"in the ocean somewhere"

They're just on the LOST island. NBD
3/8/2014 5:10:07 AM
if all 239 people died essentially this would put this airline out of business?
3/8/2014 6:09:08 AM
^insurance. Will put the airline in major trouble but probably not kill it. Im waiting to see if they actually find the thing. I think its going to turn out like that french airplane a few years back that they found a little wreckage (which even that they have not found) but never found the plane.
3/8/2014 7:06:01 AM
Yeah, this went down in the ocean just like that Air France flight a few years ago.
3/8/2014 7:33:53 AM
Looks like we are going to go to war with Vietnam.

3/8/2014 8:25:45 AM
so i thought planes were pretty buoyant? (see hudson miracle)
3/8/2014 8:43:12 AM
yeah if the plane is intact and all of the cavities don't fill with water...when it (probably) viololently smashes into the ocean it probably got ripped apart into several pieces
3/8/2014 9:00:35 AM
Breaking news: plane found in oil suck
3/8/2014 9:28:11 AM
Turns out the same plane was involved in a tarmac collision that damaged the wingtip in 2012. Makes me wonder about micro stress fractures. My other first thought was a bomb/missile. Just so rare to see a big bird go down mid-flight, esp a 777.
3/8/2014 9:50:39 AM
Also, some interesting stories on some of the boards I follow. Turns out there's the name of an Italian and and Austrian on the passenger manifest, neither of the folks were actually on the plane. They said their passports were stolen in the previous months, possibly while visiting Thailand.
3/8/2014 10:01:14 AM
I think it safe to say that we should all stay the fuck away from SE Asian flights. Their safety records over the past several years are abysmal.
3/8/2014 10:14:46 AM
How deep is it in the area it went down?
3/8/2014 11:01:33 AM
Sounds like terrorists' work. Might be a group from a region that wants independence from China.

^^of course...silly me]
3/8/2014 1:21:49 PM
infants often dont sit in "seats", they sit in parents laps. So the seat/person count doesnt line up.
3/8/2014 2:49:28 PM
^ I usually just stuff infants into the overhead compartments or store them beneath the seat in front of meor (if they fit) I just cram them into my suitcase and check them prior to takeoffhowever, your consideration still holds...they don't get seats. Good point.]
3/8/2014 3:05:27 PM
I thought they found a beacon last night but cnn is not reporting this. Interesting that at least 2 people were flying on stolen passports. This may be common but seems odd. Maybe it's like that twilight zone where they flew into a vortex in space that took them back in time, they when they tried to return they were a few decades early.
3/8/2014 5:12:47 PM
Is this a general problem with Bowing aircraft? Or just an issue with this particular Bowing plane? Either way, Bowing needs to get their shit together.https://fbcdn-sphotos-f-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc1/t31/1414956_10203385831553413_188085325_o.jpg
3/8/2014 5:38:08 PM
The report of the beacon was quickly denied by authorities.... So much sketchiness.

Possible door found, pending confirmation. Also they are looking at radar scans, they think it might have pulled a U-turn. Anyone heard if theyve deployed a sub or anything capable of locating blackboxes? Ive just heard boats/ships and planes.[Edited on March 9, 2014 at 10:14 PM. Reason : .]
3/9/2014 10:12:41 PM
I heard they've employed whale sharks
3/9/2014 11:43:39 PM
I don't think they will use subs until they have a confirmed crash site. Remember it took 2 years to find the box and most bodies of the one out of Brazil, I don't think we'll have any complete answers soon.
3/10/2014 12:31:18 AM
They dead. That's your answer.
3/10/2014 1:17:19 AM
We can have internet on international flights now, but still somehow lose an entire jumbo jet? Just seems weird...
3/10/2014 1:58:02 AM
Still kinda amazes me that there isn't a better system for tracking flights.

Supposedly some obscure group called the Chinese Martyrs' Brigade is claiming responsibility, but there's reason to believe that's a hoax.
3/10/2014 10:28:00 AM
I don't understand with all the technology involved, that there isn't a way to pinpoint EXACTLY, down to the foot, where this thing hit the water.
3/10/2014 2:31:50 PM
IF it hit the water.Seriously though, first thing I thought about when I heard this was LOST. I then laughed, and then felt mildly ashamed for doing so.
3/10/2014 2:34:07 PM
The flight probably did not have ADS-B...Few planes do, as of right now. Definitely not many non- U.S. Flights
