They turned out awful. I wish I could help you. Good luck.
3/12/2014 11:33:22 AM
Yah, that is what this is. In just two or three takes.
3/12/2014 11:38:29 AM
3/12/2014 12:02:33 PM
It takes a lot of experience to mix it correctly. Often times tracks are slpiced in and out from different takes to get the best cut, and it can be a load of work for a noob.
3/12/2014 1:53:35 PM
I like it. Of the two, I prefer meet me in hamburg...that one had me nodding along by the end. Definitely need to work on your pitch, but the fundamentals are solid.
3/12/2014 6:58:55 PM
Ahh, thanks for the comments man. I put those two up there because they differ a lot in the style that the banjo is played. I am trying to figure out which works out best so that I don't have to stray too much from finger picking, because then I might as well just use a guitar. This kind of motivates me to put another 5 or 6 songs up if I can ever record them.
3/13/2014 7:18:28 AM
maybe the lyrics are the issue with the bonnaroo song. try these on for size Oh my wife won't let me go up to Bonnaroo. She says I've got responsibilities, my young son needs me, and there's just too much to do. The roof's caving in and the yard's on fire, but I'm singing songs about a flat tire, my wife won't let me go up to Bonnaroo. Ohh my wife won't let me go up to Bonnaroo, She says we're too broke and my job's a joke, there's not much I can do. She spent my last euro so I can't go, so I guess I'll stay here and play my banjo, and piss her off by singin' songs 'bout not wanting to say I'm sorry!]
3/13/2014 12:08:14 PM
I dont think that you get the point of the Hamburg song.
3/13/2014 1:04:28 PM
Probably. Would you care to elaborate? I was just speculating that it may have been an irritating sentiment to hear oft-repeated and a funny song popped into my head, sorry
3/13/2014 1:16:08 PM
just kidding. I loved those lyrics, in fact may think about using them as a bridge or outro. I'll give you production credits, OK?
3/13/2014 1:58:01 PM
uploaded a profile photo. Any thoughts?

https://soundcloud.com/myvitruvianmanHe guys, I posted two new songs that I recorded a while ago, but just recently plugged into Logic and had them "produced". Since I got a lot of good feedback from the last go around, I would really appreciate any additional help: especially to some of those posters that gave some good tips for recording and mixing! If your time is limited, I am personally a big fan of Cooler than Paul Rudd, I think that it has some potential.https://soundcloud.com/myvitruvianman/cooler-than-paul-rudd[Edited on July 6, 2014 at 9:20 AM. regarding the thread or the music? I understand how it may look, but you have to understand that it can be difficult to get feed back sometimes. So, I find it useful to just put it out there and if somebody is interested then they can give it a try. Personally, I love listening to music that is not "polished" yet, because oftentimes the polishing takes away something key.[Edited on July 23, 2014 at 1:34 PM. Reason : th]

7/23/2014 1:45:33 PM
Whooaahh, thanks bro, thanks for the encouragement. The problem is that the music industry in a way controls what kind of music the masses are exposed to. Because of this, amazing talents (such as Townes Van Zandt) go unnoticed until somebody famous picks up their song or (more likely in todays world) a very keen director will put it in a movie. So, a lot times you can stumble upon amazing stuff that just does not get any exposure, which means that putting more things out their for people to stumble upon can only be a good thing.
7/23/2014 1:54:12 PM
btt if anybody is still interested.I definitely think that this is one of the better ones that I have recorded to date. Also, it is a train song for people that are into that sort of thing. https://soundcloud.com/myvitruvianman/thank-god-for-the-trainAs always, thanks for the feedback.[Edited on September 1, 2014 at 4:28 PM. I listened to that last song. Its pretty cool man. Your banjo playing is pretty dope. I listened to some of your other songs as well and it sounds like you've definitely improved your recording technique quite a bit. I'm not sure if you did a separate vocal track, but it still sounds like its all live which is essential IMO for folk/bluegrass. I'm Krallum and I approved this message.
