I couldn't deal with it, so I became a teacher.

It would be nice to be on a year-round school type schedule as an adult. But 3 months off would get boring, I think, unless you have the money to travel the whole time.

I never understood this. I worked pretty much every summer from 16 on. School being out only meant I could pick up more shifts and pocket more cash.Summer's were awesome because it meant no homework and money to spend. Once college was over and I got a job, that's just every day.

I deal with not having a summer vacation by being an adult with a job.

I'm in grad school, so I still experience summer vacations...it's pretty nice, actuallyin fact, one of the main reasons I went to grad school is that I'm a pretty unmaterialistic person. I'd rather be poor but happy and living my own life, than well-off but spending 35%-50% of my waking hours working at a task that I hate, and just looking at the clock every minutes. But I just got a postdoctoral position last week...I'm not sure how that's going to work out. I'll have 2.5-3x the money I've ever had before, but I'll also be working way more. Also, bizarre, eccentric behavior will not be tolerated as it would be if I were a student. I'm fucking scared but also excited and elated ]

I teach, so I get summer vacation (it would be from May to August, but I teach a class for summer school 2x a week for 5 weeks), spring break, thanksgiving break, and about six weeks off for winter break.I also don't teach on Fridays and my earliest class is at 11:30.

I've worked long enough at my job that I get 6 weeks of vacation plus our normal holidays. We usually take one 2-week vacation during the year, and that is my summer break. I take 2 weeks off at christmas also usually for a winter break.

I haven't had a "summer off" since... well my freshman year in high school. I've always had some sort of summer job, but as a teacher I will say that a change of pace is a huge refresher, even if you are working a different job for 2 months.

I don't do anything at work, so every day is like summer vacation

I'm kinda curious. What job did you work when you were 16? Dry cleaner or car wash?

Started as a dishwasher at a bar in North Raleigh, was line cook, server and expo by 17.I actually had a job at 14 at a tux rental shop but quit out of boredom before I got paid. Here's a brief resume of my titles14(Tuxedo Rentals)16DishwasherFry Cook/Cold PrepGrill/FlatopExpo17Server18PhotographerTuxedo Rental/SalesWood shop AttendantPhoto Editor19Managing EditorWriterDesigner (page production)20Event space ServerPhoto InternServer21BarbackBartender22CourierReprographics23Marketing Coordiator26Dad28Freelance PhotographerCommunity Organizer (kinda)[Edited on March 8, 2014 at 12:06 AM.
